Creatio ex Amore and the Mission of the Church Now

The St. Paul Center for Theology and Prayer announces an upcoming special event:

Creatio ex Amore and the Mission of the Church Now –  An online seminar with Bishop Dr. Heinrich Bedford-Strohm, Moderator of the World Council of Churches.

In this time of climate crisis, what difference does our faith make? How does our understanding of God, and the meaning of God’s creating work, ground and equip us to pray, serve, and act in this time? This seminar will deepen our capacity to preach and teach our claim that “God creates out of love,” and enliven us for working with our faith communities for God’s purposes.

Registrants may choose to explore advance readings, given below. They will also be invited to a follow-up conversation (on Saturday 25th January, 9-11am ET) hosted by the Rev. Dr. Kapya Kaoma, Rector of Christ Church, Waltham, author and theologian, expanding our grounding in this topic with wisdom from African Christian theology of creation.

This is an online only event, which will be hosted on Zoom. Full details, and the link to sign up to attend, can be found here: https://www.stpaulboston.org/bedford-strohm-event

Esther: For Such a Time as This

Join us this December for “Esther: For Such a Time as This”.
We are thrilled to invite you to a powerful and inspiring musical this December—Esther: For Such a Time as This, at the Groton Dunstable Performing Arts Center in Groton, MA.
This moving adaptation of the biblical story of Esther is more than just a tale of royalty and intrigue. It presents the deeper message of God’s providence in His plan of redemption. Though God’s name is not explicitly mentioned in the Book of Esther, His hand is present in every detail—bringing the hidden to light and delivering His people from destruction.

The Byzantine Choral Inheritance by Cappella Romana

Made possible by generous support from The Saint John of Damascus Society and a grant from Cambridge Arts, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency, and The Saint John of Damascus Society at First Church in Cambridge, Cambridge MA

Vocal Ensemble Cappella Romana presents THE BYZANTINE CHORAL INHERITANCE with rarely heard music from the historic traditions of Byzantium and new works inspired by them.

Music Director Dr. Alexander Lingas will lead the first half of the program. The concert will begin with works in Greek from medieval Constantinople, followed by liturgical works by twentieth-century Greek American composers such as Tikey Zes, Theodore Bogdanos, and Frank Desby.

The second half, led by Associate Music Director John Michael Boyer, will feature the East Coast premiere of Heaven and Earth: A Song of Creation, a setting of Psalm 103. Commissioned by the Saint John of Damascus Society to celebrate the discovery of the Higgs boson, six composers: Tikey Zes, +Richard Toensing, GRAMMY-nominee Kurt Sander, Alexander Khalil, John Michael Boyer, and Matthew Arndt, each set a portion of the Psalm, creating a seamless tapestry.
