SUMMARY:UB's "Be the Bridge for Boston" Spring Groups
DESCRIPTION:At UniteBoston\, we recognize the need to address the sin of racism and the pervasive inequities that persist in our city and nation. We recognize that justice is not peripheral\, but intrinsic to the gospel\, and Christians should be leading the way in the movement towards racial justice today.  \nLast fall\, UniteBoston launched a “Be the Bridge” Zoom group\, where 28 people engaged in weekly conversation with Latasha Morrison’s “Be the Bridge” curriculum. We have heard that there are at least 9 other Boston-area churches that have utilized racial justice curriculum\, and this spring\, we are seeking to build on this momentum together across churches. The goal for this spring is to help people understand various initiatives that are happening in Greater Boston towards systemic racial justice and to nurture friendships across churches for accountability and support in actively working towards reconciliation\, equity\, and justice in our day-to-day lives. \nWe will be hosting a bimonthly speaker series from February to June with locally-focused resources and speakers who are working in a particular aspect of justice (education\, housing\, incarceration/police reform\, economics) to share with the group. Each session will include a 20-minute presentation\, followed by Q & A\, practical action steps\, and prayer. This speaker series is open to the public for anyone to join (1 hour total) \nFollowing the speaker\, there will be small groups that will meet for 30 minutes with people who have committed to attending the four speaker series talks and meeting at least one other time per month for support and accountability in living out God’s call for racial justice in our day-to-day lives. \nGroup size is approximately 8-10 people with intentional diversity given to age\, race\, gender\, denomination\, etc. We may form themed groups based on different communities where individuals are seeking to implement racial justice (workplace\, church\, family/friends\, school\, neighborhood) \nThe “Be the Bridge for Boston” groups are open to anyone who has done significant introductory racial justice learning/work with Be the Bridge or another program. If you are looking for more of an introductory learning group on racial justice\, email Rev. Kelly (kelly@uniteboston.com) to find out about other introductory groups that are taking place. \nWe are also looking for small group leaders who have experience leading these types of spaces. This is an opportunity to join a team of leaders across churches who are working towards racial justice. You can indicate your interest in this opportunity in the sign-up form. \n \n  We are currently recruiting for participants to join\, as well as a diverse team of leaders for the groups. \nClick here for a PDF summary of the “Be the Bridge for Boston” groups \nClick here to sign up! The last day to sign up is Friday January 29th.

SUMMARY:Be the Bridge for Boston Part 2: Housing Justice
DESCRIPTION:This spring\, UniteBoston is hosting a 5-part speaker series to help people understand various initiatives that are happening in Greater Boston towards systemic racial justice and nurture friendships across churches for accountability and support in actively working towards reconciliation\, equity\, and justice in our day-to-day lives. \nIn this second session\, Traction ministry’s Leslie Moore\, Carla Booker and Laura Mitchell will be addressing the question of the Church’s role in the housing injustice crisis by sharing their stories and experiences. The conversation aims to show real life ways to put theoretical values into action as we are led by God’s Spirit. \nThere is no cost to attend\, but all donations will go to bless our guest speakers. Please join us and help to spread the word! \nClick Here to Register for the Event \nSpeaker Bio: \n\n\nLeslie Moore is a full-time urban missionary who moonlights as a social entrepreneur\, real estate investor and non-profit consultant. At the core\, Leslie is devoted to caring for and bringing hope to members of communities who experience significant challenge\, oppression\, poverty and isolation. Twelve years ago\, Leslie founded and launched a network of houses and individuals who support adults in transition. This network has expanded from the Greater Boston area into Rhode Island. It is a ministry of Central Square Church in Cambridge and goes by the name of Traction. See www.tractionlife.org for more info. \n\n\n\n\nCarla Booker is a leader on the management team of a local nonprofit that serves children in their earliest stages of development who are displaying signs of emerging mental health needs. In this role\, she’s invited into the lives and the sacred stories of both families and supervisees. As a Traction Ministry partner and member of Neighborhood Church of Dorchester\, Carla leads in radically sharing her home with the goal of self-sufficiency and home ownership for those who have been marginalized. Carla brings her deep compassion and boldness of vision to community and political organizing to push back against gentrification and mass incarceration as well as other movements that devalue the contributions and humanity of black and brown people. \n  \n\n\n\nLaura Mitchell serves on staff at Central Square Church in Children’s Ministry and admin support for Traction Ministry. In partnership with Leslie and Carla\, Laura has shared life\, resources and her network of relationships with over 30 people over the past 10 years in the context of community living. She bears witness to God’s miraculous multiplication when we in faith offer our lives and resources to others.

SUMMARY:All Ethnicities Needed for Christian Film
DESCRIPTION:Still Small Theatre is currently casting for a film adaptation of the musical The Diary of Perpetua\, which tells the story of an early North African martyr. We will be shooting the film in modern dress to help raise awareness about the modern persecuted Church\, and we are intentionally building a cast that reflects the face of modern persecution. \nWe are particularly in need of Indian\, Asian\, Black\, Pacific Islander\, and Middle Eastern actors to help us portray the high levels of persecution experienced in many regions of Asia\, Africa\, the Middle East\, and the Indian subcontinent\, but we are also seeking actors of all ethnicities who want to help us tell this story of the global Church. Actors of all experience levels are welcome; there are roles open for principal cast\, supporting cast\, and extras. \nFull information is on our website at https://www.stillsmalltheatre.com/auditions.html — we hope to see you in our inbox!

SUMMARY:A Long Repentance Cohort Group
DESCRIPTION:People talk about issues of race and justice in the United States as issues of ‘justice and injustice.’  Sometimes we launch into debates about ‘the proper role of government.’  But is that the original framework from which these issues were asked and debated? \nThe purpose of A Long Repentance: Exploring Christian Mistakes About Race\, Politics\, and Justice in the United States is to remind our readers that these issues began as Christian heresies.  They were at variance from Christian beliefs prior to colonialism.  Since Christians enacted and institutionalized what we believe to be heretical ideas\, they were very destructive and harmful\, then as now.  And we bear a unique responsibility for them.  As a result\, we believe we must engage in a long repentance.  We must continue to resist the very heresies that we put into motion. \nReading material and sign-up information is online:  https://newhumanityinstitute.wordpress.com/a-long-repentance/. \nMeetings will be 8 one-hour sessions on Zoom\, Saturdays starting March 6th\, 2021.
