SUMMARY:Looking Back to Move Forward: Stories from the Boston Sankofa Journey
DESCRIPTION:Join us as our Boston Sankofa Journey members reflect on nine months of exploring Boston’s historical landmarks tied to the legacy of slavery\, the Black freedom movement\, and the role of churches in both supporting and resisting slavery. Through personal stories and creative storytelling\, they will share transformative moments and how they are carrying these experiences forward.\n\nThis event invites you to engage in a journey of truth-telling\, healing\, and justice\, connecting our narratives to Boston’s local history. Recognizing that many other leaders are engaged in similar work within their institutions\, we’ll also open a dialogue on how we might strengthen the collective movement toward racial equity\, justice and repair in our city. \nThis gathering will take place at the Historic Myrtle Baptist Church\, a hub for social justice and civil rights advocacy and a cornerstone of Newton’s African American community. You are welcome to come early to explore the physical displays where they have catalogued their history. \nSankofa\, a Ghanaian term meaning “to learn from the past to inform the future\,” inspires this journey. Come listen\, share\, and be part of this meaningful conversation and action-taking at this influential moment in our city and country. \n\nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:Ecumenical Spring Celebration - March 16\, Saturday
DESCRIPTION:At the request of local pastoral leaders and in faithful response to Jesus’ prayer “that all of them may be one” (John 17:21)\, Kinship Farm occasionally supports events where Christians throughout the North Shore and beyond can come together to share in the beauty of nature and fellowship. \nJoin us on Saturday\, March 16! The centerpiece will be an outdoor\, hour-long ecumenical Christian worship service. For an hour beforehand and afterward\, participants may peacefully and contemplatively walk along woodland trails\, and occasionally stop to engage with displays offered by Christians from a variety of denominations. Displays may include scripture and other text\, music\, art\, woodworking\, and other creative\, interactive\, youth-friendly displays about spirituality that is informed by Christ Jesus and that promotes healthy relationships and/or celebrates the natural outdoor setting. \nThe worship service and displays will be suitable for youth\, teens\, and adults and general registration is free. The event will be held in South Hamilton\, MA. Displays will be staffed from 1-2 p.m. and 3-4 p.m. and the worship ceremony will run from 2-3 p.m. We regret and apologize that the trails\, tents\, and worship service will not be equipped with facilities or features to ensure full accessibility for individuals with mobility challenges. \nTo host a booth\, churches will need to fill out an application form by February 26 and pay a modest commitment fee of $30. In return\, on the day of the event\, a basic tent and table will be set up for them and they will need to bring whatever additional materials they need to respectfully present their message. If you know of a church who might like to participate in the planning of the worship service or to host a booth\, please forward this information to them. \n\n\n\n\n\nThe General Registration deadline is March 6. Click on the blue button on our website page to register. The application for displays can also be found on the same webpage. \nPlease direct all question\, ideas\, and desire about this celebration to info@kinshipfarm.org. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout our Demonstration Application and requirements:\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOutdoor interactive tented booth spaces are limited and are on a first come basis. We are asking for a $30 commitment fee along with your completed ‘Display Application’ form to secure your space. The $30 commitment fee is a small contribution towards the broader expenses associated with furnishing you a tent and table. \nWe appreciate your cooperation with the application process and kindly ask you to submit your completed Display Application and $30 commitment fee by February 24\, 2024 to reserve your tented booth space.

SUMMARY:Aardvark Jazz Orchestra\, Duke Ellington's Sacred Music
DESCRIPTION:The Aardvark Jazz Orchestra (Mark Harvey\, director) will open its historic 47th season with a Duke Ellington Celebration\, including tuneful classics and joyful sacred music featuring the First Parish of Concord choir\, directed by Elizabeth Norton\, with Nikki Turpin\, narrator.  The concert will be held Sunday\, September 22 at 7:00 pm at First Parish Church of Concord MA.  The program is sponsored by the Music Ministry of First Parish in collaboration with The Robbins House.  Aardvark has been called “stunningly beautiful” (New York City Jazz Record)\, “spellbinding” (The Boston Globe) and “one of the best jazz ensembles in the world” (Jazz Podium\, Germany).  The band has been praised for “lush sonorities and a saxophonic blend worthy of Ellington’s finest reed sections” (JazzTimes). \nThe concert will honor Duke Ellington (1899-1974) in his 120th birthday year with a program celebrating joy\, justice\, and love – themes that were important for Ellington throughout his life.  Although not a religious event\, the program embraces the tenets of Christianity in celebrating social justice\, equality and inclusiveness.  The Reverend Dr Mark Harvey\, Aardvark’s founder and music director is a retired Methodist minister\, who has written compositions on themes of spirituality\, peace and justice and led his orchestra in concerts for these causes for 50 years.  The September 22 concert will feature music from Ellington’s Sacred Concerts\, including Heaven and New World A-Comin’ which Duke described as “a place where there would be no war\, no greed\, no categorization\, and where love would be unconditional.”  The First Parish choir will join Aardvark in two sacred works:  the ebullient David Danced before the Lord\, and It’s Freedom\, a powerful expression of Civil-Rights-era fervor with resonance for today. \nThe Aardvark Jazz Orchestra performs widely\, has premiered more than 175 works for jazz orchestra\, and has released 15 CDs\, including 9 discs on Leo Records and a recording of Duke Ellington’s Sacred Music on the Aardmuse label.  Aardvark guests have included Sheila Jordan\, Ricky Ford\, Geri Allen\, Jaki Byard\, Jimmy Giuffre and other luminaries.  The band has performed Ellington concerts for more than three decades\, including an Ellington Centennial Concert in 1999 at MIT’s mainstage Kresge Auditorium.  Mark Harvey has transcribed many Ducal works\, and has written and lectured about Ellington for more than 25 years. \nAardvark is: Arni Cheatham\, Peter H. Bloom\, Phil Scarff\, Chris Rakowski\, Dan Zupan/saxes and woodwinds; K.C. Dunbar\, Jeanne Snodgrass/trumpets; David Harris\, Jay Keyser/trombones; Jeff Marsanskis\, Bill Lowe/bass trombones\, tuba; John Funkhouser/piano; Rick McLaughlin/string bass; Harry Wellott/drums; Jerry Edwards and Grace Hughes\, vocalists; and Mark Harvey\, arranger/music director.   The orchestra is managed by Americas Musicworks\, Rebecca DeLamotte\, director\, telephone 617 776 8778

SUMMARY:Single Release Concert & Poetry Night at Charles Street AME
DESCRIPTION:Greetings\, \nI am writing to invite you to a Single Release Concert and Poetry Night at Charles Street AME in Dorchester on June 14th at 7 pm. \nI have been in the United Kingdom for the past 4 years at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland where I recently completed my PhD program. \nMy PhD graduation is on July 10th back in the UK which I will be attending. However\, I don’t want to go alone.  I want to return with my family (four of us). Unfortunately\, I don’t have the funds to purchase four flight tickets and pay for  hotel accommodation for the brief time in the UK.  So\, I decided to release a single I have been working on at a concert and poetry night. Attached is the flyer. \nI will also be singing from my previous two gospel albums\, reading from my upcoming book on Poetic Expressions as well as commenting on social and penal issues from my book: Locked Up and Locked Down: Multitude Lingers in Limbo Revised Edition. Below is the Eventbrite link for more details. Thanks for your support. \nSingle Release Concert and Poetry Night at Charles Street AME \n

SUMMARY:IF:Boston
DESCRIPTION:This is a generation that is not just hungry for big faith\, but for a big faith that is lived out in the practical\, mundane things we do and the decisions that we make everyday. What does it look like to follow God and live out this faith in our relationships\, at our jobs\, in conflict\, in suffering\, with money? Faith can move mountains\, but it can also change our everyday circumstances\, so we are going to look at God’s word to do that in one of the most practical\, yet misunderstood\, books of the Bible – Proverbs. Proverbs doesn’t show us a set of rules\, but a different way to live that is so attractive\, so fragrant\, flowing through our lives\, actions\, relationships\, and work\, and drawing people to Christ. Together\, we are going to discover what it looks like to do these things\, not perfectly\, but in good faith\, trying our best to obey God and His way of life. \nIF:Boston is trying a new format this year. We are not hosting IF:Gathering live\, but playing it three weeks later. Our hope is to allow more time for conversation and connection between attendees. On Friday night\, we will gather in homes around the city to allow for a cozy start to the conference (and make it easier to get home on time!). On Saturday\, we will gather all together at Park Street Church in Boston.
