Principal – There is an immediate opening for a Principal. This position is a full-time exempt, 12-month position. The Principal reports directly to the Head of School and is responsible for the comprehensive oversight and implementation of all academic and student activities involving students and faculty for all grades (PreK-Grade 12).
South Shore Christian Academy is an independent, college-preparatory, non-denominational, co-ed day school educating students from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12. Current enrollment is 270 students.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in related field from an accredited college or university, at minimum; Master’s degree preferred.
5+ years experience in primary or secondary education with 3+ years in academic administration; charter or private educational experience preferred.
Proven record of administrative leadership, especially in academic leadership.
Able to effectively communicate with students, faculty, staff, and parents; requires demonstrated effectiveness in oral and written communication skills.
Affirm SSCA faith statement and teaching positions.
Primary Responsibilities:To support the Board of Trustee’s mission statements and philosophy of the school.
To ensure and maintain congruency between student-related activities of the school and its missions statements and philosophy.
To implement the Head of School’s directives regarding the educational position of the school.
To follow and ensure the school’s compliance with SSCA policies and procedures.
To act as the educational leader of the school, responsible for its day-to-day educational operation; in conjunction with the Director of Finance and Operations and other administrative personnel.
To function as the chief articulator of the school’s academic programs, expectations, behavioral guidelines, and other information necessary to ensure that all constituencies are fully informed consistent with their individual roles.
To supervise and evaluate all faculty in job performance, including all required formal evaluations and reporting (written and oral).
To meet regularly with individual faculty regarding job performance and development
To supervise and evaluate all academic support staff, including Registrar.
To observe, supervise, and evaluate the faculty in the development and implementation of curriculum; to supervise the teaching process, and to review and evaluate the academic programs.
To oversee interterm and other specialized curriculum experiences.
To maintain student discipline and follow-through with corresponding record keeping related to discipline.
To counsel students when necessary.
To keep the Head of School fully informed on student issues and all other relevant matters pertaining to school life.
To monitor AP courses and serve as AP coordinator, or oversee designee.
To lead committees that pertain to academic policies or procedures, including but not limited to school goals, course objectives, curriculum development, and means of assessment.
To provide an orderly, controlled environment in which learning can take place, a school climate that is supportive, reflects high morale, and embraces Micah 6:8.
To be aware of the educational, physical, social and psychological needs of the members of the school community and develop plans for meeting those needs.
To oversee and direct the activities of the different school and department chairs, sponsors and advisors of student organizations, and various faculty committees.
To ensure compliance with legal requirements and government regulations and agencies.
To maintain the educational standards as agreed upon by the Head of School, including those standards necessary for accreditation.
To make recommendations to the Head of School regarding the hiring, termination, retention, assignment, and duties of the faculty and academic staff.
To consult with Head of School regarding any student suspensions or expulsions prior to execution.
To recommend to Head of School and Director of Admissions any student that is to be considered for non re-enrollment.
To establish programs for the orientation of new teachers, for in-service training of all teachers, and for the evaluation of classroom teachers, to ensure that teachers are familiar with and adhere to school policies in all areas of school operation.
To meet with parents and guardians regarding concerns related to the academic and student development issues.
To conduct regular meetings with faculty and department chairs, which will deal both with routine school matters and with the stimulating exchange of ideas on issues of educational interest.
To oversee the coordination of co-curricular and extra-curricular activity programs of the school; to assist in the planning and presentation of school assemblies and programs; to assist in maintain a comprehensive calendar of school events, to keep the entire school community informed of various programs and activities.
To assist in the preparation of a master school schedule and to assign teachers and students to classes and other obligations.
To oversee standardized testing procedures and analyze and assess the results.
Secondary Responsibilities:To support the educational experience and needs of the school by teaching one course in the Middle or High School.
To attend all major school functions.
To support the admissions and development efforts of the school by supporting the Director of Admissions and Development, especially in areas of testing, interviewing, and evaluating candidates.
To report to the Board of Trustees on the state of the academic and student life of the school.
To prepare an annual report on the state of the curriculum.
To perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School.
Minimum Employment Requirements:Must affirm Statement of Faith and Teaching Positions.
SSCA conducts background checks and employment authorizations.
Regularly required to sit, stand, talk, hear, see (close and distant vision required).
Must be able to lift a minimum of 30 lbs. or more.
Required to move about campus regularly.
Must demonstrate competency with basic word processing, data processing, and internet functions, as well as all applications used in the regular functioning of the school.
Some evenings and weekends are required.
Minimal travel requirements.
