Cambridgeport Baptist Church http://cambridgeportbaptist.org in Cambridge MA is seeking a part-time Youth Pastor for grades 6 – 12. Our church currently has a small but steady program for teenagers. We are praying for a committed, enthusiastic person to engage our teenagers (and their friends!) in quality social time, discipleship, Bible study, social justice opportunities, and more, depending on the interests and passions of the right person.
Qualifications
The youth pastor must have a passion for Jesus, a love for teenagers, and a heart to see them grow in relationship with Christ. We hope to find someone who demonstrates:● Teaching skills and a love for God’s word
● Joyful spirit and good sense of humor
● Ability to initiate and work without direct supervision
● Qualities for good church leaders as described in 1 Timothy 3, Titus 1, and 1 Peter 5
● Agreement with CBC’s doctrine, vision, values, and beliefs
● Strong preference for a team approach including other staff, parents, and volunteers
● A call to youth ministry, with seminary training and leadership experience
● An understanding of the unique needs of teenagers in today’s culture
● Interest and/or participation in sports and recreation (a serious plus)
Responsibilities
● Pray for our teenagers and their families● Spend time getting to know the youth
● Choose or create curriculum for weekly Bible instruction
● Lead Bible study
● Recruit qualified volunteer assistants, and coordinate teaching opportunities
● Coordinate Friday night social events and other opportunities for fellowship apart from Sunday morning
● Organize yearly trip to Youth Encountering Christ, or YEC, a January weekend conference (through Baptist Convention of New England)
● Organize yearly trip to Crosswalk (through BCNE), a weeklong camp in July
● Plan and oversee fundraisers as needed
● Participate in staff meetings
● Other discipleship, mentorship, service, and fellowship programs that fit the hourly availability of the Youth Pastor and meet the needs and interests of the youth
