SUMMARY:Join the Online Beloved Community Lab Cohort
DESCRIPTION:Monthly on Thursdays\, 10:00AM to 1:00PM | Starts October 1 | Application Due August 21 \n– Do you long for a depth of unity that honors our unique cultures\, backgrounds\, and experiences\, rather than ignoring them?-  \n– How do we follow Jesus’ call to love our neighbors – and our enemies – while holding fast to our deepest convictions? \n– Do you want to explore how our differences can strengthen our connections to one another instead of fracturing us apart?  \n– Do you long for the Church to be known for what we are for\, rather than what we are against?  \n– Do you desire to be an ambassador of reconciliation and grow in learning how to lead your community in the peacemaking\, reconciling Way of Jesus?    \n– Do you have a longing to see the Church get beyond our fractured witness? \nIf these questions stir up something inside you\, then the Beloved Community Lab might be for you! \n\nA New Kind of Leadership for a Divided Time \nDespite Jesus’ clear mandate for unity and welcoming all to the table\, churches remain some of the most divided institutions in our society. With over 45\,000 Christian denominations and countless divides over race\, gender\, theology\, and politics\, the Church’s fractured witness stands in stark contrast to Jesus’ prayer that we would be one (John 17). \nA team of diverse Christian leaders in Boston recognized this gap and came together to ask:\nWhat kind of discipleship is needed to form leaders who uphold God’s call for unity and oneness in today’s world? \nThrough prayer\, study\, and listening\, UniteBoston has been on a three-year journey of developing the Beloved Community Lab\, a unique opportunity for Christian leaders to come together across lines of difference to learn and practice unity\, justice\, and reconciliation in their leadership contexts. \nWe call this a “lab” because it combines core theological concepts with real-world application through case studies\, interactive exercises\, and spiritual practices. This cohort is a space for spiritual formation—shaping participants into peacemakers and reconcilers\, growing into the life and way of Jesus. Read the story and fruit emerging behind about our pilot cohort here and a reflection by cohort alum Dr. Michael James. \nIf we want to see a different kind of world and a more embodied Christian witness\, we must become different kinds of people. Our pilot Beloved Community Lab cohort is an experiment in Christian unity that seeks to change not just what we know\, but how we live. \n\nDetails  \nWHEN: Thursdays from 10:00AM to 1:00PM EST (Approx every three weeks) \nFORMAT: Zoom \nCOST: $600 to $1000 (Sliding scale) \nAPPLICATION DEADLINE: August 21\, 2026 \nWHO SHOULD APPLY:\nChristian leaders who value unity\, reconciliation\, and justice—and want to grow in living these out. We are seeking to convene a cohort community that come from a wide range of denominational\, theological\, racial/ethnic\, and generational backgrounds. This cohort in particular is designed for Christian leaders who are interested in bringing the Beloved Community Lab to their contexts and cities. \nClick here to see the Beloved Community Lab Cohort PDF to learn more about the vision\, dates\, core competencies\, and more. \n\nWe believe there’s no better time than now for Christ followers to prioritize the ministry of reconciliation by engaging well across our deep differences – serving as peacemakers in our fractured world. Today’s algorithms and silos will seek to keep us fractured and divided\, but God calls us to a different way.  \nSome of the most transformational moments in life happen when we journey with others. Are you ready to walk the uniting\, reconciling way of Jesus—with courage\, compassion\, and community? \nApply by August 21 to join the pilot cohort. \nLet’s grow together as peacemakers in a fractured world.

SUMMARY:Week of Prayer for Christian Unity
DESCRIPTION:The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is an international initiative where Christians worldwide are reminded of Jesus’ prayer for his disciples that “they may be one so that the world may believe” (John 17:21). Locally\, UniteBoston coordinates evening collaborative gatherings of fellowship\, prayer and worship from January 18-25 annually. \n\n\n\nThis Year’s Theme: Drawing from the resilience and liturgical richness of the Christians of Armenia—Oriental Orthodox\, Catholic\, and Evangelical—this year’s Week of Prayer for Christian Unity invites us to reflect on Ephesians 4:4: “There is one body and one Spirit\, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling.” As the first nation to officially embrace Christianity in 301 CE\, Armenia offers a profound witness to unity that has survived centuries of persecution and displacement. The materials for 2026 highlight that our shared identity is rooted in a ancient covenant\, symbolized by the safe arrival of Noah’s Ark on Mount Ararat and the promise of the rainbow. By focusing on our common vocation and the “one hope” of salvation\, we are challenged to move beyond historical divisions toward a conversion of heart\, practicing a unity that embraces diversity while remaining steadfast in the love and mission of Christ. \n\n\n\nMark Your Calendars – You are invited to mark your calendars and plan to attend the evening gatherings! In this time of Epiphany\, we encourage you to receive the manifestation of Jesus Christ through those of different denominations\, races and cultures. Let’s make the most of these opportunities in order to truly be the family of God and serve as the body of Christ in the world. Let’s also pray with our feet – consider how our beliefs can come together in common action and witness. \n\n\n\nSpread the Word – We also appreciate help spreading the word to people in your congregation\, family\, friends\, and neighbors. A personal invitation goes a long way. \n\n\n\nUB Board Devotionals – This year for the Week of Prayer\, the UniteBoston Board and Staff will be sharing video devotional and prayers\, which will be shared on our social media. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram! \n\n\n\nCalling to mind our common commitment to ‘love thy neighbor\,’ may the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity\, January 18-25\, 2025 be full of moments of conversion of heart through our encounters\, so that “all may be one.” \n\n\n\n\n\nResources for Your Week of Prayer Experience\n\n\n\nLitany for Christian Unity \n\n\n\nChristian Unity Daily Prayer Guide – Created by the Greymoor Institute or The Initiative \n\n\n\nIntroduction on the Theme from Greymoor Ecumenical & Interreligious Initiative \n\n\n\nAs you are able\, please also share this invitation with other churches and communities in your network so that more communities may gather to pray at this pivotal time in our country and city. \n\n\n\n\n\nSchedule for Gatherings in Boston & New England\n\n\n\n*All events are free and open to all.* \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThurs January 15  – Taizé Prayer with the Sisters of St. Joseph  \n\n\n\n7:00 to 7:45pm at Motherhouse Chapel of the Sisters of St. Joseph\, 637 Cambridge St\, Brighton\, MA 02135 \n\n\n\nTaizé prayer is a simple form of Christian prayer centered on scripture\, silence\, and song based on the daily prayer of the religious community in Taizé\, France. As women rooted in the Gospel whose mission is to deepen relationships with God and neighbor\, the Sisters of St. Joseph invite you to join in praying for unity and love in our world and in our own hearts. \n\n\n\nMon January 19 – Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King\, Jr. Day \n\n\n\nWe encourage you to join into many different opportunities to remember the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.. Events listed with Meet Boston\, City of Cambridge. SUMMARY:Pathways to Grace: Healing and Renewal for Women and Men.
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this interactive\, experiential hybrid online/in-person experience with Gender Equity and Reconciliation International (GERI)\, specifically focused for Christian communities. This will be held with online sessions November 24 and December 1\, and in-person sessions December 4\, 5\, and 6. \nDeveloped over 30 years and conducted with thousands of participants across six continents\, the GERI process applies principles of Truth and Reconciliation pioneered by Archbishop Desmond Tutu to begin a process of healing divisions across humanity. Our journey on this course will take us through the often-muted attitudes\, fears\, shame and brokenness of patriarchal society\, to reclaim and restore the mutual harmony\, respect and collaboration intended for men and women as God’s image bearers. \nLeaving behind our busy agendas\, we join together to create a safe space for attentive listening as we begin to unravel the truth of our gendered experiences. Gradually\, a deeper level of compassion and understanding unfolds to reveal tangible pathways to re-imagine and re-form gender relations that move toward forgiveness\, healing and the restoration of relationships. \nPlease join us as we embrace a new form of spiritual healing and reconciliation work that builds trust and connection through a skillful combination of interactive activities\, spiritual practice\, and transformative group process. \n\nOnline sessions: Monday\, November 24\, and Monday\, December 1 (6:00–8:30 p.m.)\nIn-person retreat: December 4 (5:30–9:00 p.m.)\, December 5 (4:00–9:00 p.m.)\, and December 6 (9:00 a.m.–9:00 p.m.)\n\n\n\nFor more information\, visit www.grworld.org. Or email Michele Breene\, michelebreene@gmail.com

SUMMARY:United Gospel Experience Tour
DESCRIPTION:Our finale concert for the 2025-2026 United Gospel Experience Tour will be on Saturday April 18 from 4:30pm to 6:30pm at Morningstar Baptist Church\, 1257 Blue Hill Ave\, Mattapan\, MA 02126. \nCentered on the theme “Come together\, stay together\, worship together” (Mt. 18:20)\, the tour centers on Jesus’ promise that “where two or three gather in my name\, there am I with them.” In these challenging times\, our prayer is that\, through this united worship\, God’s Spirit will move mightily to bring healing\, reconciliation\, and new life. We’ve discovered that when students from across New England join their voices in one choir\, gospel music rises as a powerful proclamation of hope and freedom. \nPlease help us spread the word by spreading the word to local pastors and congregations through our invite letter!  \nClick here to read the story behind this year’s tour and how you can be part of it. And don’t miss this documentary of highlights and testimonies from last year’s gospel experience tour! \n  \n

SUMMARY:Join the Pilot Cohort of the Beloved Community Lab
DESCRIPTION:Monthly on Tuesdays\, 11:00AM–2:00PM | Starts September 16 | $750 Stipend | Application Due August 15 \n – Do you long to be in a community of Boston-based leaders from a variety of Christian traditions and backgrounds? \n – How do we follow Jesus’ call to love our neighbors – and our enemies – without losing our convictions? \n – Do you want to explore how conflict can strengthen our connections to one another instead of fracturing us apart?  \n – Do you long for the Church to be known for what we are for\, rather than what we are against?  \n – Do you desire to be an ambassador of reconciliation (2 Cor 5:20) and want to grow in learning how to lead your community in the peacemaking\, reconciling Way of Jesus?   –  \nIf these questions stir up something inside you\, then the Beloved Community Lab might be for you! \n\nA New Kind of Leadership for our Divided Time \nDespite Jesus’ clear mandate for unity and welcoming all to the table\, churches remain some of the most divided institutions in our society. With over 45\,000 Christian denominations and countless divides over race\, gender\, theology\, and politics\, the Church’s fractured witness stands in stark contrast to Jesus’ prayer that we would be one (John 17). \nA team of diverse Christian leaders in Boston recognized this gap and came together to ask: \nWhat kind of discipleship is needed to form leaders who uphold God’s call for unity and oneness in today’s world? \nThrough prayer\, study\, and listening\, UniteBoston has been on a two-year journey of developing the Beloved Community Lab\, a unique opportunity for Boston-area Christian leaders to come together across lines of difference to learn and practice unity\, justice\, and reconciliation in their leadership contexts. \nWe call this a “lab” because it combines core theological concepts with real-world application through case studies\, interactive exercises\, and spiritual practices. This cohort is a space for spiritual formation—shaping leaders into peacemakers and reconcilers\, growing into the life and way of Jesus.  \nThe things that are keeping us part are deep-rooted: we need a vision of togetherness that doesn’t only lean into our differences but also brings about holistic gospel transformation. If we want to see a different kind of world and a more embodied Christian witness\, we must become different kinds of people. Our pilot Beloved Community Lab cohort is an experiment in Christian unity that seeks to change not just what we know\, but how we live. \n\nDetails  \nWHEN: Tuesdays from 11:00AM–2:00PM\nFORMAT: Monthly gatherings in-person (Greater Boston Area) or Zoom\nSTIPEND: $750 for full participation\nAPPLICATION DEADLINE: August 15\, 2025\nWHO SHOULD APPLY:\nChristian leaders in Greater Boston who value unity\, reconciliation\, and justice—and want to grow in living these out. We are seeking to convene a cohort community of stakeholders that come from a wide range of denominational\, theological\, racial/ethnic\, and generational backgrounds to shape the curriculum during its pilot stage. \nClick here to see the Beloved Community Lab Cohort PDF to learn more about the vision\, dates\, core competencies\, and more. We will be choosing 15 pastoral leaders from diverse backgrounds and we do have $750 stipends to honor leaders for their time and participation. \nWe believe there’s no better time than now for Christ followers to prioritize the ministry of reconciliation by engaging well across our deep differences – serving as peacemakers in our fractured world. Today’s algorithms and silos will seek to keep us fractured and divided\, but God calls us to a different way.  \nApply by August 15 to join the Pilot Cohort!  \nWe look forward to learning with you!

As social distancing requirements ease\, we have an opportunity to examine how we publicly practice our faith to stand in solidarity with those whom society marginalizes. We are pleased to welcome Rev. J. Bryan Hehir\, Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Service\, Archdiocese of Boston\, and the Parker Gilbert Montgomery Professor emeritus of the Practice of Religion and Public Life at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government to lead the Workshop\, which will be held in-person at Saint Cecilia Parish Hall and virtually on Zoom. \nClick here to register. \nFor more information\, please get in touch with Bill Sheehan at wsheehan@faith-justice.org
