SUMMARY:Looking Back to Move Forward: Stories from the Boston Sankofa Journey
DESCRIPTION:Join us as our Boston Sankofa Journey members reflect on nine months of exploring Boston’s historical landmarks tied to the legacy of slavery\, the Black freedom movement\, and the role of churches in both supporting and resisting slavery. Through personal stories and creative storytelling\, they will share transformative moments and how they are carrying these experiences forward.\n\nThis event invites you to engage in a journey of truth-telling\, healing\, and justice\, connecting our narratives to Boston’s local history. Recognizing that many other leaders are engaged in similar work within their institutions\, we’ll also open a dialogue on how we might strengthen the collective movement toward racial equity\, justice and repair in our city. \nThis gathering will take place at the Historic Myrtle Baptist Church\, a hub for social justice and civil rights advocacy and a cornerstone of Newton’s African American community. You are welcome to come early to explore the physical displays where they have catalogued their history. \nSankofa\, a Ghanaian term meaning “to learn from the past to inform the future\,” inspires this journey. Come listen\, share\, and be part of this meaningful conversation and action-taking at this influential moment in our city and country. \n\nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:Route One Ministry - Boston Prayer Walk
DESCRIPTION:Route One Ministry needs you! \nRoute One believes every woman has inherent value\, and exploitation of any type is wrong\, oppressive\, and needs to be abolished. We believe that each woman is the expert on her journey; our role is to listen and navigate the road together. Each week our outreach teams in Springfield and Worcester reach 40 exploited women by entering strip clubs and building relationships with the women who work there.  And we are looking to start a team right here in Boston! \nWe will be launching our Boston Prayer Walk Team in March! \nWhat is a Prayer Walk\, you ask? Well\, we here at Route One believe that prayer is powerful!  Before we step foot into a club\, we cover the club\, the dancers\, and ourselves in prayer for months as we prepare for entry and spiritual battle.  You can play a vital part in this battle! \nWe need volunteers to come beside us the first three Mondays of every month as we take this step in faith.  Women and men can both partake in the Prayer Walk; but please keep in mind\, only women can choose to continue once we are inside the club(s).  Starting March 3rd\, we will meet in the lobby of 131 Dartmouth Street in Boston.  We will open the night with prayer and a short devotional before taking the train two stops over to Chinatown.  From there\, we will pray in a group before we walk past the clubs and after we walk past – and silently to ourselves as we walk past. \nI would love to touch base with anyone who has any questions via phone\, Zoom\, or even over coffee!  If you are a pastor or leader within your church\, we are also willing to come and speak briefly to your congregation during or after church! \nDebbie Caraballo – Director of Outreach (debbie@lovedbyrouteone.org)

SUMMARY:Step into Black History: Footsoldiers
DESCRIPTION:How Everyday People from the Civil Rights Movement Continue to Inspire & Inform Anti-racist Action Today\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Black Freedom Movement of the 1950’s and 60’s called upon everyday people to take a stand against racism. As folks answered this call\, they became known as foot soldiers and\, collectively\, their actions contributed to the success of the movement \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn June 2024\, The Race & Christian Community Initiative (RCCI) convened 9 people from Boston to embark on a Southern Civil Rights Pilgrimage where we had the opportunity to meet with foot soldiers. Courageous Conversations Toward Racial Justice has invited some of these local pilgrims to share how their encounters with foot soldiers informed their understanding of activism and inspire them to take action today. The framing and introduction for this panel will be offered by John Williams\, Executive Director of the Center for Restorative Justice (CFRJ). The CFRJ hosts these Southern Civil Right Pilgrimages and will share about how you could participate in such an experience this summer or beyond. \nPlease RSVP HERE – Zoom link will be provided after RSVP.

SUMMARY:Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2025
DESCRIPTION:The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is an international initiative where Christians worldwide are reminded of Jesus’ prayer for his disciples that “they may be one so that the world may believe” (John 17:21). Locally\, UniteBoston coordinates evening collaborative gatherings of fellowship\, prayer and worship from January 18-25 annually. \nThis Year’s Theme: In 2025\, Christians mark the 1\,700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council at Nicaea\, where key doctrinal disputes about the Trinity and the nature of Christ were resolved\, resulting in the Nicene Creed—a foundational statement of Christian faith and unity. The Nicene Creed is the Christian “symbol” of agreed doctrine and also the statement of faith for UniteBoston. This commemoration invites Christians to celebrate what unites them through the Creed while reflecting on the divisions that still persist today. \n \n\n\n \n\n\nClick above to watch a reflection on the significance of the Nicene Creed from Dr. Elizabeth M. Woodard\, Catholic theologian\, musician\, author\, speaker\, spiritual director\, and ecumenist. She is a member of our Christian unity cohort and considers her vocation as bringing people to God and to each other. \n \n\n\n\n\n\nMark Your Calendars – You are invited to mark your calendars and plan to attend the evening gatherings! In this time of Epiphany\, we encourage you to receive the manifestation of Jesus Christ through those of different denominations\, ethnic backgrounds and cultures. Let’s make the most of these opportunities in order to truly be the family of God and serve as the body of Christ in the world. Let’s also pray with our feet – consider how our beliefs can come together in common action and witness. \n\n\n\nSpread the Word – We also appreciate help spreading the word to people in your congregation\, family\, friends\, and neighbors. A personal invitation goes a long way. \n\n\n\nCalling to mind our common commitment to ‘love thy neighbor\,’ may the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity\, January 18-25\, 2025 be full of moments of conversion of heart through our encounters\, so that “all may be one.” \n\n\n\nResources for Your Week of Prayer Experience from The Initiative:\nLitany for Christian Unity \nDaily Prayer Guide \nPDF Schedule for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity  \nIntroduction on the Theme from Greymoor Ecumenical & Interreligious Initiative \n\nSchedule for Gatherings in Boston & New England\nSaturday January 18 – Christian Unity Prayer Service \n11:00am to 1:00pm at Noroton Presbyterian Church\, 2011 Post Road\, Darien CT \nJoin pastoral leaders in Connecticut for liturgical prayer using the International Week of Prayer for Christian Unity worship service. \nSunday January 19 – Love Casts Out Fear: An Inauguration Eve Vigil \n5:00 to 7:00pm at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul\, 138 Tremont St. Downtown Boston\, MA 02111 or via the Cathedral’s YouTube Channel \nJoin Episcopal Bishop Julia E. SUMMARY:Looking for A 2BR Apartment & Local Congolese Community to Support A New Refugee Family
DESCRIPTION:Our team from the Neighborhood Church of Dorchester is accompanying a refugee family through the resettlement process with Welcome NST. The family just arrived – a mother and three sons from the Democratic Republic of Congo! \n\n\n\nWe are looking for two areas of support: \n\n\n\n1. We’re looking to connect them with the local Congolese community\, especially anyone who speaks Lingala. Language is a significant barrier\, as they speak Lingala fluently and some French too. We recognize the need and value for co-ethnics from a similar background and who may have traveled a similar journey. Having people that they can feel at home with will be particularly significant in this holiday season. \n\n\n\n2. We are looking for a 2BR unit or apartment available starting in January in the Boston/Lowell area. It must be a separate apartment or unit\, rather than a community living situation. We are praying for an alternative apartment arrangement\, rather than through a realtor. As they have entered the country under refugee status\, it will be difficult for them to meet the basic requirements to secure standard housing due to a lack of references\, credit score\, and proof of income. However they will have around $9\,500 due to a federal grant program. They have some connections in Lowell so we are prayerfully considering having Lowell be their “home base.” \n\n\nWe would appreciate if you would share this with your networks and communities. We have seen how Boston can open our hearts and hands in welcome to our global immigrants and refugees! \n\n\n\nWe look forward to hearing from you – Rev. Kelly can be reached at kelly@uniteboston.com. \n\n \nMigration is an act of courage.Migration is an act of resilience.Migration is an act of bravery.Migration is an act of love.Nothing less.Art by @radicistudios

SUMMARY:German Christmas Service
DESCRIPTION:Hi everyone\,\n\nIn two weeks we are celebrating Christmas\, and Faith Lutheran Church in Cambridge will once again hold our annual Christmas service in German!\n\nSince our own building sadly burned down a year and a half ago we cannot worship there yet\, but one of our sister congregations\, the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Woburn\, generously offered us their building this year\, so we will meet at 60 Forest Park Road in Woburn\, MA\, at 3:00 p.m. on Christmas Eve for our family service in German.\n\nYou are all invited to celebrate this service with us\, and please also invite anyone you know who is from the German-speaking parts of the world\, would like to practice their German\, or is simply interested in German-language traditions! There is plenty of parking and seating\, the building is wheelchair/stroller accessible\, and the service is child-friendly and will take about an hour\, so we will be done with plenty of time until dinner.\n\nPlease contact us with any questions: info@faithcambridge.org\, and see you on Christmas Eve!
