SUMMARY:THE DAY BEYOND THE DAWN
DESCRIPTION:This is a post from David Hershey of David’s Tent\, DC:\n“50 Weeks/ 50 States – delegates are coming from each state\, week by week\, in 2018. \nEach state is adopting a week at Davids Tent DC in a relay in the order that they came into the union. \n{ MASSACHUSETTS’ WEEK IS FEB. 5 ~ 11\, 2018.} \nOur full time staff crew in DC have been laboring for this moment when we turn the keys of the tent of David over to the 50 states even more. \nIf the USA will build a sincere and unified 24/7 alter of worship and prayer to Jesus in the midst of our Capitol we will see the nations spiritual climate brighten. God answers prayer. It’s just a Snapple Cap— word of God— fact! All 50 states will feel the impact of the Holy Spirit being hosted in DC. There is no neutral ground. Darkness has to flee when the lights are on!”

SUMMARY:IF:Boston
DESCRIPTION:What IF…\nWhat IF we followed God with perseverance instead of insecurity? At IF:Gathering 2018\, we will look at one of Paul’s letters to Timothy as he reminded him of the power and responsibility of sharing the gospel. We want to give God away in the very places He’s put us\, so we’re going to gather for the purpose of remembering why following God and making disciples matters. We all get tired\, we all wonder if what we’re doing matters\, so IF:Gathering 2018 will be the reminder-—it will be the celebration. The work we’re doing to share the gospel on the earth is worth it and God DOES move through the little things that nobody sees. Join us! \n\nGather the City is busy planning IF:Boston! This event is open to all women\, and we are hoping to include many different communities both in attending and in planning. We can’t wait to all be together in February! \nFind us on Facebook and via email. We will send out periodic updates via email\, so send us an email and ask to be put on our newsletter list.

SUMMARY:The New England City Forum
DESCRIPTION:February 15\, 2018 //  9am-4:30pm  //  Mt. Zion Baptist Church\, Springfield\, MA // Free Event\n \nAbout the Forum \nDiverse leadership teams from key New England cities will gather for a one-day forum on February 15\, prior to Vision New England’s Go Conference (February 16 and 17 in Springfield\, MA). This is the third New England City Forum. Last year’s forum in Worcester had 103 participants from over 19 New England Cities.\nCLICK HERE to view last year’s report.\n\nOur objective is to discover what God is doing in New England cities\, to learn from one another\, and to discern how we can best cooperate with God’s work in the city we serve. \nSchedule:\n8:00am Coffee and Snacks\n9:00am Forum Begins\n* Free lunch is served\n4:30pm Forum Concludes\nNote: The forum is free to attend with ample parking \n  \nProgram Elements \n – Presentations from New England cities which include how God is at work\, current challenges and opportunities\, as well as key learnings\n – Emphasis on (and plenty of time for) dialogue with your city team\n – Developing inter-city and intra-city relationships \n  \nWho should come to the Forum \nThe New England City Forum is designed for participation of diverse teams of 8 – 10 leaders from New England cities. You will sit with your city team\, hear presentations from other cities\, and process what you hear with your team. Experience from last year’s New England City Forum in Worcester\, and from similar forums nationally\, shows that each city has a unique perspective and approach\, but also that we have a lot in common and a lot to learn from each other. The forum will emphasize mutual learning and application to your city. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to learn with city leaders and deepen relationships in your city! \n  \nWhy on February 15 and in Springfield\, MA? \nWe chose February 15 in Springfield to connect with Vision New England’s GO Conference. GO is focused on inspiring\, equipping\, and uniting the body of Christ in our region behind the challenge found in Micah 6:8. What does it look like to Do Justice\, Love Mercy\, and Walk Humbly? Doing justice and loving mercy require action on behalf of the innocent and the guilty. Walking humbly and making disciples are inseparable. Engaging communities\, our region\, and our world requires our combined efforts rooted in love and humility. \nDirections to Mt. Zion Baptist Church \nDownload One Page Flyer

DESCRIPTION:Science and religion are locked in eternal conflict – or so we are told.  Prof. Ian Hutchinson\, professor of nuclear science and engineering at MIT\, disagrees. \nIn a pair of lectures\, Prof. Hutchinson will draw on his own experience as a research scientist and from the history of the relationship between science and religion to demonstrate that\, far from being opposed to one another\, the knowledge we gain from science and faith may complement and benefit one another.  Prof. Hutchinson’s second lecture will explore a case study in cooperation between science and theology from his own work addressing the challenges of sustainable energy. \nThis free event will be held on February 17 from 10am to 3pm (lunch is provided)\, at MIT (Building E51\, Room 345)\, and is sponsored by Boston Fellows and RUF. \nSpace is limited; please RSVP here to reserve your spot!  Contact Nathan Barczi with questions.

SUMMARY:Disunity in Christ Lenten Book Study
DESCRIPTION:From February 21st to March 28th\, we are going to have a 6 week Lenten Study on the book titled: Disunity in Christ: Uncovering the Hidden Forces that Keep Us Apart. \nThis will take place on Wednesday nights at 7:30 pm\, following community dinner. \nDuring this Lenten season of reflection\, we will explore the deep and important realities which work to keep the body of Christ divided. Lent provides a built in time for introspection and this particular book asks us to reflect on issues of division within the\nChristian community and abroad. \n“Despite Jesus’ prayer that all Christians “be one\,” divisions have been epidemic in the body of Christ from the beginning to the present. We cluster in theological groups\, gender groups\, age groups\, ethnic groups\, educational and economic groups. We criticize freely those who disagree with us\, don’t look like us\, don’t act like us and don’t even like what we\nlike. Though we may think we know why this happens . . . in this eyeopening book\, learn the hidden reasons behind conflict and divisions.” \nYou may purchase the book\, or if you would like the church to provide you a\nbook contact Pastor Ashlee at revashlee@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Loving and Listening: Theology Students Breaking Bread Together
DESCRIPTION:As future clergy\, scholars and community leaders\, theology students in Boston will need to learn to speak across deep divides of faith and spirituality. “Loving and Listening” is a series of conversations this Lent in which people from different traditions get to know one another and hear one another’s stories\, learning to come together as people\, and not as political or theological adversaries. We often focus on what separates us\, but might there be more in common that we first think? \nThis event is open to all students studying theology in Boston. Contact Kelly Steinhaus (ksteinha@bu.edu) for more information or to RSVP.

SUMMARY:Central Boston Hospitality and Ushering Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Sunday March 4\,\n12:30 – 2:30 pm\, (lunch provided)\nArlington Street Church\, Boston\n\n\n\nRSVP by 2/28/18 \n\nThis workshop will focus in on the unique ministry ushers and greeters do\, in light of the ever shifting world we live in – a world of uncertainties and opportunities.  We will gather on March 4 for this Multi-Congregational Hospitality and Ushering Workshop with ushers from other Central Boston congregations to share best practices\, and specifically focus on the need to strike that critical balance of being radically welcoming\, and providers of safe sanctuary. Regarding the latter\, we are all too aware these days that we need to be mindful\, aware\, and prepared to respond to situations that might arise outside of the “norm” of a Sunday morning (from unexpected disturbances to more serious emergencies). In coming together at this workshop\, we hope to garner some collective wisdom and practices that can help us find that balance of being welcoming and safe.

SUMMARY:Hip Hop and Boston Church Planting
DESCRIPTION:Join us for “Should Hip Hop and church planting get more teamed up in Greater Boston?” on Saturday March 10th at 10am at the Emmanuel Gospel Center\, led by Caleb McCoy and Marc Auguste. \nHip hop started at a house party in the Bronx as a way for the DJ to keep the party going.  It evolved into a multifaceted culture that has now become mainstream in America and is taught at several schools and universities including Harvard.\n\nCan the church recognize this phenomenon\, and better yet\, use it for the advancement of the gospel?  Emmett Price\, who planted a church in Allston and is Dean of the Chapel and the Executive Director of the Institute for the Study of the Black Christian Experience at Gordon-Conwell Seminary\, explains some of this in his “Hip Hop Culture” and “The Black Church and Hip Hop Culture: Toward Bridging the Generational Divide.”\n\nCan a Christ-centered Hip Hop ministry impact church planting?  Caleb and Marc come with a passion for hip hop\, the city of Boston and the gospel.  They are currently engaged in using hip hop to preach the gospel\, reach people for Jesus and multiply church planting.\n\nShould and can hip hop be part of your church planting planning and doing?  Let’s talk about it on March 10 as we meet at the Emmanuel Gospel Center\, 2 San Juan St\, Boston 02118. Do you know someone you should engage to come\, maybe a younger church planting thinker comes to your mind?
