    OUTREACH COORDINATOR

    The Opportunity
Trinity Church in the City of Boston is looking for a person committed to social justice to assume the new position of Outreach Coordinator, to continue building the parish’s programs and relationships in Boston and beyond.

Trinity Church is a thriving Christian community in the heart of Boston’s Back Bay, and a member parish of the American Episcopal Church. We are a parish family drawing members from Boston and much of eastern Massachusetts. In our common worship and shared ministries we seek to encounter the holy together and stand as a visible witness of God’s love for the world. Some significant statistics about the church indicate the scope of operations: average Sunday attendance at worship is 890; 70,000 people visit the building annually as tourists; there are five ordained clergy, and 31 lay staff members of the church; a nonprofit foundation under the church focusing on youth in the Boston Public Schools has a staff of 25.

The Outreach Coordinator will report to the Associate Rector for Community Engagement and Ministry Development. The position is full time, exempt, working a 5-day flexible schedule including Sundays.

    Job Specific Duties:
    • Work with the Associate Rector in envisioning, planning, publicizing, and managing ministries and programs of outreach and social justice.
    • Coordinate volunteers by assisting parishioners and others in their discernment of call to community engagement; work with existing and emerging ministries to recruit and support participants.
    • Oversee training and other supportive activities for ministry leaders and participants.
    • Conduct research to determine appropriate programmatic responses to emerging issues of social justice.
    • Sustain ongoing relationships with staff of Trinity Boston Foundation (TBF), partners such as Greater Boston Interfaith Organization (GBIO) and diocesan organizations
    • Represent the church’s social justice focus with external organizations, including governmental and nonprofit agencies

    Qualifications:
    • Personal commitment to working in church community to discern and respond to God’s call for social justice and reconciliation
    • Ability to relate to persons of a variety of backgrounds, within the parish and in external relationships; understanding of principles of restorative justice and racial reconciliation
    • Strong communication skills, including written and oral presentations and use of social media
    • Ability to plan and execute schedules and manage multiple priorities
    • Self-directed, professional and resourceful style, ability to work independently and in a variety of team settings
    • Experience in community organizing or project management preferred
    • Bachelor’s degree required; graduate work in education, theology, or social work desired
