SUMMARY:Boston United Worship & Mizpah Prayer Awakening
DESCRIPTION:Greetings in Jesus name! \n“Do not cease to cry to the Lord our God for us\, that he may save us from the hand of the Philistines.” (1 Sam. 7:7-8) \nThe coronavirus\, which began at the end of 2019\, became a worldwide pandemic in 2020. The whole world groaned under its impact. Many churches in Boston and New England began to worship remotely. However\, as the way for face-to-face worship was opened\, church services that were tightly closed are starting here and there. This is the time to worship and cry out in unity. Now is the time to quickly turn back to the presence of God as we confess our sins for forgiveness from the Lord. \nMy prayer is that the churches in Boston and New England will now unite in worship\, repentance\, and thanksgiving. This coming together needs to transcend the lines of race\, denomination\, and generation. I am proposing interdenominational church gatherings to pray for a spiritual awakening in the Boston area. \nWith crises like the pandemic\, we need to awaken the Christians and churches in the greater Boston area and New England. We pray that God will open up a new well of revival in Boston\, the home of the Puritans. We ask for a real wave of revival in Boston\, where the spiritual decline of some churches has been very noticeable. \nOn June 3rd\, there was a wonderful meeting with twenty-five key leaders from Boston and New England. In this meeting\, we were able to discuss the unity and collaboration of the Body of Christ in greater Boston and New England. After the meeting on June 3rd\, the Holy Spirit touched us to initiate united worship and prayer gatherings among churches and parachurch organizations – 67 key regional leaders in total participated for a Banquet and Vision Casting Meeting at Hilton Hotel Woburn/Boston’s Grand Ballroom on July 9. \nPlease spread the word to your churches and networks – We invite all God’s people to join together in prayer! Our hope is that these concerts will restore bonds of friendship\, justice\, and resilience\, bringing renewal to the body of Christ and our surrounding communities. SUMMARY:Love Thy Neighbor: COVID Grocery Delivery
DESCRIPTION:Jesus’ call for us to “love thy neighbor” presents a unique challenge during this time of social distancing. We currently have a “Love Thy Neighbor” campaign that showcases the diverse ways in which Christians throughout Greater Boston demonstrate love and connect with their neighbors in new and unexpected ways. \nLove Thy Neighbor Grocery Delivery \nWe have partnered with Park Street Church on a program in which Christians throughout the Greater Boston area can assist families with basic food needs. This program is focused on families and households who have someone that tested positive for COVID-19\, by providing them with groceries. Working in partnership with Massachusetts COVID-19 Community Tracing Collaborative (CTC) at the Department of Public Health\, the program puts each volunteer in contact with a particular family within the person’s designated zip code. The volunteers then have 48 hours to purchase and deliver groceries to their assigned families. Our goal is to serve 20 people per day\, or 100 per week! As of January 6\, 2021\, 126 volunteers from 31 churches were able to provide 14\,438 meals! In fact\, 14% of families requesting groceries through the State of Massachusetts were met by this program! \nHow Can You Help? \nIf you would like to be involved in this beautiful and much needed initiative\, please fill out the Registration Form  and help us spread the word! To get started\, we need to identify individuals who are able and willing to purchase and deliver food in a timely manner within their community. \nThank You! \nWe dream about coming together as the whole Body of Christ across Boston\, and rising up to “love thy neighbor” by meeting this practical need is a great way to get started. SUMMARY:2020 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity
DESCRIPTION:The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is an international initiative where Christians worldwide are reminded of Jesus’ prayer for his disciples that “they may be one so that the world may believe” (John 17:21).Locally\, UniteBoston coordinates evening collaborative gatherings of fellowship\, prayer and worship from January 18-25 annually. \n\nIn 2020\, the theme is “They Showed Us Unusual Kindness\,” (Acts 28:2) which was chosen by Christians in Malta. Malta\, an island in the Mediterranean Sea\, received the Christian faith through the efforts of the Apostle Paul\, after he was shipwrecked there while travelling to Rome (Acts 27:18 – 28:10). The local islanders showed Paul and the early disciples unusual kindness and hospitality through building a fire and welcoming them in\, despite the rain and cold. This posture of hospitality and welcoming of the stranger is a strong theme throughout the Biblical narrative. In a world where deep differences often keep people divided\, it’s as we adopt a posture of showing “unusual kindness” to other Christians and people of all backgrounds that we become witnesses of God’s love to all people. \nJoin in! \nMark Your Calendars – You are invited to mark your calendars and plan to attend the evening gatherings! People who attend from night to night will experience the Church in Boston in her diverse array of ethnicities\, traditions\, and geography. SUMMARY:Seeking Host Churches for Week of Prayer for Christian Unity Services
DESCRIPTION:Dear Pastors and Leaders\, \n\n\n\nFor the past two years\, the Institute for Christian Unity and UniteBoston have partnered together to host Week of Prayer for Christian Unity gatherings. In 2017\, there were nightly liturgically-oriented prayer and worship gatherings with churches from a variety of ethnicities\, traditions\, and geography. We also hosted a large worship service on January 21st in alignment with the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation\, that had over 8 co-sponsors and was attended by over 800 people. In 2018\, we focused on fellowship across our congregations\, and hosted 7 dinners in different neighborhoods in alignment with the launch of UniteBoston’s neighborhood dinner initiative. \n\n\nIn 2019\, the theme is “Justice\, Only Justice\, You Shall Pursue\,” (Deuteronomy 16:20). This year’s prayer service includes reflection on the recurring situations that bring divisions and conflicts and our calling as members of the body of Christ to pursue and embody justice. \n\n\nUniteBoston is currently seeking interest among a variety of local pastors for hosting a prayer service during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity (January 18 to 25\, 2019).  The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity includes a wide variety of churches from very different traditions\, polity and theology\, and while it can be challenging to come together\, this is a crucial time to witness to the reconciling peace and justice found in our Christian faith. \n\n\n\nClick here for more information about this year’s theme and expectations for hosting.  Please email Kelly Fassett (kelly@uniteboston.com) if you’re interested in hosting one of the services by December 5th. This will allow us time to consider all the night-to-night prayer and worship gatherings and neighborhood dinners and finalize the schedule. DESCRIPTION:Join a cohort of missional ecumenists to serve the Church in New England. \nGod has done some amazing things in building greater trust and partnership amongst the Christian community over the past few years. We are excited to see how God wants to further build on that foundation. Imagine the impact on our region of a cadre of 15-25 trained\, motivated\, and networked leaders who would be at the vanguard of Christian unity work for the next 5-10 years! \nJohn Armstrong from the ACT 3 Network will lead 4 all-day sessions (all on Mondays) spaced throughout the 2018 calendar year –March 19\, May 7\, September 24 and December 7. Three of the sessions would be in downtown Boston; one would be at Assumption College in Worcester. These sessions are essentially a compilation of the graduate course in Christian unity that John Armstrong taught for a number of years at Wheaton College. But there is also a strong relational component to the cohort\, building friendships across historic divisions in the Church and establishing potential missional partnerships for the future. \n \nPerhaps you are one of the people God is nudging to join us for this cohort. SUMMARY:Week of Prayer for Christian Unity
DESCRIPTION:The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is an international initiative where Christians worldwide are reminded of Jesus’ prayer for his disciples that “they may be one so that the world may believe” (John 17:21). \nLocally\, UniteBoston is coordinating seven consecutive evening collaborative gatherings of prayer and worship from January 18-25\, 2017.
