SUMMARY:Good Friday Public Worship & Action for Ceasefire
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Good Friday\, March 29\, at 4PM at Faneuil Hall* Square to make it known: as Christians and people of faith\, we demand a ceasefire now.\n \nGood Friday\, March 29\, 4PM 1 Faneuil Hall* Sq\, Boston\, MA 02109 (map) RSVP at: https://bit.ly/goodfridayaction \nThis Holy Week\, we follow in the steps of Jesus who resisted the forces of violence and oppression even to the point of death on a cross\, and triumphed over them in his resurrection. On Good Friday\, we remember and bear witness to Jesus’ suffering at the hands of the Roman Empire. This prophetic memory calls us to be in solidarity with Palestinians and all peoples who are suffering under occupation and systemic violence. On Good Friday\, we will mourn the lives lost in Gaza\, and take action to ensure this violence ends. \nWe will engage the narrative and symbols of Jesus’ confrontation with—and victory over—violence to demand that our government take this opportunity to confess\, repent\, and repair. We call for an immediate and lasting ceasefire\, unfettered aid to enter Gaza\, an end to unrestricted funding for weapons of war to Israel\, and a release of all hostages and prisoners. \nWe will gather to worship—with preaching\, confession\, song and ritual—and we will take action to proclaim to our city and to our political leaders that the time for a lasting ceasefire is now. We call on people of faith to stand alongside Palestinian Christians in their call to “reject all theologies and interpretations that legitimize the wars of the powerful” and to recognize a “God of the downtrodden and the oppressed\, and a Jesus who rebuked the powerful and lifted up the marginalized.” \nWe are mindful of the history of Christian antisemitic violence during Holy Week\, especially on Good Friday. On this day as we face the cross\, we must reckon with the legacy of violence and colonization\, committed in the name of Christianity\, while we recommit to the liberating path of Jesus\, who confronted empire and proclaimed\, “Blessed are the peacemakers.” \nThe calls for a permanent ceasefire continue to grow\, and the political establishment is finding it harder to ignore the will of people. The Biden administration is pushing for a “temporary truce” that does not take any responsibility for the United States’ role in the destruction of Gaza. We call on our nation’s representatives to live into the values they claim to support. We need a lasting ceasefire now. \nThis action is being planned by a group of clergy and faith leaders\, many of whom are associated with Interfaith Ceasefire in Boston. \nFollow us @interfaithceasefire on instagram and @interfaithcease on X/Twitter. \n\n\n\n*In October of 2023 the Boston City Council voted to change the name of Faneuil Hall which was named for a slave owner and slave trader\, after years of organizing by a coalition to change the name of the hall.

SUMMARY:2024 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity
DESCRIPTION:The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is an international initiative where Christians worldwide are reminded of Jesus’ prayer for his disciples that “they may be one so that the world may believe” (John 17:21). Locally\, UniteBoston coordinates evening collaborative gatherings of fellowship\, prayer and worship from January 18-25 annually.\n\nThis year’s theme\, liturgies\, and prayer guides were developed together by Christian churches from Burkina Faso in western Africa. This year’s theme is based on the text from the Gospel of St Luke: “You shall love the Lord your God … and your neighbor as yourself” (Luke 10:27). In response to the question of who is my neighbor\, Jesus responds with a parable illustrating love extending far beyond the limits expected by the lawyer. It is not shared identities that should prompt us to come to the aid of the other\, but love of our ‘neighbor.’ Here in Boston\, it may be common to relate to one another like Samaritans and Jews\, divided culturally and theologically and living with unfriendly or hostile relationships. However\, Jesus points us to a different way: to engage with those on the “other side” and even understand the situations of one another so intricately that we can ‘pour oil or wine’ on one another’s wounds. Our times of insecurity and fear confront us with a reality where distrust and uncertainty come to the forefront of relationships. This is the challenge of the parable today: to whom am I a neighbour? \nMark Your Calendars – You are invited to mark your calendars and plan to attend the evening gatherings! In this time of Epiphany\, we encourage you to receive the manifestation of Jesus Christ through those of different denominations\, races and cultures. Let’s make the most of these opportunities in order to truly be the family of God and serve as the body of Christ in the world. Let’s also pray with our feet – express love to our neighbors as an act of prayer. \nCommunity Dinner Template – You can use this template for conversation and prayer along this theme with your church or community group! \nSpread the Word – We also appreciate help spreading the word to people in your congregation\, family\, friends\, and neighbors. A personal invitation goes a long way. Calling to mind our common commitment to ‘love thy neighbor\,’ may the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity\, January 18-25\, 2024 be full of moments of conversion of heart through our encounters\, so that “all may be one.” God of welcome\, grant us the grace to risk embracing the stranger\, tending their wounds and standing in solidarity with them. Strengthen our resolve to be kind and merciful and to act towards our sisters and brothers at all times as you do towards us. Lord Jesus\, who prayed that all might be one\, we pray to you for the unity of all Christians\, according to your will\, according to your means. May your Spirit enable us to experience the suffering caused by division\, to see our sin and to hope beyond all hope. Amen. \nSchedule \n\n\n\nLoving Our Unhoused Neighbors: HOME Thursday Night Outreach Thursday January 18\, 5:45 to 7:15pm with optional prep time beforehand and debrief afterwards | Park Street Church\, 1 Park Street\, Downtown Boston \n\n\n\n  Join to serve with Park Street Church’s HOME ministry\, where they welcome 60-100+ unhoused neighbors and other neighbors in need to fellowship meals hosted on Thursday evenings from 5:45-7:15pm and Saturday mornings from 8:30-11am. SUMMARY:UniteBoston Fundraising Party at PKL
DESCRIPTION:Save the Date and join us for UniteBoston’s Fundraising Party at PKL on January 14! \nStart off 2024 with some fun with the UniteBoston community. This year’s fundraiser will be at PKL\, a venue in South Boston where we will have the lounge area to hang out\, play cornhole and shuffleboard\, eat great food\, and hear about what is coming next for UB. Kids are welcome too! \nOur goal is to raise $15\,000 by January 14\, 2023 to support the allocation of resources to refine our strategic planning process\, explore available resources related to barriers to unity\, evaluate gaps\, and collaborate with local partners. Plus\, for this year’s fundraiser\, UB is providing a matching grant up to $5\,000 for the Race & Christian Community Initiative’s experiential learning weekend on the history of slavery in Boston. That means your impact will be doubled by supporting two organizations\, rather than just one! Click here to read more in our attached letter and you can make a donation here! \nPKL is a 10-minute walk from Andrew or Broadway Stations on the Red Line. Ample street parking is available on Old Colony Avenue or there is a parking lot at 323 Dorchester Ave\, South Boston MA 02127\, a 5-minute walk from the venue. \nRSVP to come to the party through Evite here. SUMMARY:Boston Flourish 2023
DESCRIPTION:WHAT:  Gather with the dreamers and doers of our city to activate and partner towards a Boston where everyone flourishes. \nAt this gathering\, we will celebrate the many ways that God has been and is presently at work in the city and further this work by connecting together to strategically address issues facing Boston residents. \nThis year\, our key impact areas are human trafficking\, youth mental health\, and migrant care. Key organizations addressing these areas will present the current state of these realities\, the progress that is being made\, and how individuals can come alongside their efforts to see tangible change.  While it is only a one-day gathering\, it will generate working teams\, prototypes\, and collaborative potential for transforming our city\, a holistic movement that can be built on for years to come. \nWHY: Jeremiah 29:7 speaks of the need to seek the welfare and holistic flourishing of the city. Our city thrives when faith\, business\, and civic partners collaboratively address local issues rather than work on their own. Our goal is to see Boston Flourish – and we know that this is only possible if we work together. \nWHO: Business\, non-profit\, church\, and city leaders are all invited to take part in this gathering. This gathering is founded on Christian / holistic gospel values\, and we invite anyone who wants to join us in seeking the flourishing of the city. \nPlease join us and help to spread the word! \nFor more information\, visit www.bostonflourish.com. \nClick here to register for the conference \nClick here for sponsor letter & form

The Parcel 7 (Haymarket) Garage is a 10′ walk away from the park; costs $16 for the day or $3 for up to 3 hours of parking if validated by local business; If you park for longer than 3 hours in the Haymarket Garage\, the validation is void and regular rates apply. Invite your pastor\, colleagues and friends to rejoice in the Lord together in the heart of the city! Students can become Concert Ambassadors\, who spread the word at their campus\, help to create a welcoming atmosphere\, and strengthen their leadership skills. You can also download our Church Media Kit to share about the concert at your local church!\n\n\n\n \nA note on the location: \nThis worship gathering is taking place at Christopher Columbus Park in downtown Boston. UniteBoston’s team recognizes that this park was named after someone who led an expedition to the Americas and is responsible for the killing of native peoples. The park is also adjacent to Long Wharf\, where slave traders trafficked kidnapped Africans into Boston. We call individuals to grieve and repent from the sin of racism and its impacts\, which shaped the founding of our country and continue to endure in us as individuals\, in our churches\, institutions\, culture and social systems. As an initial step\, UniteBoston’s team is taking this year to better understand the ways in which white supremacy shows up in our leadership and organization\, and how we can contribute to unity in the body of Christ that upholds Biblical justice. Together\, may we work towards dismantling the ways that systemic racism shows up in Greater Boston and beyond\, so we can honor the image of God inherent in all people and contribute to holistic flourishing reflective of God’s kingdom.
