Now the same short list of beliefs no longer has the same unifying effect. What could it mean to be the Church in this moment?\n​\nHosted by InterVarsity’s Theological Foundations Department and InterVarsity Greater Boston\, this panel discussion will feature pastor-theologians who will take us beyond that short list into deeper convictions about who we are as human beings\, and what the Church is meant to be and do in our world fractured by race\, politics\, and more. As an “Ecclesial Storyteller”\, she seeks to encourage theologically framed\, biblically attentive\, and socially compelling interpretations of Christian Scripture in order to understand the critical issues influencing community formation in contemporary culture. \n\n\n​Dr. Marc Cortez is the Dean of the Litfin Divinity School at Wheaton College and a leading expert in theological anthropology\, an area of theology that focuses on what Christians believe about human persons. He has written multiple books on the subject\, including Theological Anthropology: A Guide for the Perplexed (Bloomsbury\, 2010)\, ReSourcing Theological Anthropology (Zondervan\, 2018)\, and Christological Anthropology in Historical Perspective (Zondervan\, 2016). \n\n\n​This discussion will be moderated by Rev. Dr. Jeff Liou\, PhD\, the National Director of Theological Formation for InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. Jeff has been ministering among college students and young adults since 2001. DESCRIPTION:Dear Massachusetts Residents of All Faiths: \nWe are writing to you with an invitation to pray with your feet and march with us from Lexington to Boston this Labor Day – Monday\, September 1st\, 9:00-5:00 – to sound the alarm for American democracy and to demand a more just and humane democracy that honors our shared sacred values. \nOn Friday\, May 30th\, hundreds of us marched this same route from Lexington to Boston\, reversing Paul Revere’s ride for liberty 250 years ago to sound the alarm for democracy\, as the actions of our current presidential administration regularly violate our shared sacred values and our constitutional rights. We stopped in Lexington\, Arlington\, Cambridge\, and Boston to pray to God for the merciful and just rule of law from our federal administration\, as well as the protection and preservation of our sacred values and democratic principles. The concert will begin with works in Greek from medieval Constantinople\, followed by liturgical works by twentieth-century Greek American composers such as Tikey Zes\, Theodore Bogdanos\, and Frank Desby. \nThe second half\, led by Associate Music Director John Michael Boyer\, will feature the East Coast premiere of Heaven and Earth: A Song of Creation\, a setting of Psalm 103. Commissioned by the Saint John of Damascus Society to celebrate the discovery of the Higgs boson\, six composers: Tikey Zes\, +Richard Toensing\, GRAMMY-nominee Kurt Sander\, Alexander Khalil\, John Michael Boyer\, and Matthew Arndt\, each set a portion of the Psalm\, creating a seamless tapestry.

DESCRIPTION:The Aardvark Jazz Orchestra continues its historic 45th season on Saturday\, April 7\, 2018 at 8:00 pm\, with a show on MIT’s main stage\, Kresge Auditorium\, 77 Massachusetts Avenue\, Cambridge\, MA 02139. The orchestra will perform the premiere of director Mark Harvey’s latest work\, Faces of Souls\, together with other Mark Harvey originals.  Presented by MIT Music & Theater Arts.  Free and open to the public.  Information: 617-452-3205 or 617-776-8778. \nMark Harvey is a composer\, educator\, bandleader and retired Methodist minister.  Many of his compositions explore themes of peace and social justice in American history and contemporary culture.   The program on April 7 will center around these themes\, His piece Faces of Souls is inspired by the Charles Ives composition Boston Common and the Augustus Saint-Gaudens statue commemorating Colonel Robert Gould Shaw and the 54th Massachusetts Regiment\, heroes of the Civil War.  The April 7 show will feature other works by Mark Harvey\, including The Journey (honoring Martin Luther King\, Jr. and the struggle for civil rights)\, and Blue Butterfly\, a blues evoking the late Brother Blue (aka Hugh Morgan Hill)\, a legendary storyteller famous in Boston and beyond\, and a longtime friend of Aardvark.  The evening finale will be Harvey’s piece No Walls\, Aardvark’s anthem of hope and inclusivity. \nThe Aardvark Jazz Orchestra has been praised as “stunningly beautiful and adventurous” (New York City Jazz Record)\,”captivating” (Jazz Improv)\, “spellbinding” (The Boston Globe)\, and “beyond category” (Downbeat).  JazzTimes wrote\, “Aardvark suggests the best and the brashest of Charles Mingus\, Gil Evans\, George Russell\, and even Frank Zappa.” \nFounded in 1973\, Aardvark has been a force in the international jazz scene for more than 45 years.
