An Evening with Ellen

It’s an evening out with your friends. A time to relax and unwind. A time to connect with other women. A time to sing and worship God. A time to soak in some good teaching.

Whatever walk of life you’re in right now, we have something really good for you.

Please join us for this very special night with Ellen Garland, where she will be sharing about +ONE Leadership: Leading Better Together.

Ellen is the keynote speaker at our annual Leadership Retreat from April 21-23, 2023. We would love to have you join us! But we realize that not everyone can get away for the whole weekend, so we’re offering this special event on Saturday night that is open to everyone, even if you’re not attending the retreat.

If you are attending the retreat, then there is no need to register for this one! The special event with Ellen is included in your retreat registration.

Our night together will also include light refreshments, fun activities to help us connect, meaningful worship, and an opportunity to help a good cause:

Baby Goods Wanted! Clearway Clinic is seeking new, unused, gender-neutral baby items.

by design Women’s Leadership Retreat

There are few things as exciting as an event that calls for a + ONE. Your expectations have been set. THIS will be an opportunity (and you can share it with someone!). On the flip side, anxiousness can accompany that also.

So it is with leadership. Your expectations were set, and now you’re living it. Some days you enthusiastically serve. You keep your passion for Jesus boiling hot. Some days you radiate with the glow of the Holy Spirit.

Other days … there are stress fractures, and you’re dragging your exhausted tail to just muster enough love to give that one person a hug.

In both moments, we need to invite a + ONE into our eventful day. Yes, because every day is just that, an event.

It’s a given … we need JESUS. But maybe there’s another (someone with skin on them) whom you should invite to keep your equilibrium, clarity, and fervor. We are not called to be independent, but to be interdependent. Let’s be inspired to see that + ONE who is willing to hold space with us as we lead.

Let’s learn TOGETHER, to see our blind spots, to recognize our need to receive from others, and to identify when we can be that + ONE for someone else, to ripple support and encouragement on another.

We will view dynamic Biblical pairs who found leading was better together.

When: Friday, April 21 at 7:00 PM through Sunday, April 23 at 12:00 PM (Please note that all retreat times are in EST.)

Where: Immanuel Church | 301 Boston Rd. Chelmsford, MA 01824

Who: All women who are actively serving in their churches or organizations; especially those women who minister to other women.

What: Three general sessions with Ellen Garland, six afternoon break-out sessions pertinent to life and ministry; free time to enjoy and meet new women, plus much more!

The retreat will take place at the La Quinta in Andover, MA. This will be a time to connect with sisters who have a heartbeat for Christ; it will be a time of encouragement and enrichment.

Our time together will feature a variety of elements. Here are some highlights:

  • Meaningful and inspirational worship
  • Special guest speaker Ellen Garland will be speaking twice on Saturday and at Sunday’s general session.
  • We will also be having a special evening event with Ellen on Saturday that will be open to all women, even those not attending the retreat!
  • A relaxed time of fun to connect with old and new friends
  • Personal quiet time and prayer
  • Ministry-relevant breakout sessions

Love Listens – Boston

LOVE LISTENS – CHURCH LEADER’S WORKSHOP is designed specifically for pastors and church leaders. This gathering features a series of interactive, future-minded conversations to help leaders re-envision evangelism in their context—including recent research on church, culture, digital, next-generation, and more.

Love Listens is a space to come together, to stop, listen, and assess how God is moving in our cities and communities.  Join in round-table conversations, hear from local pastors, and engage in curated discussions facilitated by Alpha USA’s Pastor Todd Proctor. Listening is at the core of effective evangelism, and it’s more important now than ever. The conversations are not Alpha specific so any leader can join the conversation.

We would love for you and and your leadership teams to take part in this day of unity, discovery and dialogue.

Leading Boldly in the Midst of a Community in Crisis

Join us for Vision New England’s Women in Christian Leadership “Leading Well” forum, featuring Rev. Gloria White-Hammond, entitled “Leading Boldly in the Midst of a Community in Crisis.”

Historians often discuss watershed moments—critical turning points in history that fundamentally change how people think about and do life. The past 1 ½ years has been a quintessential watershed moment in which many communities have experienced multiple painful crises simultaneously. Just as God raised up and equipped Esther to respond to the crisis in her day, God is calling today’s Christian women leaders to step up with conviction, step out on faith and step forward with courage.

Rev. Gloria White-Hammond, M.D. is co-pastor of Bethel AME Church in Boston and a pediatrician who long practiced at the South End Community Health Center. She also co-directs the Harvard Medical School and Harvard Divinity School course, “Medicine and Spirituality in Healing.” Rev. Gloria is a longtime champion of health equity and publicly speaks about COVID-19 vaccination as a pastor and a physician, especially in communities of color. Rev. Gloria’s innovative ministries include Do The Write Thing, a creative writing mentoring ministry for high-risk adolescent girls; My Sister’s Keeper,  www.mskeeper.org , a humanitarian and human rights organization that champions social justice for women and girls in conflict zones; and Shatter the Silence, a ministry that addresses sexual victimization in communities of faith.
