RCCI Summer Social & Open House

Do you desire to see racial justice in Greater Boston? Would you like to be part of a community that’s nurturing shalom across racial lines? As the Race and Christian Community Inititiative at the Emmanuel Gospel Center enters a new season, we’re excited to share about where we feel the Lord is leading us and invite folks to speak into next steps at our Summer Social & Open House.

Join us for a barbeque, lawn games, & an opportunity to…

– Connect with Christians who care about racial justice.

– Hear about and speak into RCCI’s vision, ministry shifts, and hopes for our future

– Get clarity on how people of all races can connect with RCCI to participate in God’s redemptive work across racial lines in Greater Boston

As a part of this, we’ll be sharing about concrete ways to connect to God’s redemptive work and inviting you to shape and connect with our shalom-building communities.

Here’s a highlight of our developing programs you can learn about and speak into:
– Our impactful learning communities for white evangelicals

– A multiracial collective action group that supports BIPOC-led, equity-building initiatives and offers extra support and accountability for white evangelicals’ action-taking

– An experiential learning weekend exploring the history of slavery in Boston and a subsequent southern civil rights pilgrimage, both led by a multiracial team and open to all Christians.

Our event is MBTA accessible, ADA accessible, and has indoor nursery access for caregivers of young children.

RCCI focuses on equipping White evangelicals to nurture shalom between individuals, communities, and systems damaged by racism. That said, it is critical that people of all races work together toward racial healing and justice – with BIPOC folks in the lead. Come to hear about exciting program and partnership opportunities for people of all races to continue Christ’s redemptive work across racial lines.

2023 EGC Fundraiser and Virtual Concert!

You are invited to an evening of community connection, storytelling, and celebration! The Emmanuel Gospel Center’s annual fundraiser and virtual concert happens on May 28th, at 7 pm. In addition to the virtual premiere, EGC is hosting a free in-person watch party at Kowloon Restaurant in Saugus, where you can eat great food and watch this event on the big screen!

The theme for this year’s event is Renewal, based on 2 Corinthians 5:17 which says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” Together with you, EGC is holding fast to this truth and we are hopeful for God’s renewal and restoration in Boston.

You can register to join us at the watch party by clicking here or you can register to attend the virtual premiere by clicking here. Either way, we look forward to watching with you on May 28th!

Academic Mentors Recruitment

The Boston Education Collaborative at Emmanuel Gospel Center is recruiting another round of volunteers to help schools and afterschool programs this school year. If people thought last school year was challenging, this school year has been even more difficult for schools and programs. A recurring theme is the fatigue of staff and parents and the loss/regression of social emotional skills of students.

What if the Church steps into this need and opportunity to bring Christ’s love and comfort to these school communities and programs? Our volunteers provide a source of encouragement to the staff and students in addition to academic mentoring help. And the impact goes both ways. While volunteers seek to be helpful, they also experience change in themselves.
Minimum requirement to volunteer is 1-2 hours/week. There are several in-person volunteer requests, but there are also some remote opportunities. See tiny.cc/BECtutors for more information. We could use volunteers to help in Boston, Cambridge, Chelsea and Brockton.
Please contact Ruth Wong, rwong[at]egc.org, for more information. If your church would like to be involved in mobilizing volunteers, we would love to speak with you.
