HUD 101: Federal Housing Policy, The New Administration, and what we can do in Boston.

With a new administration in Washington, and the likely confirmation of Dr. Ben Carson as the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, we anticipate there will be changes to the federal government’s work for affordable housing and to end homelessness. Join City Mission as we explore the role HUD has in tackling these issues, how the new administration might affect local progress on homelessness and affordable housing, and what we can do right here in Massachusetts to ensure that everyone has a safe and affordable place to call home.

Speakers include:

Mehreen Butt, Director of Public Policy, Rosie’s Place

Michael Kane, Executive Director, MA Alliance of HUD Tenants

Eric Shupin, Director of Public Policy, Citizens’ Housing and Planning Association

Lynda Watson, Director of Homelessness Prevention, City Mission Boston

HUD 101 will include a brief overview of the role that the department plays in providing affordable housing to Massachusetts families, how that role has developed and might continue to change with the coming administration, and opportunities to get more involved.
