The Prophet Project (online)

Still Small Theatre presents The Prophet Project, a play about the timeless story of God’s love for the world, told through the timely words of the ancient Hebrew prophets.

On September 18th, join a virtual watch party of the show (filmed summer 2019) and live Q&A with some of the artists involved! The event will be held on YouTube Live, and the show will be available streaming on YouTube until October 3rd.

Inspired by the Biblical story of the prophet Hosea and his wife Gomer, The Prophet Project weaves together the words of the Biblical prophets along with movement, music, and more  to tell the story of God’s enduring love for Israel, and for all of humanity. Due to some of the mature themes of Scripture, The Prophet Project is not recommended for young children. But for adults, teens, and mature middle schoolers, it is a thought-provoking reflection and conversation starter on the themes of sin, idolatry, injustice, redemption, and how Christians can continue to reveal the heart of God to a broken world.

This watch party kicks off Still Small’s new Virtual Performance Packages, which allow churches to book an entirely virtual event — complete with play, Q&A with cast, and 6-part video Bible study series! Packages become available November 1.

Sing gospel with Mystic Chorale this winter!

Experience the power of singing gospel music with more than 250 others as part of the Arlington-based Mystic Chorale, led by award-winning director and composer, Jonathan Singleton.  Mystic Chorale is a non-audition, non-profit, volunteer-run community chorus. The ability to read music, while helpful, is not required.  Its motto is, “We welcome all who love to sing!”

This season the chorus will sing a diverse mix of spirituals, traditional and contemporary gospel, all united by themes of love and hope. The concert program will feature gospel classics like Dottie Peoples’ He’s an On-Time God; Rain on Us by John P. Kee; Marvelous; as well as Mystic Gospel favorites Holy Ground and Swing Low Sweet Chariot!

Mystic will be joined by fabulous guest artist Athene Wilson, an award-winning jazz, gospel and R&B vocalist whose singing career began at the tender age of seven in a small Pentecostal church in Jamaica. Athene has toured nationally and internationally to great acclaim and has accompanied Patti LaBelle, Natalie Cole, Smokey Robinson and James Taylor as a background singer.

8 weeks of rehearsals begin on Tuesday, January 7, 2019 7:30-9:30pm at First Parish Unitarian, 630 Mass Ave., Arlington Center.  Concert weekend is Saturday, February 29th and Sunday, March 31 at Converse Hall at Tremont Temple in Boston.
