SUMMARY:2019 Spirituality and Justice Award
DESCRIPTION:Cooperative Metropolitan Ministries’ President to Receive 2019 Spirituality & Justice Award \nThe Rev. Dr. David Killian\, who served as a pastor in Boston\, Brookline\, Watertown\, and Newton\, will receive the 2019 Spirituality and Justice Award on Sunday\, April 28 during the 10:30 am Holy Eucharist at All Saints Parish\, 1773 Beacon Street in Brookline. The award is given each year to a person whose deep spirituality is expressed in work for social justice. The Award was given over the years to Bishop Desmond Tutu\, Marian Wright Edelman\, and Dr. Peter Farmer. As the second-longest serving rector in the 125-year history of All Saints Parish from 1992 to 2012\, David established the Ruah Interfaith Spirituality Institute that organized lectures\, seminars and retreats that attracted Christians\, Jews\, Muslims\, Hindus\, Buddhists and others to deepen their own spirituality and encounter spiritual practices in faiths other than their own. David’s faith in Jesus grounds his daily prayer and motivates him to love his neighbor as himself and work for justice for all of God’s children. \nAs President of the Brookline Interfaith Clergy Association he worked with spiritual leaders of all faiths on issues of social justice. He led All Saints Parish to participate in the Greater Boston Interfaith Organization (GBIO) to work for racial and economic justice. He served congregations in Washington\, D.C.\, Columbus\, Ohio\, Toronto\, Canada\, Grand Rapids\, Michigan\, Boston’s Paulist Center\, Dover\, Watertown\, and Marblehead\, and currently is the Priest at St. John’s Church in Newton. He is President of the Board of the Massachusetts Bible Society\, founded in 1809 to give Bibles to congregations\, hospitals\, and prisons\, and to promote biblical literacy. \nIn 2010 the Ruah Spirituality Institute merged with Cooperative Metropolitan Ministries (CMM)\, where David today is president of the Board. CMM\, established in 1966\, is the oldest interfaith social justice organization in the greater Boston area. CMM works to reduce youth violence in crime-prone communities\, promote affordable housing in Boston and provide leadership training for youth and adults of different faiths. David has designated CMM to receive the cash gift of $500 associated with this award. All are invited to this celebration on Sunday\, April 28\, at 10:30 am at All Saints Parish\, 1773 Beacon Street in Brookline. A reception will follow the worship service. \nFor more information\, please click here http://allsaintsbrookline.org/spirituality-justice-award/ \n

SUMMARY:Prayer for Colleges and Universities
DESCRIPTION:Hey good people\, \nWe’re hoping you can join us for an evening of prayer for New England colleges and universities on Tuesday\, April 30\, 2019! \nJ. Edwin Orr (1912-1987)—an absolute legend in the field of spiritual awakening—once put it like this: “When God intends to move\, He sets his people praying…” \nAnd truly\, something very special is happening in the place of prayer for colleges and universities right now: \n\nFor the first time EVER\, on February 28\, 2019\, all 4\,945 colleges and universities in the United States were adopted in prayer on the Collegiate Day of Prayer.\nInterVarsity and Cru—in collaboration with more than 40 other collegiate ministries—are partnering together to prayer walk EveryCampus in the US in 2019.\nA national leader of one of the largest campus ministries in the US recently said\, “In 37 years of collegiate ministry\, I’ve never seen the kind of unity I am seeing now.”\nHere in the Boston area\, a group of 25 of us gathered to pray on the recent Collegiate Day of Prayer—16 different organizations\, churches\, and campus reps took part\, and 46 campus prayer walks were committed to this semester!\n\nIn response to all of this\, we think it’d be awesome to prayer walk any and every campus we can this month\, and then gather and pray for our colleges and universities together on April 30\, 2019—here are the details: \nWHAT? \nA gathering to pray for our New England colleges and universities. We’ll worship\, we’ll pray\, and we’ll take time to share stories from recent prayer walks! \nWHERE? \nThe gathering will be hosted at Church of the Cross at 105 Jersey St.\, Boston\, MA 02215—right in the heart of the Fenway. \nWHEN? \nTuesday—30 April 2019—8:00pm-9:30pm. \nWHO SHOULD COME? \nYOU—and any other students and professors and campus fellowships and parents and pastors and churches and others who want to pray for colleges and universities in Boston and New England. \nWHO IS HOSTING THE GATHERING? \nA few campus ministers—Sherami Hinders with InterVarsity\, Ryan Ruffing with CCO\, Trent Sheppard with Alpha\, and hopefully Liz Kealy with CRU if she can make it! \nWHY SHOULD I TAKE TIME TO DO THIS? \nBecause we believe King Jesus is up to something brave and beautiful on campuses right now…\nand we think it’d bring joy to God’s heart if we conspire in prayer together…\nlike that passage in John 17:20-23 says 🙂 \nPlease let us know if you can make it—hope to see you on Tuesday\, April 30\, at 8pm! \nSherami\, Ryan\, and Trent \nP.S. You definitely don’t have to have already participated in a prayer walk to join the gathering on April 30—but if you’d like to prayer walk a campus in advance\, then feel free to find a campus (or five!) and a prayer guide at everycampus.com.

SUMMARY:Healers of the Line: Recognizing & Healing Inherited Trauma
DESCRIPTION: Healers of the Line: Recognizing & Healing Inherited Trauma \nTHURSDAY 5/9 at 6:00 PM starting with dinner; FREE and CHILD CARE PROVIDED \nCory Johnson Program for Post-Traumatic Healing \nWe now know that profound suffering can cause changes to genetic expression\, potentially leading to someone in a future generation experiencing the symptoms of a trauma (wound) they didn’t actually experience. Effectively\, we are connected across generations through our wounds. Moreover\, the consequences of the suffering we experience can cause ripple effects to those we live with and around\, including our communities. There is much to learn and understand about these inherited traumas (wounds)\, including how we can address them now and become ‘Healers of the Line’ so that they don’t continue forward into future generations.\nTHIS NIGHT WILL FOCUS ON  A WAY TO CONSIDER YOUR OWN ANCESTRAL HISTORY AND HOW TO WORK WITH A MODEL ADDRESSING INHERITED TRAUMA\nPresented by Colleen Sharka\, LMHC\, Director\, Cory Johnson Program for Post-Traumatic Healing.

SUMMARY:East Coast Holiness Summit
DESCRIPTION:Holiness as an incarnational representation of God’s love: \nA fusion of divinity and humanity addressing human needs in community. \nAs a holiness people\, the overall goal for this Holiness Summit is to invite and challenge all participants to consider significant and specific topics/issues in light of God’s calling of his people to be holy. What does holiness have to say about how we enter into\, interact with\, “fix”\, and talk about these things? While talking is necessary\, we have a particular desire to provide Word-meets-flesh opportunities to actually go home and go beyond thinking and talking\, to holy action. \nWe have no goal to “solve” these things for people at the Summit. In fact\, this is at the heart of what we’re trying to do: While many have positions or conclusions about doctrinal stances regarding sexuality\, immigration\, incarceration\, and racial harmony\, it is our hope to create an atmosphere of exploration and conversation. It’s likely – and our hope – that  participants at the Summit will be diverse in many ways in the things of culture\, race\, gender\, generation\, and theology. As such\, we are attempting to frame these things in grace-full ways by which people are able to think openly instead of being dismissed categorically. We’ve asked our workshop leaders to present a lot of questions\, prompts for further consideration and action\, including tangible opportunities by which churches can return home and begin the work of ministry even while they may not “have it all figured out.” \nWe hope to receive teaching as from Jesus himself: in the form of questions\, stories\, and in the lives of real people. \nFor more information or to register\, click here.
