Nurturing Relational Connections Across Boston's Christian Community
The Coalition of Immokalee Workers’ (CIW) Fair Food Program is a unique partnership among farmers, farmworkers, and retail food companies that ensures humane wages and working conditions for the workers who pick fruits and vegetables on participating farms. It harnesses the power of consumer demand to give farmworkers a voice in the decisions that affect their lives, and to eliminate the longstanding abuses in agriculture. This presentation will describe the history of farmworker abuse, effective labor organizing by the CIW towards the creation and success of the Fair Food Program, and the current campaigns for fair food and farmworker justice. Presented by Uriel Zelaya-Perez of the Alliance for Fair Food through the Boston University School of Theology’s Faith and Ecol0gical Justice Program.
