SUMMARY:Make a Difference in Allston Brighton!
DESCRIPTION:The Sisters of Saint Joseph of Boston Present \n“Make a Difference in Allston/Brighton Day” \nAn evening to honor Allston Brighton volunteers as we present many local organizations in need of more help. Come and mingle. Find out. Sign up. Become a volunteer.      \n637 Cambridge Street Brighton\, MA October 29\, 2018 6:15 P.M.-8 P.M. The Sisters of   Saint Joseph of Boston are pleased to host the 2018 “Make a Difference in Allston/Brighton” at the Motherhouse in Brighton. This day will serve two distinct purposes: to honor the great work of active volunteers in Allston/Brighton and to recruit new volunteers for the 20 different non-profit organizations that will be represented.  Our neighborhood community is always looking for extra helping hands who are willing and able to volunteer time and resources to those in need. Meet and speak with organizations that directly impact our neighborhood through the diverse support they offer to seniors\, immigrants\, families\, women\, and children. There will also be a short program to honor the people who have generously donated their time in service of the community. \n“Our organizations rely on the generosity of volunteers to provide a variety of services to those in need. The ‘Make a Difference’ event is a great way to get connected with these 20 different organizations and like-minded individuals\,” explains Jill Uchiyama\, the director of The Literacy Connection. The Literacy Connection is a ministry started by the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Boston with the goal of providing ESOL tutoring to immigrants in Boston and citizenship prep classes and is one of the organizations that will be represented. These organizations all share the common goal of “loving the dear neighbor without distinction” throughout Allston/Brighton. \nDoors open at 6:15 PM and refreshments will be provided. For more information about this event please contact Jill Uchiyama at jill.uchiyama@csjboston.org or 617-746-2104. \n### \nThe Sisters of St. Joseph of Boston is a religious community of vowed apostolic women with a contemplative stance toward life\, whose mission is to realize the prayer of Christ that all may be one. Their special focus\, their mission\, is to work for unity and reconciliation where there is brokenness\, to help people become whole and holy\, individually and together. Since arriving in Boston in 1873\, they have staffed more than 130 educational institutions\, worked in more than 30 healthcare ministries and participated in more than 85 service ministries within the Archdiocese of Boston. You will meet Sisters of St. Joseph of Boston in schools\, parishes\, hospitals\, nursing homes\, retreat\, and campus ministry centers\, refugee services\, literacy programs\, shelters\, food pantries\, and more. In community and prayerful contemplation\, they listen to the Spirit and move always toward profound love of God and love of neighbor without distinction. For more information visit www.csjboston.org. \n

SUMMARY:Anglo-Catholic Roots II: Is Christ Divided? Full Visible Unity
DESCRIPTION:We are glad to announce and invite you to our second annual conference\, \nco-sponsored by The Living Church Institute: \n“Anglo-Catholic Roots II: Is Christ Divided? Full Visible Unity” \nAs the Anglican Communion prepares for Lambeth in 2020\, leaders are asking about Church unity with renewed urgency but often with little understanding. Are divisions between churches defensible? Can they be repaired? And where\, exactly\, may unity be found? “Is Christ divided?” (1 Cor. 1:13). \nJoin us at our second Anglo-Catholic Roots conference\, at which we will take up scriptural\, sacramental\, ascetical\, and historical resources for a Catholic understanding of the one Church as Christ’s body across time and space. Special attention paid to the Anglican Communion\, as we prepare for the Lambeth Conference in 2020. \nTalks will take place on November 1 and 2 in Moseley Hall of the church. Please consider spreading the word about this event to everyone who might  be interested: parishioners\, scholars\, seminarians\, and clergy. \nTo buy tickets online please use Eventbrite: tinyurl.com/y8sujmmz.  Remember that tickets are limited\, and last year we had a complete sell-out. Please consider registering for the celebratory banquet after the conference as well. \nFeel free to use the special offer of discounted rooms at the Wyndham Hotel at 5 Blossom St (a 10-minute walk to the church).  Please call the hotel at (877) 999-3223 and refer to “The Church of the Advent Anglo-Catholic Conference.” You can book on-line at tinyurl.com/yahzqayp.  Please be advised that the offer expires on September 14. \nWith any questions about the conference please contact Fr. Jeffrey Hanson at frhanson@theadventboston.org. Please mention in your message if you would like your email address to be added to the mailing list of the conference.

SUMMARY:Abiding in the Community: A Faith Based Response to a Neighborhood in Pain
DESCRIPTION:Abiding in the Community: A Faith Based Response to a Neighborhood in Pain is a conference day on Saturday 11/3/18 to highlight community ‘healing-centered’ support that strives to address the chronic individual and collective impact of trauma. Whether from  community violence\, racism\, structural oppression\, poverty\, addiction\, or various forms of interpersonal abuse\, trauma is at the core of a steadily eroding rupture of an individual’s sense of safety\, meaning in the world\, connection to self and others\, and personal agency. \nThis day is for all people interested in trauma healing and will offer: \n-a profound way of accompanying and remaining with individuals and communities who have experienced trauma and traumatic grief \n-an uncomplicated framework for educating people about trauma and the healing journey \n-an experience of Can We Talk – a program component that offers adults the opportunity to share their stories of trauma\, loss\, hope\, and healing; fostering connection and empowering individuals to take an active role in helping themselves and others heal. \nThe Cory Johnson Program for Post-Traumatic Healing\, led by Rev. Liz Walker with her team at Roxbury Presbyterian Church in Roxbury\, MA\, has been providing community trauma healing services for 4 years. Each week people are invited\, without cost or need for referral and with child care and a meal provided\, to attend program components that address the mind\, body\, and spiritual impacts of trauma. This day is so fortunate to be co-sponsored by the New England regional office of the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS New England). They are interested in helping The Cory Johnson Program connect with people in New England and across the country who would like to learn more about this model. \nThis event is being offered for free due to generous funding! Here is the website for the conference and to register. \nhttps://communitybasedtraumahealingconference.com/

SUMMARY:The Book of Daniel
DESCRIPTION:Written by Lexington Christian Academy theatre director\, Christopher Greco\, The Book of Daniel has uncanny resonance with our current cultural moment.  The familiar episodes of the exile from Judah\, the fiery furnace\, the writing on the wall\, and the lions den expose our struggles with integrity\, saving face\, persecution\, and power politics.  Daniel and his companions were likely teens\, and that’s who you’ll be seeing on the stage\, refusing to bow down to anyone other than the God of the Jews\, and paying an unexpected price for their devotion. \nTickets are available at the door:  $10 adults\, $5 students.

SUMMARY:Uncovering the Truth about Creation
DESCRIPTION:Where did everything come from? The Bible says God is the Creator. But did God create everything in six days like it says in Genesis\, or did He use evolution to create? What about dinosaurs? Did they co-exist with humans\, or did they die out millions of years ago? Genesis provides the answers to these and other origins mysteries. \nLearn about the scientific evidence that supports the Bible at ICR’s Uncovering the Truth about Creation Conference held at Calvary Christian Church in Lynnfield\, Massachusetts.

In recent years\, he has dovetailed that background with the vibrant TED Talk movement and its “ideas worth spreading.” Visit Devin’s LinkedIn profile\, to learn more. \nDevin will share about how his relationship with God led him to start this business and the ways in which God is working in and through MyTedTalk.  He’ll talk more specifically about the questions some of you have asked about ways to finance early-stage businesses and how to use marketing to expand your customer base. \nLight breakfast will be served at 10.  Looking forward to seeing you then! \n******************************************* \nEvent FAQs \nIs there a cost to attend on Saturday November 17th? \nNo. The event is free\, but donations are welcome to cover the cost of the event. \nWhat are my transport/parking options getting to the event? \nThe office is at 584 Columbia Road (Columbia and Dudley St in Uphams Corner\, Dorchester). You’ll see balloons outside. \nPublic parking is available in the parking lot behind CVS (778 Dudley Street) between Belden Street and Ramsey Street. \nFollow the link below for a map:\nhttps://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=zTpgJXIOeeJE.kuI3Wlp6bWJA \nHow can I contact the organizer with any questions? \nContact Betsy Cowan for more information: betsymcowan@gmail.com \nClick here to RSVP
