Freedom Songs: A Multicultural Musical Journey

As the world reels from the pandemic, untold numbers of people are also marking spring holy days, seeking liberation and renewal. Join us for an evening of Freedom Songs from Jewish, Christian, and Muslim traditions, as well as the “American Songbook.” Together we will raise our voices in lament, yearning, and hope.

Featured artists and presenters include: Rabbi Jeffrey Summit, Dr. Celene Ibrahim, Rev. Teddy Hickman-Maynard, Abubakr Fakhry, the pop trio BETTY, and others.

Mystic Chorale – Raise the Praise!

Mystic Chorale sings GOSPEL 2/29 &3/1!

The Mystic Chorale, one of Greater Boston’s favorite community choruses, continues its 30th anniversary celebration with MYSTIC GOSPEL: RAISE THE PRAISE! The 200-voice chorus led by director Jonathan Singleton presents two joyful and spirit-filled gospel concerts, performed in a variety of musical styles all united by themes of love and hope.

The exciting and varied program includes the contemporary classic, John P. Kee’s Rain on Us, traditional favorites He’s an on time God and I’ll fly away, Gloria Gaynor’s R&B influenced, He Won’t let Go, the James Taylor Classic, Shower the People and the moving spirituals This Train is Bound for Glory  Mystic favorite, Swing Low Sweet Chariot!

This year’s Mystic Gospel concert will feature award-winning gospel, jazz and R&B vocialist Athene Wilson. Athene is a well-known and much sought after choral singer, lead vocalist and recording session artist in the Boston area and in addition has toured nationally and internationally. She has used her great talent to accompany many visiting national and international artists including such greats as Patti LaBelle, Natalie Cole, Smokey Robinson and James Taylor!

Be sure to get your tickets early for an exciting, inspiring, uplifting weekend of concerts guaranteed to have you clapping in your seats and dancing in the aisles as we Raise the Praise!

Respect: A Boston Arts Academy Tribute to Aretha Franklin

You don’t want to miss Boston Arts Academy students paying tribute to Aretha Franklin—twice named “the greatest singer of all time” by Rolling Stone.

This entertaining production showcases the best of all the Boston Arts Academy’s departments’ artistic work through an interdisciplinary collaboration. This year, BAA is partnering with Roxbury Community College to put on the production at their Media Arts Center.

Boston Arts Academy vocalists, instrumentalists, dancers, actors, filmmakers, fashion designers, and visual artists will celebrate Aretha Franklin’s impact on R&B and Gospel music as well as her social activism. Come see how BAA students interpret this 20th century cultural icon.

Open to anyone in the community, tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors.

Prior to the Friday evening performance, the BAA Champion Award will be presented to Former First Lady of Massachusetts Diane Patrick at a reception. Tickets are $100.

Christmas Concert: Eastern & Western Carols & Hymns

St. Mary’s Orthodox Church, 8 Inman St, Central Square, Cambridge, MA will be hosting a concert of Christmas Carols and hymns from the Eastern and Western Christian traditions on Sunday, December 8 at 4:00pm.  Joining St. Mary’s Parish Choir and the Boston Byzantine Choir will be the Arabic Choir of the Theotokos from St. Mary’s Pawtucket, RI and the St. Romanos the Melodist Byzantine Choir from Hellenic College/Holy Cross Seminary in Brookline, MA. The concert will conclude with a traditional Western Christmas Carol Singalong accompanied by strings from the Boston Civic Symphony.
