SUMMARY:Theology on Tap: Transforming the Supernatural in the Reformation
DESCRIPTION:The Church of the Advent’s Theology on Tap \nreturns Tuesday\, April 17 with Prof. Carlos M. N. Eire\n \n\nHistorian and Memoirist Carlos M. N. Eire opens the 2018 season of Theology on Tap with reflections on: “Transforming the Supernatural in the Reformation” \nOne of the most significant changes brought about by the Protestant Reformation was a redefinition of the relation between the natural and supernatural realms\, which amounted to a redefinition of religion itself. How did this redefinition shape the various churches created in this era? How did it affect the Church of England? How does it affect us today?\n\nProf. Eire is the T. Lawrason Riggs Professor of History and Religious Studies at Yale University and the author of numerous books\, including most recently the magisterial Reformations: The Early Modern World\, which won the R. R. Hawkins Prize for Best Book of the Year from the American Publishers Association\, as well as the award for Best Book in the Humanities. He is also the author of the best-selling memoir Waiting for Snow in Havana: Confessions of a Cuban Boy\, which won the National Book Award for Non-Fiction.\n\n\nJoin us at 7 pm on April 17  at: \n\n\nCarrie Nation Cocktail Club\nThe Beacon Room\n11 Beacon Street\, near the State House\n\n\nAttendees wishing to eat dinner first are strongly encouraged to arrive early and please inform the club that you are part of the Church of the Advent party for the evening. \n  \n\n\n\n\nEvening Prayer will be said at the Church of the Advent\, 30 Brimmer Street\, at 5:30 pm. All are welcome to say the daily office together and then process from the parish church to Carrie Nation. \n\n\n\nPlease direct any questions to Father Jeff Hanson and follow us @adventboston

SUMMARY:POSTPONED: Theology on Tap: Transforming the Supernatural in the Reformation
DESCRIPTION:Due to unforeseen circumstances\, our scheduled speaker for the Theology on Tap session scheduled for Tuesday\, December 12\, 2017\, is unable to travel to Boston. The session is cancelled and will be rescheduled after Christmas. \n\n\nHistorian and Memoirist Carlos M. N. Eire concludes the 2017 season of Theology on Tap with reflections on: “Transforming the Supernatural in the Reformation.” \nAround the world people are commemorating the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther’s contributions to the continental Reformation. Prof. Eire’s scholarship shows however that the Reformation was not one historical event but a series of confluences intersecting across and beyond Europe and through decades of historic transformation. \nOne of the most significant changes brought about by the Protestant Reformation was a redefinition of the relation between the natural and supernatural realms\, which amounted to a redefinition of religion itself. How did this redefinition shape the various churches created in this era? How did it affect the Church of England? How does it affect us today? \nProf. He is also the author of the best-selling memoir Waiting for Snow in Havana: Confessions of a Cuban Boy\, which won the National Book Award for Non-Fiction. \nJoin us at 7 pm on December 12 at Carrie Nation Cocktail Club\, 11 Beacon Street\, near the State House.\nAttendees wishing to eat dinner first are strongly encouraged to arrive early and please inform the club that you are part of the Church of the Advent party for the evening.  \nEvening Prayer will be said at the Church of the Advent\, 30 Brimmer Street\, at 5:30 pm. All are welcome to say the daily office together and then process from the parish church to Carrie Nation. \nPlease direct any questions to Father Jeff Hanson and follow us @adventboston

DESCRIPTION:Theology on Tap returns Tuesday October 3 with Rev. Mrs. Fleming Rutledge – now at our NEW LOCATION on Beacon Hill! \nFleming Rutledge inaugurates the 2017 season of Theology on Tap with a highly appropriate topic: \n“The Once and Future Season: Advent.” \nWhy is the Advent season so uniquely important\, yet so misunderstood? She is the author of many other important books\, including The Crucifixion: Understanding the Death of Jesus Christ\, Not Ashamed of the Gospel: Sermons from Paul’s Letter to the Romans\, And God Spoke to Abraham: Preaching from the Old Testament\, and The Battle for Middle-Earth: Tolkien’s Divine Design in The Lord of the Rings. \nJoin us at 7 pm on October 3rd at our new location:\nCarrie Nation Cocktail Club\nThe Beacon Room\n11 Beacon Street\, near the State House \nEvening Prayer will be said at the Church of the Advent\,\n30 Brimmer Street\, at 5:30 pm.\nAll are welcome to say the daily office together and then process from the parish church to Carrie Nation. \nPlease direct any questions to Father Jeff Hanson (frhanson@theadventboston.org) and follow @adventboston
