SUMMARY:Abiding in Beloved Community: The Cory Johnson Program through the Lens of Literary Imagination; a Talk by Rev. Liz Walker
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we look at our Cory Johnson Program for Post-Traumatic Healing (CJP) trauma work through the lens of literary imagination. Activists\, intellectuals and artists throughout contemporary history have eluded to the beloved community as a place and mindset of grace filled justice and reconciliation. Through the words of Dr. Martin Luther King and literary artists including the incomparable                  Tony Morrison\, Reverend Liz Walker presents a meditation on CJP as the model of that beloved community\, a groundbreaking antidote for these troubled times. \nThursday\, 1/16 at 6:00 pm; Roxbury Presbyterian Church Social Impact Center; 328 Warren Street; Roxbury\, MA

SUMMARY:Abiding in the Community: A Faith Based Response to a Neighborhood in Pain
DESCRIPTION:Abiding in the Community: A Faith Based Response to a Neighborhood in Pain is a conference day on Saturday 11/3/18 to highlight community ‘healing-centered’ support that strives to address the chronic individual and collective impact of trauma. Whether from  community violence\, racism\, structural oppression\, poverty\, addiction\, or various forms of interpersonal abuse\, trauma is at the core of a steadily eroding rupture of an individual’s sense of safety\, meaning in the world\, connection to self and others\, and personal agency. \nThis day is for all people interested in trauma healing and will offer: \n-a profound way of accompanying and remaining with individuals and communities who have experienced trauma and traumatic grief \n-an uncomplicated framework for educating people about trauma and the healing journey \n-an experience of Can We Talk – a program component that offers adults the opportunity to share their stories of trauma\, loss\, hope\, and healing; fostering connection and empowering individuals to take an active role in helping themselves and others heal. \nThe Cory Johnson Program for Post-Traumatic Healing\, led by Rev. Liz Walker with her team at Roxbury Presbyterian Church in Roxbury\, MA\, has been providing community trauma healing services for 4 years. Each week people are invited\, without cost or need for referral and with child care and a meal provided\, to attend program components that address the mind\, body\, and spiritual impacts of trauma. This day is so fortunate to be co-sponsored by the New England regional office of the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS New England). They are interested in helping The Cory Johnson Program connect with people in New England and across the country who would like to learn more about this model. \nThis event is being offered for free due to generous funding! Here is the website for the conference and to register. \nhttps://communitybasedtraumahealingconference.com/

SUMMARY:Faith In Fashion
DESCRIPTION:We are thrilled to announce an exciting event with Roxbury Presbyterian Church and Boston Designer David Josef – the cutting edge \n Faith in Fashion fundraiser\, scheduled for 6 pm on Thursday October 19th at the beautiful American Legion Nonantum Post 440 in Newton.  \nThis event marks a first of its kind collaboration and the creation of a powerful new community and we need your support. The Faith in Fashion Fundraiser will help raise money for the church and a key ministry of RPC’s Social Impact Center\, The Cory Johnson Program for Post Traumatic Healing. David Josef and Rev. Liz Walker have been friends for more than 30 years when he designed the clothes she wore as a television news anchor on WBZ TV. Now she is pastor of Roxbury Presbyterian Church\, a spirited and diverse faith institution that has been a beacon of hope and transformation in our city for 131 years. David and Liz came up with the idea of Faith In Fashion as a joyful way to support The Cory Johnson Program for Post Traumatic Healing which addresses the lasting impact of violence in our community. \nThe Faith in Fashion event will include some of Boston’s top designers and models. It promises to bring together people of faith\, people of fashion and a variety of others from all over the Boston area who are concerned about love\, compassion and social justice. Be ready to have a great time! Come join us for the fun including the chance to receive two tickets to Hamilton – the greatest Broadway Musical ever!!!! Proceeds from the event will go to the church and the Cory Johnson program. For ticket information\, visit roxburypresbyterianchurch.org \nHope to see you there!
