SUMMARY:“Where do we go from here?” A Panel Discussion of Now Generation Ministers
DESCRIPTION:As the next generations get set to inherit the world and Church we have created\, what do they see as the biggest concerns and how do they plan to address them?  For those in ministry in the current generation(s)\, this is an opportunity to learn ways we can support the Church of the future by acting now.  Questions from non-panelists (via chat) are planned. Featured panelists include Christian Grant\, Katie Lamirato\, Andrea St. Louis\, Fugi Acevedo and Jane Kyong Chun with Reverend David Wright as the moderator. Zoom link here. \nThis event is part of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. More info for the whole week’s events can be found here.  \n\nPanelist Bios: \n\nChristian Grant: Christian Grant grew up in Mattapan for most of his life and currently lives in Quincy\, MA. He attended Northpoint Bible College and got his undergrad in Biblical Theology and Youth and Family Ministry. In 2015\, he started working at the Boston Project Ministries as a Youth Program Manager until 2021. He now works full-time with Young Life as an Area Director to help raise new leaders and develop new ministries to connect with young people in Boston. He is married to his lovely wife Mary Grant who works with him as a Direct Ministry Staff for Young Life. \n\n\n\nKatie Lamirato: Katie is a 26-year-old law student at Northeastern. Originally from Colorado\, she loves skiing\, mountains\, and honestly all things outdoors. She came to Boston in 2014 to attend Boston College and ended up staying here. She thinks chocolate and peanut butter is a glorious food combination and being fed is her primary love language. Her church family is Antioch Roxbury\, a local house church network. \n\n\n\nAndrea St. Louis: Andrea is a woman on a journey to know God’s heart\, and to encourage\, empower\, equip\, and educate women in the pursuit of purpose. She is a recent graduate of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary (CUME Boston)\, with a Master of Arts in Urban Ministry Leadership. She also holds an MBA in Entrepreneurial Thinking & Innovative Practices from Bay Path University in Longmeadow\, MA\, and a Bachelor of Science in Management from the University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford\, CT. Andrea is the Owner of StepIn2Purpose Consulting where she supports coaching clients in learning to “shed the shell” and pursue purpose-filled goals and friendships. She is also the Owner of The Tatted Professionals\, providing writing and business consulting services to help individuals and entrepreneurs create their professional presence. In addition to her entrepreneurial pursuits\, Andrea is an Adjunct Professor\, Author\, workshop facilitator\, speaker\, and book club host. She is privileged to share her life’s journey with her husband\, Matthew\, and their two beautiful boys. \n\n\n\nJane Kyong Chung: Born and raised in the New York City area\, Jane was called to New England after God changed her life during college. She received her M.Div from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary and currently serves as the English Congregation’s pastor at North Boston Korean United Methodist Church in Andover\, MA. Jane also serves as pastoral staff on ARISE Ministries\, a regional non-profit that contends for the revival of the second generation of the Korean Church of New England. Her prayer is that the next generation would encounter the life-changing Jesus that set her free. Jane is also the research specialist for the Thriving Congregations Team at the Center for Urban Ministerial Education in Roxbury. She is passionate about how research can be used to build up the Church (with emphasis on immigrant churches and churches of color) by better informing its future. In her free time\, she loves jazz in vinyl form\, coffee\, interior design\, and basketball. \n\n\n\nFugi Acevedo: Fugi is a Boston-born poet and visual creative who drives to create art from a place of vulnerability. Along with the arts\, he uses powerlifting to discover mental and physical strength while being actively involved in the community. Fugi is a strong believer that both therapy and having a relationship with God are essential.

SUMMARY:Groups for Spiritual Community and Discipleship in the Workplace
DESCRIPTION:“What Would Happen If You Were Enchanted With Jesus?”  \nThe question above is one that we ask in our small groups because we know just how easy it is to fall into “knowing things about Jesus” instead of having a highly interactive quality of life with Jesus. \nSeeing beyond flimsy mental images of him that don’t affect you in the ways that you’d hope for\, and instead of being truly stunned by what he’s actually capable of doing to you and to others. Becoming invigorated with joy as you realize how powerful he is\, confident that he’s here with you right now\, ready to engage with the difficult thoughts and feelings that you can’t seem to get far enough away from.  \nIf you’ve chosen to be a student of Jesus\, you’re invited to enter a life immersed in the peace and joy of Christ\, but if you’re like many of us\, you’re motivated by the idea of following Jesus\, but then another path comes into view and seems like it’s offering something better only a few minutes later. Most of us have a major problem with maintaining a clear vision of what’s most important\, and beyond that\, actively cultivating the habits that would keep us focused on that vision when something else blocks it from view.  Imagine how it would feel if you were completely unmotivated to hold onto unhealthy thoughts and actions that currently drain your energy\, and instead\, you actively wanted to pour your energy into things that would make a positive difference in your life and in the lives of others around you.  \nIf you’re interested in progressively learning how to become immersed in all of the good things that Jesus wants to give to you\, consider joining one of our discipleship groups happening in/near your workplace. \nStarting in September\, we will meet once every two weeks on a weekday morning at specific locations downtown (as well as on Zoom)\, and while this is a low time commitment on your schedule\, we want these times together to be very encouraging to one another and impactful to making a significant change in our lives. More thorough explanations\, group details\, and thoughts from current group members can be found at  https://www.cruboston.com/workplaceconnect. \nIf this sounds like something you’re curious about\, feel free to email me at todd.humphreys@cru.org

SUMMARY:Renew: A UniteBoston Backyard Concert Series
DESCRIPTION:This summer\, UniteBoston is hosting a series of four backyard concerts throughout the neighborhoods of Boston. This collaborative space invites Christian artists and budding songwriters to share the songs\, poems\, artwork\, and dances that have emerged out of the challenges of this past year. Our hope is that these concerts will restore bonds of friendship\, justice\, and resilience\, bringing renewal to the body of Christ and our surrounding communities. We’ve lamented\, we’ve grieved; now it’s time to come together to rejoice and RENEW. \n1 Peter 5:10 – After you have suffered a little while\, the God of all grace\, who called you into his eternal glory in Christ Jesus\, will himself restore\, establish\, strengthen\, and support you. \nDates & Locations: \nSaturday July 10th | 6:30 to 8:30pm | Dorchester \nThursday July 22nd | 6:30 to 8:30pm | Medford \nSaturday July 31st | 6:30 to 8:30pm | Roxbury \nSunday August 29 | 6:30 to 8:30pm | Dorchester \n \nWe are grateful for friends of UniteBoston who have graciously opened their backyards for us to host these concerts. Because of the limited capacity of these spaces\, we are requiring registration. Click here to register via Eventbrite. After registration\, you will also receive an email with the specific address of the backyard concert. \nAlso: We welcome all artists and creative-types to participate in the open mic portion of the concerts! Click here to sign up to share a song\, spoken word poem\, dance\, or visual artistic piece during the open mic series. We seek to create an environment that is welcoming to people of all skill levels. \nPlease help us to spread the word to colleagues\, friends\, and neighbors – a great way to do this is through the Facebook event. SUMMARY:Covid-19 Faith in the Vaccine Student Ambassador Program
DESCRIPTION:The Hebrew College Miller Center for Interreligious Learning is proud to announce that we will be joining IFYC’s National Student Effort to increase access and trust in the vaccine. In partnership with Turn In. Reach Out.\, We Got Us and The Black Boston Covid-19 Coalition\, we will be coordinating and leading the Covid-19 Faith in the Vaccine Student Ambassador Program targeted towards increasing vaccine access and trust in Boston area communities.  \nOur goal is to compensate community members for investing time and energy into the frontlines work of building the movement towards equity and healing amidst Covid-19. The Faith in the Vaccine initiative incentivizes 28 Students to work as Vaccine Ambassadors\, getting paid $15.00 – $17.50 an hour to contribute 100 hours to work on the effort to get folks vaccinated. Our team includes Boston area nonprofits and coalitions like We Got Us and the Black Boston Covid-19 Coalition that are able to lead our cohort from their position at the front lines of this work. \nThis pandemic has reminded us that no one is safe until everyone is safe. Closing the wound from this pandemic requires that a critical number of us get vaccinated in order to reach herd immunity. We must lift one another up in this journey and encourage one another along this road. The Faith in the Vaccine Student Ambassador program provides supportive structure and scaffolding for Student Ambassadors to make the connections and have the conversations that result in getting more shots into people’s arms. \nHigh-Schoolers\, undergraduates\, graduate students and recent graduates are all eligible to apply. Members of the local Boston community that are already invested in this type of work as a volunteer are highly encouraged to apply. Please see the attached program overview and flyer and apply by May 17th! Email kimbress@bu.edu with any questions\, ideas or potential partnership opportunities.

SUMMARY:Tutors Needed for Local Schools and Afterschool Programs
DESCRIPTION:Even though it feels like the end of the school year is approaching\, there are still many weeks of learning left for students in our area. With the ever-shifting situation in schools regarding remote learning and in-person return of students to classrooms\, the Boston Education Collaborative (BEC) tries to stay up-to-date with our partnering schools and programs regarding their volunteer needs. \n\n\n\nPlease see the attached flyer and help share it out with your friends\, congregation\, and networks. The BEC is still accepting volunteers to help schools and afterschool programs. Remote tutoring is still needed in both spaces. However\, our partnering schools and programs in Boston and Chelsea have been expressing a need for in-person support as well. You can imagine the challenges for teachers and staff to run classes that have to be mindful of social distancing rules and for school teachers to teach to a group of students in person and another group online at the same time. \n\n\n\nWith the last three months\, we would love to do a final push for volunteers to help these teachers and students finish the school year strong and maximize learning time. Please help to share this and consider volunteering too – Click Here to Download a PDF Flyer to Share. \n\n\n\nInterested? \n\nIn-Person Tutoring Information – Click Here\nVirtual/Remote Tutoring Information – Click Here\nAttend an Information Session – Click Here\nTo sign up\, fill out this form

SUMMARY:UB Dialogue Workshop: Skills for Bridging the Divide
DESCRIPTION:Are you dismayed by deep differences in your congregation or its surrounding community\, and the way we seem to speak “at” each other rather than “with” one another? Could you benefit from learning skills to have important conversations with people who believe\, think\, or vote differently than you? While we find ourselves either avoiding difficult conversations or remaining in our own silos and echo chambers\, as Christians\, we are called to live in unity\, honoring diverse perspectives and unique gifts within the Body of Christ (1 Cor. 12:12-26) and loving our enemies (Mt. 5:44). UniteBoston is offering a free\, brief\, virtual workshop introducing dialogue skills for bridging divides that you can implement in your own context. This workshop will be led by Bob Stains\, a worldwide leader in dialogue across difference and conflict transformation. \nThere is no cost to attend\, and all donations will support UniteBoston’s bridge-building ministry. \n Registration via Eventbrite is required – to register\, click here.  \nBob Stains and Shelton Oakley Hersey are also leading a more in-depth\, 2-day “Kingdom Conversations” training with UniteBoston this spring for Christian leaders in the Boston area on April 17 and May 1. Click here to apply for this more in depth 2-day training. Please join us and help to spread the word – Facebook Event Here! \nSpeaker Bio: \nBob Stains has been equipping clergy and lay leaders with the skill-sets and mind-sets of Reflective Structured Dialogue (RSD) for the past 26 years in the US\, Europe and Asia\, having trained more than 30\,000 people world-wide. His workshops are highly rated by participants in both religious and secular settings and he continues to see their learning bear fruit in their communities of faith over many years. Bob heads his own firm and is a Senior Associate at Essential Partners in Cambridge\, formerly the Public Conversations Project and home of RSD. He also brings 10 years of conversation design and facilitation work with the Episcopal Church of the USA and the Archbishop of Canterbury and has worked with many other Christian and Jewish communities small and large throughout his career as a consulting family therapist and as a dialogue practitioner. He is also a Visiting Researcher at the BUSTH Tom Porter Program on Religion and Conflict Transformation where he teaches dialogue to ministers in training\, and adjunct faculty at the Dispute Resolution Institute of the Mitchell-Hamline School of Law in St. Paul\, MN.

SUMMARY:UB's "Be the Bridge for Boston" Spring Groups
DESCRIPTION:At UniteBoston\, we recognize the need to address the sin of racism and the pervasive inequities that persist in our city and nation. We recognize that justice is not peripheral\, but intrinsic to the gospel\, and Christians should be leading the way in the movement towards racial justice today.  \nLast fall\, UniteBoston launched a “Be the Bridge” Zoom group\, where 28 people engaged in weekly conversation with Latasha Morrison’s “Be the Bridge” curriculum. We have heard that there are at least 9 other Boston-area churches that have utilized racial justice curriculum\, and this spring\, we are seeking to build on this momentum together across churches. The goal for this spring is to help people understand various initiatives that are happening in Greater Boston towards systemic racial justice and to nurture friendships across churches for accountability and support in actively working towards reconciliation\, equity\, and justice in our day-to-day lives. \nWe will be hosting a bimonthly speaker series from February to June with locally-focused resources and speakers who are working in a particular aspect of justice (education\, housing\, incarceration/police reform\, economics) to share with the group. Each session will include a 20-minute presentation\, followed by Q & A\, practical action steps\, and prayer. This speaker series is open to the public for anyone to join (1 hour total) \nFollowing the speaker\, there will be small groups that will meet for 30 minutes with people who have committed to attending the four speaker series talks and meeting at least one other time per month for support and accountability in living out God’s call for racial justice in our day-to-day lives. \nGroup size is approximately 8-10 people with intentional diversity given to age\, race\, gender\, denomination\, etc. We may form themed groups based on different communities where individuals are seeking to implement racial justice (workplace\, church\, family/friends\, school\, neighborhood) \nThe “Be the Bridge for Boston” groups are open to anyone who has done significant introductory racial justice learning/work with Be the Bridge or another program. If you are looking for more of an introductory learning group on racial justice\, email Rev. Kelly (kelly@uniteboston.com) to find out about other introductory groups that are taking place. \nWe are also looking for small group leaders who have experience leading these types of spaces. This is an opportunity to join a team of leaders across churches who are working towards racial justice. You can indicate your interest in this opportunity in the sign-up form. \n \n  We are currently recruiting for participants to join\, as well as a diverse team of leaders for the groups. \nClick here for a PDF summary of the “Be the Bridge for Boston” groups \nClick here to sign up! The last day to sign up is Friday January 29th.
