SUMMARY:RCCI Cohort Communities for White Evangelicals
DESCRIPTION:Cohorts are communities where Christians can learn about racism from a biblical perspective and develop the capacity to respond to it as an outworking of their faith. Our current cohorts are designed for White leaders shaped by the evangelical tradition\, and aim to create a space where they can come together to learn and do the self-work needed to engage issues related to race more effectively. RCCI understands leadership broadly and welcomes formal and informal leadership alike.  \nCohorts are six-month commitments through which people examine and respond to the ways racism impacts ourselves\, our society\, our Christian communities\, and faith. They are run in a seminar-style format for small groups of 6-8 people and utilize various methods\, including engaging books and media\, guest speakers\, discussion\, spiritual disciplines\, creative exercises\, and field trips. Cohorts value experiential and peer learning and aim to get beyond an intellectual understanding of race by engaging the whole person in mind\, body\, emotions\, and spirit. \nAt the end of each cohort\, participants go through an individual and communal discernment process regarding how they can take actions to contribute to the dismantling of racism in their sphere of influence. All alumni are also invited into RCCI’s support and accountability groups to receive ongoing resources to move from knowing and caring to action. \nClick here for more information.  \nClick here to apply by March 11 for our spring cohort!

SUMMARY:Documentary on the History of Racism in Boston
DESCRIPTION:As a new year begins\, many of us are making resolutions\, not the least of which include working toward racial healing\, justice\, and reconciliation in our communities. That said\, we can’t know how to nurture transformation more effectively until we better understand the history that shapes our racial climate today.\n\nYou can learn more about Boston’s racial history by watching the award-winning documentary\, A Reckoning in Boston\, on PBS on January 17th\, 2022 at 10 pm.\n\nThis documentary was birthed when a White film maker began documenting the journey of low-income\, adult students of color\, only to find that\, through this experience\, he was getting his own education. A collaboration was then formed between the filmmaker and two students of color to co-produce a film exploring the history of racism in Boston.

SUMMARY:Career Opportunities at EGC - Deadline June 14

SUMMARY:Refining Fire - EGC Virtual Concert and Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:The Emmanuel Gospel Center Fundraiser will be an online concert and fundraiser event\, shown via an hour-long video production. This will consist of music videos\, EGC program content\, and other voices from the city. The theme for this year is Refining Fire. The inspiration behind this theme is to recognize that the past year has been filled with trials and tribulations\, and we all have been affected both as a community and in our personal lives. Our hope is that these difficulties would not break us down but would refine and strengthen us. The online event\, of course\, is free to watch\, but this will still be EGC’s annual fundraiser.\n\nTo register\, click here.

SUMMARY:EGC Virtual Silent Auction
DESCRIPTION:Strengthening Christian leaders to serve urban communities is the heart of Emmanuel Gospel Center’s mission. During the past few months\, Dorchester\, Mattapan\, and other communities of color have been disproportionately impacted by COVID-19\, and urban Christian leaders continue to be at the center of responding. The recent murder of George Floyd and other Black brothers and sisters\, and the protests following their deaths\, have brought into sharp focus the need for racial justice and community action. This year\, EGC’s silent auction is supporting three ministry partners doing this important work: Agencia ALPHA\, The Black Ministerial Alliance\, and The Massachusetts Council of Churches. \nFor more information\, click here.

SUMMARY:Postponed - EGC Annual Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:I was looking forward to hosting EGC’s urban ministry party and fundraiser at Florian Hall on April 4th\, but as you know\, the party is one of many events that has been cancelled due to the current Coronavirus crisis.\n\nThis is an extraordinary time\, and we are all working (many from home\, some from the frontlines) to understand how to address the challenges that are before us. For EGC\, this means our team has begun reaching out to church and Christian leaders to listen to their concerns\, connect them to resources\, and discern how we can work together for fruitful\, aligned engagement.  Our prayer is that churches and leaders will respond well to support each other and love and serve those who are in need around us\, especially those who are most vulnerable. Instead of hosting an in-person or virtual event on April 4th\, I hope that we will be able to invite you to an Open House in our new space in June\, and that we can do our silent auction then as well. In the meantime\, I pray that the Lord will bless you\, keep you\, and lead you.

SUMMARY:Volunteer to help the Emmanuel Gospel Center Move!
DESCRIPTION:After having been situated in the heart of the South End for over 80 years\, the Emmanuel Gospel Center is moving to Second Church in Codman Square Dorchester! We would love your help archiving\, packing\, cleaning\, and moving over the next several weeks in September as we make this historic transition in ministry location. There are ongoing opportunities for individuals nearly every day of the week and major move events where we’d love to have you and your community join us. Please sign up here to volunteer. \nWe’ll also be having a “Furniture Free for All” open house on September 24th and 25th at our San Juan Street location. If you have a need for office furniture\, come on by with a vehicle and hands to help and haul away anything of your liking. \nReach out to ssathananthan@egc.org or call the center at 617-262-4567 for more information.
