SUMMARY:Creativity in the Wilderness — Hamilton\, MA
DESCRIPTION:Dialogue with cellist\, composer\, and artist-in-context Kendall Ramseur. \n\n\n\nKendall Ramseur\, an award-winning cellist\, composer\, vocalist\, and musical storyteller\, is the artist in context at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary for the 2026-2027 academic year. Moderated by Dr. Wes Vander Lugt\, director of the Leighton Ford Inititive in Theology\, the Arts\, and Gospel Witness at Gordon-Conwell\, this informal gathering provides a unique opportunity to participate in honest dialogue and to influence and learn about a major musical composition. \nAnyone is welcome to register for this free event\, which will take place on the first floor of the Retreat House. Students are welcome to bring lunches. If you are coming from off campus\, there is parking available by the Retreat House\, which is the first building up the hill once you take a left at the fork. Registration is limited to 20\, so please be sure to sign up in advance. \nRegister Today \n\nMore about Kendall: A founding member of Sons of Serendip\, Kendall now performs and creates as a solo artist\, with performances and original works presented on stages around the world and featured across film\, television\, and other media\, including large-scale orchestral commissions that bring together music\, narrative\, and cultural reflection. SUMMARY:Cherish: From Individualism to Intimacy
DESCRIPTION:Over time\, many marriages drift into something more like a shared life than a shared heart – two people managing schedules\, responsibilities\, and routines\, but slowly becoming more independent than connected. The spark fades\, conversations get practical\, and intimacy – both emotional and physical – can feel distant or out of reach. \nYou’re invited to a morning with bestselling author and marriage teacher Gary Thomas as he invites couples into a different vision of marriage – one marked by deeper connection\, renewed intimacy\, and a shared pursuit of God. Drawing from his books Cherish\, Sacred Marriage\, and Sacred Pathways\, Gary will offer practical\, faith-rooted insights to help you move from simply coexisting to truly knowing and delighting in one another.

SUMMARY:Ebenezer Scrooge: A Christmas Carol
DESCRIPTION:New Life Fine Arts’ spiritually uplifting musical adaptation of the 1843 Charles Dickens’ classic tells the story of the tight-fisted curmudgeon\, Ebenezer Scrooge\, and his personal transformation as he is supernaturally confronted with the haunting truth of his wounded past\, his spiritually impoverished present and his woeful future. \n“Ebenezer Scrooge: A Christmas Carol” is directed by Concord composer\, David MacAdam who wrote the adaptation while living in England\, where it was first produced in 1984. \nFor over 25 years\, thousands of NLFA patrons have been given an inspirational glimpse into the true meaning of Christmas and are encouraged to spread their holiday cheer throughout the year. \n“I have always thought of Christmas time\, when it has come round\n— apart from the veneration due to its sacred name and origin\,\nif anything belonging to it can be apart from that —\nas a good time;” \n– Fred\, Scrooge’s nephew in Charles Dickens\, “A Christmas Carol”

SUMMARY:Live theatre with music\, outdoors
DESCRIPTION:The Rev. Rita Powell (Episcopal Chaplain\, Harvard) has written a play\, inspired by the writing of early Christian theologian Evagrius. We Say Various Things About Sleep will be presented outdoors (in Cambridge and in Fitchburg)\, with live music\, on August 23\, 24 and 25. \nHow does the body experience the spiritual? Do we know our own souls? How do we encounter the divine: through music\, text\, movement\, nature? Evagrius was transformed by his time spent in reflection in the wilderness; we seek our own miniature transformations\, spending an evening together in nature and art. \nEnjoy a New England summer evening with theatre and music! Please do come early and bring a picnic. (Also\, bring something to sit on! If you’re joining us in Cambridge\, bring a picnic blanket or a folding chair. If you’re joining us in Fitchburg\, there will be stone seats – but bring padding to sit on!) \nTickets are FREE (though donations are much appreciated!)  You can find all details for We Say Various Things About Sleep at an Eventbrite page here \nPlease join us for a unique experience.

SUMMARY:Celestial City: The Story of John Bunyan and His Pilgrim's Progress
DESCRIPTION:This “auto-bi-allegory” is based on the life of 17th century author\, preacher and tinker John Bunyan and interwoven with his spirit quest story\, “The Pilgrim’s Progress” along with portions of his other writings all penned during his 12 year imprisonment in Bedford England under the Act of Uniformity. \nPerhaps life’s truest metaphor\, Bunyan’s timeless tale tells of one man’s journey from the City of Destruction to the Celestial City. \n“And as I slept\, I dreamed a dream.” Once there was scarcely a home in England where these words would not be recognized as a fragment of the opening lines of the world’s best-selling spiritual quest story\, “The Pilgrim’s Progress.” \nHailed as “the ancestor to the English novel\,” “The Pilgrim’s Progress” has never been out of print. For more than 250 out of its 335+ years in publication\, it has been the world’s best-selling book\, next to the Bible. It has been translated into more than 200 languages. It is the story of Everyman\, embraced by people of all nations. \nJohn Bunyan was a prisoner of conscience for 12 years in a cold\, dirty jail in Bedford\, England. But his imagination was not held captive. He writes an unforgettable allegorical journey from “The City of Destruction” (this world) to the “Celestial City” (that which is to come). \nThis musical adaptation from New Life Fine Arts is written and directed by David MacAdam and features 37 actors/singers/dancers ready to take you on the journey of a lifetime. It’s all here- the Hill Difficulty\, Palace Beautiful\, Vanity Fair\, mountaintop exhilarations\, valleys of humiliation\, dungeons of despair and the unpredictable twists and turns on what proves to be the dangerous road of life.
