SUMMARY:Solidarity is Sacred: Good Friday Public Worship & Action for Immigration Justice
DESCRIPTION:This Good Friday\, April 3rd at 4PM\, in downtown Boston\, Christians and people of faith will gather in prayer and protest in solidarity with our immigrant neighbors.   \nImmigration enforcement tactics have long threatened the safety of our neighbors. But in this moment of authoritarian breakthrough\, state violence is intensifying\, causing fear and outrage in our communities.  \nDuring Holy Week\, Christians remember Jesus’ death as a confrontation with – and triumph over – the powers of evil. Jesus’s crucifixion was God’s ultimate act of solidarity with persecuted people — an act that calls us into radical solidarity with the crucified people of today. Through story\, ritual and song\, we will lament the violence against our immigrant neighbors\, demand the abolition of ICE\, and hear again God’s call to loose the bonds of injustice and set every captive free (Isaiah 58:6).  \nThis initiative is hosted by various organizations devoted to reclaiming the story of Good Friday to stand with our immigrant friends and neighbors. Whatever the case may be\, this is something we hear & not just in the younger generations! When someone shares this with us\, we don’t actually get discouraged\, but hopeful. Hopeful\, because we recognize the longing in them for a vulnerable relationship with God & one another that opens the door for true community. We believe one of the ways forward is through listening. But not just any listening\, true contemplative & transformational listening that builds change & community. 10 years ago\, we created our Transformational Listening: Soul Care Companions course with this in mind. Today it holds up to the test of time. Listening to God & one another makes a lasting difference. We can be contemplatives in action creating change in our inner lives with Christ & in our communities as we love one another. At church\, when we sing\, sing a certain way\, fund and defund singing\, or argue about singing\, we’re conveying something about who we are or want to be. \nIn this presentation\, Dr. Carolynne Hitter Brown will share her research on ways the Black Church has historically relied on music to navigate challenging waters and changing courses\, resist racist forces without and power structures within\, and formulate an authentic and Christ-centered community identity. Our weekly worship service is at\n4pm each Sundays at First Parish Dorchester\, however we are currently exploring options to\nmove to a morning service time.\n– Lead and develop a volunteer worship team who help lead each Sunday\n– Have creative oversight over all musical and lyrical arrangements\n– Organize and lead rehearsals of the music team\n– Manage the scheduling of rotations for music ministry volunteers\n– Collaborate with the Lead Pastor in choosing songs\n– Provide improvisational transition music during services\n– Prepare slides for Sunday services\n– Lead music for additional special events\, such as Good Friday\, Christmas Eve\, etc.\n– Order music and maintain music library and ensure compliance with CCLI copyright laws.\n– Attend weekly staff meetings \nQualifications:\n– Have experienced the grace of Jesus Christ in your own life and responded in faith\n– Be willing to make CTK Dorchester your church home by becoming a communing member\n– Gifted in musical ability vocally or instrumentally (piano or guitar preferred)\n– Ability to lead a congregation in musical worship both solo or with a team.\n– Three to five years experience in leading musical worship\n– Residing in\, or willingness to relocate to\, the neighborhood of Dorchester or surrounding\ncommunities is strongly preferred
