Social Justice Internships
As one of the oldest social justice organizations in the United States, we take seriously our role to teach the next generation about this important work. Beginning in 2015, City Mission has offered a Social Justice internship program for high school students who are rising into their junior or senior year, or those who have just graduated from high school.
This internship is for youth committed to social justice and with an interest in gaining work experience in a small nonprofit that works on social justice issues, particularly around homelessness prevention. Interns will begin to explore some of the root causes and consequences of poverty, inequality, and racism through an introduction to public policy research, service-learning, communications, and overarching nonprofit organizational structure. The program includes learning activities to foster a deeper understanding of social justice and City Mission’s commitment to educate, empower and engage our community.
The social justice internship program is five weeks long beginning Tuesday, July 11, 2017, and concluding Tuesday, August 15, 2017. Each intern will work 10 hours a week each week (5 hours on Tuesday, 5 hours on another day of the week to be arranged with their schedule), and will be paid a stipend of $150 per week. This program is pending funding.
