Hi Unite community!! I’m moving to my first home in West Roxbury this summer and seek two roommates who share a similar vision for what they want for their home. Read on!!
Vision for the home:
I love being in community and using my home as a gathering place, and I’m really excited to finally have a home that is well equipped to help me do that. I look forward to getting to know my neighbors, having semi-regular gatherings (think neighborhood group, or movie or game nights, or brunches) and parties, and being able to host friends and family overnight– and without kicking people to the couch. I’m hoping to find roommates who are excited about exercising hospitality in their home and who feel comfortable and encouraged to have friends and guests over. I also hope we can together embrace our home as a place of both fun and rest. I hope that the home is seen as more than just a place to sleep when you’re not working; I really want to know my roommates! I look forward to having good communication, encouraging one another, sharing a movie or bottle of wine, eating together on a somewhat predictable basis–however we define that.
What else about me?
Well, people and food summarizes a lot about me! I love to cook, bake, travel, talk about deep things, read, spend time outside, ski, sing — and in this new house, I hope to add “garden” to the list. I am a moderate extrovert (I do like alone time), am in my early 30s, generally work 9-5 (at BU in student services), love adventures and fun events, but love being home, too. I’m making this move from across the river in Cambridge and am excited to explore a new part of the Boston area! I’ve planted roots in Boston and at Church of the Cross, but previously I’ve called Chicagoland, Virginia, and Prague “home”.
If this sounds good so far, keep reading about the house:
4 bedroom, 2 full bath single-family house in West Roxbury (Boston). Three of the bedrooms will be occupied (me + two roommates) and one will be a guest room. The house is a late-19th century colonial that has lots of charm and is really inviting. In addition to a large living room and formal dining space, there is a recently-renovated country-style kitchen that is perfect for cooking up a feast. The house has an enclosed porch on the front of the house, backyard with patio, and a half-finished basement that has a family room, the second full bath, and laundry. There is spacious storage in the walk-up attic and some in basement as well. There is ample street parking, as well as tandem off-street parking in the driveway, which we could try to figure out. You can park your bike in the shed at the top of the drive!
For transportation, there are four options: 1) the house is off of Lagrange St between Centre and VFW Parkway, making a quick escape by car to JP, Roslindale, Dedham, Newton, Brookline, or the city center really easy. 2) The 37 bus stop is on the same block as the house, and the bus goes to Roslindale Village and Forest Hills station. 3) The West Roxbury commuter rail station (Needham line) is 0.6 miles from the house and can take you to Ruggles, Back Bay, South Station, etc. 4) Bike!
The house is also 0.7 miles to the YMCA, the local library branch, and an ice cream shop. All that central West Roxbury has to offer is only 0.1 miles beyond that. Roche Bros and Star Market groceries are accessible, and it’s only a 10 minute drive to Wegman’s. Green space abounds nearby, including popular Millennium Park.
The house should be mostly furnished in shared spaces by time of move-in (though it may take a little bit of time to fully acquire everything!), but bedrooms will be unfurnished.
More info for you:
-A mid-July or August 1 roommate move-in is most ideal, but reach out anyway if you’re on a different timeline!
-My parents plan to visit several times a year, and they likely will bring their golden retriever. I hope you are pet-friendly and have good allergy meds if needed!
-I can share more specs and rent info once we’re connected to give more context, but rent will probably be in the $800-900ish range, including water but not other utilities.
-I can share photos once we’re connected!I’m excited about all the possibilities in this house and look forward to hearing from you!
JanelGuestHi there!
I would be interested in meeting up to learn more about you and your vision for the house! I am not sure what the next few months hold for me, but would love to explore this opportunity a bit more. Cultivating community, especially through food, is a big part of who I am as well! Let me know if you’d like to meet up for coffee sometime.
Thanks,
JanelSallyGuestHi Jane!
I’m so sorry for not replying until now — I actually thought the Unite Boston website would notify me when someone had replied. In any case, I’d love to hear more about you, what you’re waiting on these next few months (it sounds like it’s a transition point?), etc.And I’d love to get coffee — great suggestion! — and share more about the house (happy to share pics!).
How about you reach back out via my email (jackson.sally.e@gmail.com) and we’ll take it from there.
Thanks so much, Jane!
Sally
DanicaGuestHi Sally!
I was wondering if you have already found housemates, or if you are still looking?I am a 25 year old, 2014 college graduate, and will be attending Northeastern University School of Law in the fall. I am looking for housing that’s a convenient commute to campus. Your vision for this home sounds amazing and I would love the chance to talk with you further is there is still availability.
Thanks so much – Looking forward to hearing from you!
Peace and Blessings –
