Leap of Joy: Massachusetts Council of Churches Annual Meeting

On Wednesday June 25, 2025 beginning at 6:00pm also at the Maliotis Cultural Center at 50 Goddard Ave in Brookline,  you are invited to our Great Day of Joining, Celebration of Ministry and Annual Meeting under the banner “LEAP for JOY.”

Beginning at 6pm, we will have heavy appetizers for a time of fellowship, and celebration of ministry.

New Campus in Wakefield for Grace Prep Boston

We are excited to announce that Grace Preparatory Academy of Greater Boston will be opening a second campus in Wakefield, MA this September 2025!

Administrative Assistant

Overview

Ideal for college student, retired person or stay-at-home mom. The Administrative Assistant enhances the team’s effectiveness by supporting bookkeeping, scheduling, record keeping and performing other clerical tasks.

The Seymour Institute’s Mission

The long-term objective of the Seymour Institute is to create and institutionalize a conceptual framework for a pro-poor, pro-family, pro-life movement within the ecumenical Black Church. One central aspect of this work is mobilizing the black church to work on urgent social justice issues, such as education and violence reduction.

Responsibilities:

  • Scan receipts and other documents into electronic format and store in a secure database system.
  • Organize and maintain physical files, documents, and other records in accordance with established procedures.
  • Liaise electronically with scheduler to remind employers of priority tasks and deadlines.
  • Apprise executives of upcoming commitments and resolve scheduling and other issues.
  • ​​ Process payments, letters and packages for mailing and dispatch outgoing mail.
  • Make bank deposits and withdrawals and maintain documentation.
  • Update various online spreadsheets regarding receipts, deposits and attendance.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Some college education required
  • Strong teamwork skills
  • Organizational skills
  • Microsoft Office skills
  • Experience in administration preferred.

Hours:

  • 6-10 hours per week.
  • Flexible schedule BUT AT LEAST 3 HOURS WEEKLY DURING BUSINESS HOURS
  • IN-PERSON POSITION. Work remotely occasionally.

Location: Dorchester, MA

Pay Scale:

  • $20-$25 per hour

Kelly’s Corner: A Day in the Life

What does a “typical” day at UB look like? Well, no two days are ever quite the same! But I’d love to take you through one particularly unique day last week—one that was especially full of meaningful conversations and Spirit-led moments.

5:30am – Coffee with Jesus. I’m an early riser, waking up before the sun most days to pray, reflect and read the news before the hustle and bustle of the day begins. 

6:57am – Cross country ski in Franklin Park. I start most days with exercise, as I find that when my body moves, then I can think much more clearly. Contemplating God’s word for today with the “Pray as you Go” devotional and the Holy Post podcast. Jamming out to the song “Kingdom of Jesus” which has been hitting me deep these days: “He’s chosen the small things to outlast the great, the meek and the merciful to shine through the hate… Oh say can’t you see we have one allegiance? It’s to the Kingdom of Jesus.”

10:34am – Coffee and pastries with Rev. Arrington Chamblis at Homestead Bakery. So meaningful to hear about her own personal journey meeting Jesus and following in his footsteps, now at Episcopal City Mission. One thing she shared that I’m holding onto is that, “Personal and social transformation must go hand in hand—without a change of heart, nothing will truly change.”

12:17pm – Lunch with Liza Cagua-Koo at Fresh Food Generation. Liza has a deep understanding of systems practice. Her perspective on bringing people from diverse backgrounds together to collaborate and drive meaningful change is so inspiring to me and crucial to UniteBoston’s ministry.

2:35pm – Meeting with Jerome Garciano from Highrock Church, where we brainstormed and schemed about a collective call to moral leadership. Our hope is to invite Christians from across the political spectrum to reconfirm ourselves and call our leaders to a higher standard—one that reflects the hope, faith, and love at the heart of the Gospel.

Lots of administrative work in the afternoon, including planning an upcoming cohort case study and ordering supplies for a UniteBoston gathering, followed by dinner with my family!

 I crashed early this night, and then woke up the next morning to coffee with Jesus again… the slow, rooted, connecting work of UniteBoston continues. 

Move slow enough to notice
Wherever God shows up today,
may I not be too hurried to notice,
nor too aloof to care.
When the Sacred surprises me
like an unexpected guest,
may I not hesitate to greet Them with open arms.
Let not my bias be a barrier,
to embracing The Holy’s mysterious ways.
May I be hospitable to God enfleshed
in even the dullest circumstances,
and the hardest situations,
and the strangest of places.
I am open
to encountering Love,
to meeting with Justice,
to being held by Awe.
May it be so.

“When We Walk By” Book Club

Join us in reading “When We Walk By” by Kevin F. Adler and Donald Burnes and receive a free copy of the book!

Beginning on February 25th until April 1st, we will gather together on Tuesday evenings from 7-8:30pm via Zoom to engage in thought-provoking discussion around Kevin F. Adler and Donald Burnes’ text “When We Walk By: Forgotten Humanity, Broken Systems, and the Role We Can Each Play in Ending Homelessness in America”.

 
This opportunity will inspire us as a community to look further into the issue of homelessness, with the hope of moving us to meaningful action to better care for our neighbors – both near and far.
