Locked in Solidarity 2026

Highrock Beyond Bars invites you to gather with and on behalf of those affected by incarceration to encourage practitioners, engage with stories of change, and be equipped in the pursuit of justice, redemption, and restoration.

This year’s conference highlights the “work behind the walls” at MCI Shirley and the challenges of reentry.  The conference will feature leaders with both personal lived experience and long-time experience working directly with returning citizens and people who are currently incarcerated. We’ll be hearing from:

  1. TJ Weaver (Chaplain at Massachusetts Correctional Institute – Shirley)
  2. Leslie Credle (Justice 4 Housing)
  3. Berk Fharra (Boston Recovery Foundation)
  4. Adam Liccardi (Founder of Bedlink)
  5. Citizens overcoming the challenges of reentry
  6. Men from behind the wall at MCI-Shirley

There is no charge for this event.  Snacks and complimentary lunch provided.

Sunday, September 21, 2025, 2-4pm ET

Eliot Church of Newton UCC

474 Centre Street, Newton, MA 02458

“In a time of turbulence, tumult, and uncertainty, it is critical for everyone to take concrete action to mobilize for peace.” We have planned and organized the Boston area celebration of the United Nations International Day of Peace each year since 2010. This year’s theme is “Act Now for a Peaceful World.” We invite you to a program of Music, Arts, & Peace Education led by emcee Dawn Duncan (Massachusetts Center for Native American Awareness), including brief presentations by peacemakers such as Ron Bell (Dunk the Vote), Zakiya Alake (Fair Housing and Equity), and Alda Witherspoon (Witherspoon Institute) regarding their work, with artistic performances by Cellist Miranda Henne, Singer Lina Marcela Sarmiento Tellez, and Spoken Word Poet Zenaida Peterson. It will conclude with a reading of the list of recent local victims of violence.

Tremont Temple Balcony Restoration Project – Volunteer Day

Tremont Temple Baptist Church is a historically influential church in the heart of downtown Boston. With a seating capacity of 1752, the main sanctuary is one of the largest Christian worship spaces in Boston.  Unfortunately, the upper balcony is largely unused because nearly 800 seats are in poor condition and need to be reupholstered.  A team of us are coordinating a major restoration project that will employ formerly incarcerated individuals to do the bulk of the work.

We are sponsoring a volunteer day on July 19 to clean the iron frames of the seats.

We are also looking for financial sponsors to help fund the project. Every gift of $250 or above will be recognized with a name plate attached to a seat as was done in 1896!

Book Talk: You Only Get What You’re Organized to Take: Lessons From the Movement to End Poverty

Hello UniteBoston friends and colleagues,

Devlin and I are excited to invite you to a special gathering of leaders as part of the National Book Tour Stop in Massachusetts for the new release:
You Only Get What You’re Organized to Take: Lessons from the Movement to End Poverty
by Rev. Dr. Liz Theoharis and Noam Sandweiss-Back of the Kairos Center

Click here to watch the promo video
???? Learn more about the book

This is more than a book tour—it’s an interfaith movement that aims to strengthen community-led movements for housing, food, wages, water, land, immigrant rights, peace, belonging, and more.

Jesus said that he came to set the oppressed free (Lk 4:18) – As Christian leaders, we are called to be part of this moral and spiritual awakening—to organize from the ground up, led by those most impacted, and loving the ‘least of these’ (Mt 25:40) as rooted in the prophetic call for economic justice and human dignity.

We believe this is a kairos moment—a Spirit-led opportunity to build relationships, deepen shared commitments, and explore how the Christian community, alongside our interfaith partners, can actively support and lead in this movement for justice and survival.

In hope and solidarity,

-Rev. Kelly & Rev. Devlin
