SUMMARY:Juneteenth Jubilee Observance
DESCRIPTION:For Juneteenth this year\, UniteBoston is teaming up with the New Democracy Coalition and other local partners including The Table for a Christian celebration of liberation on City Hall Plaza. \nThe holiday has a historic meaning within the African American community as way of expressing joy and gratitude about “liberation\, emancipation and justice.” The original Juneteenth celebrations began at Black churches in Texas. The God that Blacks served—who had delivered them from slavery—was and is the God of Liberation. \nOn Monday\, June 20\, 2022\, we will begin what we hope is a tradition: Boston-area Christians coming together to celebrate liberation through the historical prism of Juneteenth. \nElements of the event include: \n• DJ with Gospel and sacred and Soul Music \n• Dancers \n• Drummers \n• Speakers \nChurches and non-profit organizations are invited to bring and set up your own table to share about the work you’re doing in the city\, especially efforts to bring about racial justice and liberation. \nPlease invite your churches and community organizations to join us as we reflect on lighting Boston City Hall in Black Liberation Colors! \nHelp us Spread the Word through the Facebook Event.

SUMMARY:17th Annual Gospelfest
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a free fun filled evening of Gospel music! \nHeadlining the event will be Gospel star Tina Campbell. Tina is the sister of last year’s Gospelfest headliner Erica Campbell\, and together they make up the contemporary Gospel duo Mary Mary. Famous for the songs “Heaven”\, “Go Get It”\, “Get Up”\, and crossover hit “Shackles (Praise You)”\, Tina Campbell and Mary Mary have been a consistent force in the contemporary Gospel genre since 2000. \nOpening for Campbell will be Freda Battle\, pastor\, musician\, and active member of the Gospel community in New England and nationwide. Battle is originally from Boston where she started her music career\, and is looking forward to her return in August. \nIn addition to Campbell and Battle\, the Gospelfest Community Choir will also take the stage at Gospelfest this year. This will be the third year Gospelfest will feature a Community Choir in the lineup. Bringing local talent on to the same stage where nationally recognized artists perform is a highlight of this event. \n2016 will mark the sixteenth year for Gospelfest\, New England’s largest Gospel music celebration.
