Single Release Concert & Poetry Night at Charles Street AME

Greetings,

I am writing to invite you to a Single Release Concert and Poetry Night at Charles Street AME in Dorchester on June 14th at 7 pm.

I have been in the United Kingdom for the past 4 years at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland where I recently completed my PhD program.

My PhD graduation is on July 10th back in the UK which I will be attending. However, I don’t want to go alone.  I want to return with my family (four of us). Unfortunately, I don’t have the funds to purchase four flight tickets and pay for  hotel accommodation for the brief time in the UK.  So, I decided to release a single I have been working on at a concert and poetry night. Attached is the flyer.

I will also be singing from my previous two gospel albums, reading from my upcoming book on Poetic Expressions as well as commenting on social and penal issues from my book: Locked Up and Locked Down: Multitude Lingers in Limbo Revised Edition. Below is the Eventbrite link for more details. Thanks for your support.

Abiding in the Community: A Faith Based Response to a Neighborhood in Pain

Abiding in the Community: A Faith Based Response to a Neighborhood in Pain is a conference day on Saturday 11/3/18 to highlight community ‘healing-centered’ support that strives to address the chronic individual and collective impact of trauma. Whether from  community violence, racism, structural oppression, poverty, addiction, or various forms of interpersonal abuse, trauma is at the core of a steadily eroding rupture of an individual’s sense of safety, meaning in the world, connection to self and others, and personal agency.

This day is for all people interested in trauma healing and will offer:

-a profound way of accompanying and remaining with individuals and communities who have experienced trauma and traumatic grief

-an uncomplicated framework for educating people about trauma and the healing journey

-an experience of Can We Talk – a program component that offers adults the opportunity to share their stories of trauma, loss, hope, and healing; fostering connection and empowering individuals to take an active role in helping themselves and others heal.

The Cory Johnson Program for Post-Traumatic Healing, led by Rev. Liz Walker with her team at Roxbury Presbyterian Church in Roxbury, MA, has been providing community trauma healing services for 4 years. Each week people are invited, without cost or need for referral and with child care and a meal provided, to attend program components that address the mind, body, and spiritual impacts of trauma. This day is so fortunate to be co-sponsored by the New England regional office of the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS New England). They are interested in helping The Cory Johnson Program connect with people in New England and across the country who would like to learn more about this model.

This event is being offered for free due to generous funding! Here is the website for the conference and to register.

Elevation Conference

The 2018 Elevation Conference presented by the HTC Youth and Young Adult Ministry is coming!! Featuring Woody Vereen, Eshon Burgundy, John Matthew Borders IV, Royce Lovett, Brinson Wright, Beleaf Melanin, and many more.

Theme: The Good Life
The Christian life has always been falsely perceived as a one that will be free from trial and tribulation. The Bible does not promise this however it does prepare us and equip us to deal with those challenges we will face. This conference endeavors to prepare young and old to deal with those challenges. At the same time we will discover what the Bible does tell us about living “The Good Life” before the unsaved so that our works will glorify God when he comes.
Key Scriptures: 1 Peter 2:12, Matt 5:16

Full Registration for the Conference is only $59.99! Includes Worship Service, Concert, all workshops, entrance into The Plug, Conf Tshirt and food! Early Bird Registration is only $49.99 for a limited time.

Dates: May 25th – May 27th 2018
Friday 5/25 : Elevation Worship Service 7:00pm
Saturday 5/26 : Elevation Workshop Series & Block Party
Sunday 5/28 Workshops, The Plug & Finale Concert

Introducing the Plug! The Plug is a live A&R series where artists can play their music live for a panel of industry and Radio personalities for an opportunity to get feedback on your music or potentially get your song placed on radio!

Helping That Helps: Tips for Ministry in Urban Settings

Our good friends at the Emmanuel Gospel Center just published an article entitled “Helping that Helps,” which describes some principles to keep in mind when we work towards building God’s kingdom.

We know that counterproductivity is often an issue in urban ministry, and even well-intentioned helping can hurt. Read the article below for some practical ideas on how to apply Living System ministry in our homes, churches, and communities!
