We believe one of the ways forward is through listening. But not just any listening\, true contemplative & transformational listening that builds change & community. 10 years ago\, we created our Transformational Listening: Soul Care Companions course with this in mind. Today it holds up to the test of time. Listening to God & one another makes a lasting difference. We can be contemplatives in action creating change in our inner lives with Christ & in our communities as we love one another. DESCRIPTION:This Good Friday\, April 18th at 4pm beginning at the Thomas O’Neill Federal Building downtown\, Christians and people of faith will gather in prayer and protest\, demanding protection for our immigrant neighbors and our communities. \nJesus’ birth was a story of migration and border-crossing. Jesus’ death was a confrontation with – and triumph over – the powers of empire and a radical\, loving act of solidarity with the oppressed. In remembering Jesus’ story during Holy Week\, we are called to be in solidarity with the crucified peoples of our present. This public worship and action calls on our state elected officials to protect our communities by passing the Dignity not Deportations Act and by getting ICE off of our streets and out of our churches. SUMMARY:Singing the Songs of Jesus: Learning to pray the Psalms in Christ
DESCRIPTION:Our guest speak for our 2019 Fall Conference is Christopher Ash. Join us for this 2 day event as we take a deeper look into the Psalms. We will meet Saturday from 9am-3pm (lunch and childcare for under age 6 provided) and Sunday from 9:15am-noon. \nChristopher Ash is Writer-in-Residence at Tyndale House in Cambridge\, England. He is a full-time preacher\, teacher\, and writer. After working in the telecommunications industry and as a teacher of math\, Christopher studied theology at Oxford. He was ordained and served as an Assistant Pastor in St.Andrew the Great Church in Cambridge\, before leading a church plant to a nearby village\, in 1997. In 2004 he and Carolyn moved to central London where Christopher served as Director of the Proclamation Trust’s Cornhill Training Course\, training preachers and bible teachers\, until July 2015.\nChristopher’s wife Carolyn serves on the Board of London City Mission. She and Christopher have been entrusted with three sons and a daughter (all now grown up) and six grandchildren. They belong to St.Andrew the Great church\, where Christopher is part of the preaching team.\nChristopher has written various books\, including Bible Delight (on Psalm 119)\, Teaching Psalms volumes 1 and 2\, Job: the wisdom of the Cross\, and The Book your Pastor really wishes you would read (but is too embarrassed to ask).
