Managing Editor
The Emmanuel Gospel Center (EGC) is looking for a Managing Editor to join the
Applied Research and Consulting team. EGC supports Christian leaders to learn
collaboratively for the purpose of action taking and to tell the story of what God is
doing among us. Our methodology combines best practice tools from social
science, data analytics, community development, and planning and systems
thinking, and integrates them with spiritual diagnostic tools and disciplines. Prayer,
discernment, lament, repentance and testimony are critical components in our
work.Our research projects are designed to foster more and better connections among
Christian leaders, and for EGC and our partners to gain a more data-grounded
grasp of the needs and resources of Boston communities and churches. We are
committed to just, equitable and transparent research design practices that center
constituent voice in all stages from design to interpretation.The Managing Editor is responsible for editorial oversight of EGC’s website and our
written research and storytelling content. They will help shape and create research
story content and provide editorial oversight of a range of communications
materials. They play a key role in liaising across the research, development,
communications, and program staff to identify and develop stories and research
products, offering guidance and planning for delivery across web and social media
channels They will also help identify critical communications needs and plan
strategically to address them.The Managing Editor is a strong communicator and relationship-builder. They are
committed to innovative, engaging storytelling from ideation through execution,
combining the talents of an imaginative writer and exceptional editor and
proofreader. They are eager to work hands-on and collaborate with colleagues and
partners to help EGC meet our strategic goals.ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Managing Editor will report to the Director of Applied Research, Consulting,
and Initiatives, and will work closely with EGC’s Communication Team. They will
be responsible for the following duties:
• In partnership with team members, develop and guide EGC’s content
creation approach and strategy
• Supervise the content creation process from writing through editing and
publishing.
• Ensure that all webpage and resource content meet established standards
for clarity, consistency and style
• Provide project management and oversight to team to create content,
serving as primary editor of their work ensuring an integrated and effective
workflow
• Serve as strategic content producer by identifying new storytelling formats
and content creation opportunities
• Write quality and engaging resource and communication content
• Communicate regularly with staff to coordinate the dissemination of news
and information and foster content/story collaboration
• Publish content to EGC’s web and social media platforms
• Perform content audits, interpret content performance data and integrate
learnings into content strategySKILLS & EXPERIENCE
• Training and/or experience in journalism, communication, writing, or
equivalent
• Experience in either professional media, communications, publishing,
research or non-profit environment with at least two years of experience
in project management, managing a team or supervising the work of
others
• Outstanding communications, writing and editing skills
• Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills, and a sense of humor
• Proven track record creating and managing detailed project workplans
and content schedules
• Strong analytical skills and project management savvy
• Able to navigate relational and task-oriented conflict/blockage, generally with
grace and clarity
• Experience in constructively giving and receiving feedback from superiors,
peers, subordinates, and clients
• Proficiency in content marketing tools and performance metrics, familiarity
with SEO concepts
• Experience in communicating across a wide variety of platforms, including,
digital and social media. Familiarity with Square Space a plus.CRITICAL QUALITIES
● Mature Christian faith, as defined by being an active member of a local
church, agreement with the Apostles Creed, and displaying the life of a
Christian leader as described in 1 Timothy 3:1-10
● Passion for EGC’s principles and mission
• Robust and growing spiritual life that exhibits resilience in Jesus; exercises
spiritual discernment in EGC duties
● Ability to navigate projects while considering both the big picture and the
small details.

Currently, EGC’s office at 44 Moultrie is partially open with most employees
choosing to work from home full-time, and most of our team and staff meetings
take place over Zoom, Miro or by phone. We have strict guidelines and protocols
for those that do work in office and are committed to the safety and wellbeing of
our entire staff. We are working on a reopening plan and anticipate moving to a
hybrid model as more staff and constituents are vaccinated and as the pandemic
(hopefully) settles down. -
