SUMMARY:Northfield Student Conference
DESCRIPTION:In 1886\, 251 young men gathered for the first Northfield Student Conference. At the end of the conference\, God had supernaturally broken in. 100 of the students committed themselves to world missions and what became known as the Student Volunteer Missions Movement was born. In a generation\, this movement sent 20\,000 missionaries overseas. Their watchword\, “the evangelization of the world in this generation”\, was a cry to fulfill the Great Commission in their lifetimes. \nJoin us for 5 days of encountering Jesus and being moved by His heart for the lost on your campus and the nations of the earth. We want to create space\, away from the busyness of life\, to meet with God and discover your God-given passions and how you can use them for His glory! \nOur time together will be full of corporate worship\, teaching\, ministry\, small groups\, food\, and fun! All of this will be aimed at falling in love with Jesus in a fresh way and preparing you to enter into the coming school year with increased faith in how God can move on your campus! \nCheck out this video:

SUMMARY:Theology on Tap: On Leisure
DESCRIPTION:The Church of the Advent’s Theology on Tap returns\non Tuesday\, July 31 at 7 p.m.\nin MAST’ Restaurant and Drinkery\nThe Lower Bar\n45 Province Street\, Boston\, MA 02108\n\n“And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day\, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made” (Genesis 2:2-3 [KJV]).\n\n“But the Gods\, taking pity on mankind\, born to work\, laid down the succession of recurring Feasts to restore them from their fatigue\, and gave them the Muses\, and Apollo their leader\, and Dionysus\, as companions in their Feasts\, so that nourishing themselves in festive companionship with the Gods\, they should again stand upright and erect.” (Plato\, Laws\, 353 C-D)\n\n… As modernity gradually extended an economic logic into more and more areas of life\, in the mid-20th century several philosophers responded by articulating defenses of leisure\, understood in the tradition of its classical roots as the foundation of what today we call the liberal arts — those arts and studies suitable to freedom\, and pursued as ends in themselves rather than to serve any utilitarian purpose.\n\n… This talk examines one of these arguments as framed by the philosopher Joseph Pieper and presented in the slim volume entitled “Leisure: The Basis of Culture.” In this essay\, Pieper discusses the dangers of acceding to the modern view that the concept of labor can be extended to encompass the highest reaches of culture\, and\, drawing on his own Christianity\, he traces his defense of this high culture that he sees as the fruit of all noble civilizations to its etymological roots in the cultus\, that is\, in the realm of religious faith.\n\n… Come\, then\, for an evening of leisure in this classical sense\, as we consider the wisdom of a time set aside for the higher things of life\, most particularly the divine.

SUMMARY:Churches Praying Together
DESCRIPTION:In Acts 16:13\, the physician Luke tells of his and Paul’s time in Philippi.  He writes\, “And on the Sabbath day we went outside the gate to the riverside\, where we supposed there was a place of prayer\, and we sat down and spoke to the women who had come together.” There they encountered Lydia and the church in Philippi was born shortly thereafter!  We too are praying for great things to be born in the greater Boston area. \nOn Friday\, August 17th from 7 – 9 PM\, eight congregations (Abundant Grace\, Antioch Waltham/Brighton\, City\, Destiny Life Center\, Journey\, Newton Covenant\, Ruggles\, and Symphony) will gather by the Charles River at Herter Park Amphitheater (1175 Soldiers Field Road\, Boston) to pray for God’s kingdom to come and God’s will to be done in Boston just as it is done in heaven. \nPlease spread the word and invite your friends!  #churchesprayingtogether

SUMMARY:LIFT Ministries' 12 Year Anniversary
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this special night as we celebrate 12 years of ministry with LIFT! LIFT Ministries is a Catholic organization that brings all people together to worship of our Eucharistic Lord. We blend contemporary worship music which speaks to the heart with the ancient tradition of Eucharistic Adoration which speaks to our souls and brings a deep sense of peace.\n\nThis OUTDOOR event will be held at the outdoor chapel at LaSalette Shrine in Attleboro\, MA. We’ll start with Mass at 4pm followed by a BBQ and then LIFT at 7pm. If the weather is bad\, the event will be held in the Welcome Center Hall. Come early and take advantage of all that the Shrine has to offer. This event is FREE to attend and open to ALL AGES!\n\n\n\nIf you would like to participate in the BBQ\, we will be charging $15 per person.  We need to get the most accurate count possible so the caterers will have enough food for everyone.  It would be a HUGE help to us if you could purchase your tickets ahead of time so we know how many people to expect.  You can buy your tickets online at our website here.  There will be a limited number of tickets available onsite on the day of the event but these will be first-come first-served. \n\nCome join in worship with us as we celebrate and give thanks for all that the Lord has done these past 12 years!

SUMMARY:Boston Christian Entrepreneur Gathering
DESCRIPTION:**Space is limited! RSVP today!** \nJoin us for a morning of prayer\, devotions\, and sharing. We’ll have large group discussion and reflections\, and will break into smaller groups for each person to share about challenges affecting their business in order to receive and give advice. \nThis month\, we’ll hear from Mike Moise\, of MLM Accounting Solutions\, a CPA passionate about serving God and others through his business.  He will share about the lessons learned as he expands a sole proprietorship while also working full-time.  We’re honored to have Mike as part of the Boston Christian Entrepreneur Gathering leadership team and are looking forward to learning from him!  Read more about his story below. \nLight breakfast will be served at 10. Looking forward to seeing you then! \n******************************************* \nMike Moise is a Haitian-American hailing from Massachusetts. Raised in a faith-based home\, and driven by the entrepreneurial mindset of his immigrant parents\, Mike always desired to explore what it means to pursue “business” and “servanthood”.  With over a decade working with and building various ministries\, and non-profits\, Mike’s experiences are varied and are simply an expression of his desire to be a business professional that serves and builds his community.  Now\, as an Certified Public Accountant\, his business background includes working with large multi-national clients at Ernst & Young\, a global public accounting firm\, as well as gaining financial reporting and accounting experience in the engineering and biotechnology industries.   Mike also supports small businesses as a sole practitioner in the areas of entity structuring\, taxation\, and systems implementations.   Through both his corporate and entrepreneurial endeavors\, Mike has discovered that at the heart of being a businessman is a calling to serve and connect people to the solutions they need. \nEvent FAQs \nIs there a cost to attend on Saturday September 15th? \nNo. The event is free\, but donations are welcome to cover the cost of the event. \nWhat are my transport/parking options getting to the event? \nThe office is at 584 Columbia Road (Columbia and Dudley St in Uphams Corner\, Dorchester).
