SUMMARY:Prayers for Liberty
DESCRIPTION:Dear Massachusetts Residents of All Faiths: \nWe are writing to you with an invitation to pray with your feet and march with us from Lexington to Boston this Labor Day – Monday\, September 1st\, 9:00-5:00 – to sound the alarm for American democracy and to demand a more just and humane democracy that honors our shared sacred values. \nOn Friday\, May 30th\, hundreds of us marched this same route from Lexington to Boston\, reversing Paul Revere’s ride for liberty 250 years ago to sound the alarm for democracy\, as the actions of our current presidential administration regularly violate our shared sacred values and our constitutional rights. We stopped in Lexington\, Arlington\, Cambridge\, and Boston to pray to God for the merciful and just rule of law from our federal administration\, as well as the protection and preservation of our sacred values and democratic principles. We also brought a letter signed by over 300 Massachusetts clergy\, addressed to members of our Congressional Delegation. \nTo join any portion of the march and prayers on September 1st\, please register here. \nIf you have questions or would like more information\, our leadership team will host question and response sessions for clergy and other religious leaders over zoom on Thursday\, August 14th\, from 6:00-6:45 p.m. and on Tuesday\, August 19th from 8:30-9:15 a.m. \nA printable flyer and handout to share with friends\, family\, and congregations is available here. \nJoin us on September 1st in our call to religious leaders around the country\, and all our fellow Americans: calling for our President to obey the law and to respect the decisions of our courts and the rights of all American residents. \nIn our faith traditions and our American tradition\, the President is not a dictator or tyrant. Instead\, “the Law is King\, and no person is above the law.” (Thomas Paine\, Common Sense) \nIn Faith\, Hope\, and Power\, \nThe Prayer for Freedom Organizing Team \n\nFrequently Asked Questions (FAQ) \nWhat does the schedule look like on Monday\, September 1st? \n9:00 a.m. Hancock Church – parking\, gathering\, greeting \n9:15 a.m. Opening prayer on Lexington Battle Green \n9:45 a.m. Walk from Lexington to Arlington (~5.3 miles) \n12:00 p.m. Prayer in Arlington Center – The lawn at First Parish Unitarian Universalist Arlington \n12:30  Walk to Cambridge Commons (~3.5 Miles) \n2:30 Prayer in Cambridge Center – Cambridge Commons \n3:00 Walk to Boston Commons – 3.1 to 3.2 miles \n5:00 Boston Prayer and Rally at the Common – Embrace Statue or Common Bandstand \n  \nWho can participate in the march? For what parts? \nPeople of all faiths are invited to participate in any segment. We will walk relatively quickly between stops\, in order to make it to each of our prayer gatherings on time. (See our schedule above.) For our friends who are disabled\, tired\, busy\, etc.\, we welcome participation at any one of the prayer stops in Lexington\, Arlington\, Cambridge\, or especially at our conclusion in Boston in lieu of marching. \n  \nCan I use my clothing\, signage\, and speech to protest other offenses at this event?  \nWhile we respect the conscience\, speech\, and liberty of all our clergy and other participants\, at this event we are focused on the preservation of our shared sacred values and democratic\, constitutional governance. In our prayers and signage\, we ask that participants not mention any other issues\, however important they are to one’s conscience or community. \n  \nWhat should I bring? What should I wear? \nClergy are encouraged to wear any clothing identifying their tradition and/or role. We will have bathroom stops in Arlington and Cambridge. We recommend all participants bring a refillable water bottle\, some snacks in your pocket\, sunscreen and hat\, and comfortable walking shoes! \nFor more information and to register\, go to Prayersforliberty.org

SUMMARY:Join the Pilot Cohort of the Beloved Community Lab
DESCRIPTION:Monthly on Tuesdays\, 11:00AM–2:00PM | Starts September 16 | $750 Stipend | Application Due August 15 \n – Do you long to be in a community of Boston-based leaders from a variety of Christian traditions and backgrounds? \n – How do we follow Jesus’ call to love our neighbors – and our enemies – without losing our convictions? \n – Do you want to explore how conflict can strengthen our connections to one another instead of fracturing us apart?  \n – Do you long for the Church to be known for what we are for\, rather than what we are against?  \n – Do you desire to be an ambassador of reconciliation (2 Cor 5:20) and want to grow in learning how to lead your community in the peacemaking\, reconciling Way of Jesus?   –  \nIf these questions stir up something inside you\, then the Beloved Community Lab might be for you! \n\nA New Kind of Leadership for our Divided Time \nDespite Jesus’ clear mandate for unity and welcoming all to the table\, churches remain some of the most divided institutions in our society. With over 45\,000 Christian denominations and countless divides over race\, gender\, theology\, and politics\, the Church’s fractured witness stands in stark contrast to Jesus’ prayer that we would be one (John 17). \nA team of diverse Christian leaders in Boston recognized this gap and came together to ask: \nWhat kind of discipleship is needed to form leaders who uphold God’s call for unity and oneness in today’s world? \nThrough prayer\, study\, and listening\, UniteBoston has been on a two-year journey of developing the Beloved Community Lab\, a unique opportunity for Boston-area Christian leaders to come together across lines of difference to learn and practice unity\, justice\, and reconciliation in their leadership contexts. \nWe call this a “lab” because it combines core theological concepts with real-world application through case studies\, interactive exercises\, and spiritual practices. This cohort is a space for spiritual formation—shaping leaders into peacemakers and reconcilers\, growing into the life and way of Jesus.  \nThe things that are keeping us part are deep-rooted: we need a vision of togetherness that doesn’t only lean into our differences but also brings about holistic gospel transformation. If we want to see a different kind of world and a more embodied Christian witness\, we must become different kinds of people. Our pilot Beloved Community Lab cohort is an experiment in Christian unity that seeks to change not just what we know\, but how we live. \n\nDetails  \nWHEN: Tuesdays from 11:00AM–2:00PM\nFORMAT: Monthly gatherings in-person (Greater Boston Area) or Zoom\nSTIPEND: $750 for full participation\nAPPLICATION DEADLINE: August 15\, 2025\nWHO SHOULD APPLY:\nChristian leaders in Greater Boston who value unity\, reconciliation\, and justice—and want to grow in living these out. We are seeking to convene a cohort community of stakeholders that come from a wide range of denominational\, theological\, racial/ethnic\, and generational backgrounds to shape the curriculum during its pilot stage. \nClick here to see the Beloved Community Lab Cohort PDF to learn more about the vision\, dates\, core competencies\, and more. We will be choosing 15 pastoral leaders from diverse backgrounds and we do have $750 stipends to honor leaders for their time and participation. \nWe believe there’s no better time than now for Christ followers to prioritize the ministry of reconciliation by engaging well across our deep differences – serving as peacemakers in our fractured world. Today’s algorithms and silos will seek to keep us fractured and divided\, but God calls us to a different way.  \nApply by August 15 to join the Pilot Cohort!  \nWe look forward to learning with you!

SUMMARY:National Day of Prayer - May 1\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a powerful day of prayer as believers come together across Boston to pray for our nation\, its leaders\, and every area of life. On Thursday\, May 1st\, we are offering two opportunities to join in prayer: \n\n\n9:00 AM – 11:00 AM at Congregación León de Judá (20 Reed St\, Boston\, MA 02118) \n\n\n12:00 PM – 2:00 PM at Church on the Hill (140 Bowdoin St\, Boston\, MA 02108)\, directly across from the State House. This unique location\, though not a Christian church\, has been generously opened for prayer by Michele Charles\, who regularly intercedes for our government here. \n\n\nThese prayer times are not about political agendas\, but about seeking God’s will for our government\, as Paul encourages us in 1 Timothy 2:1-2. We will pray for our leaders\, our police and first responders\, public schools\, families\, businesses\, and all areas of society. It is a time to come together\, giving thanks\, and asking for God’s guidance. \nWhy join us? There is great power in united prayer. On this day\, thousands—perhaps millions—of believers will be lifting up prayers for our nation. We encourage you to gather your church\, your community\, or even host your own prayer meeting to stand in agreement with believers around the country. \nMark your calendars\, invite others\, and come ready to pray for God’s will to be done.

SUMMARY:Good Friday Worship Service- 7 Last Words of Christ Jesus
DESCRIPTION:The seven last words of Jesus Christ\, recorded in the Gospels\, are significant in our Christian tradition. They provide a profound opportunity for reflection and understanding\, particularly during the Lenten season and on Good Friday. Many view these words as a fulfillment of messianic prophecies and a demonstration of Jesus’s mission to save us from our sins. \nWe invite you to the Good Friday Worship Service\, The Seven Last Words of Christ Jesus\, hosted by BMATenpoint on Friday April 18 from 12pm to 3pm at St John Missionary Baptist Church. The preaching promises to be both powerful and inspiring! \n\nAlso\, we invite you to take time to reflect on Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross and to celebrate His glorious triumph over sin and death with our digital Holy Week Devotional. \nTo access the devotional\, simply click here and scroll down (it can also be accessed here).  We hope these thoughtful writings\, created by the clergy leaders of BMA TenPoint\, will help you draw closer to Him during this meaningful Easter season.

SUMMARY:Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2025
DESCRIPTION:The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is an international initiative where Christians worldwide are reminded of Jesus’ prayer for his disciples that “they may be one so that the world may believe” (John 17:21). Locally\, UniteBoston coordinates evening collaborative gatherings of fellowship\, prayer and worship from January 18-25 annually. \nThis Year’s Theme: In 2025\, Christians mark the 1\,700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council at Nicaea\, where key doctrinal disputes about the Trinity and the nature of Christ were resolved\, resulting in the Nicene Creed—a foundational statement of Christian faith and unity. The Nicene Creed is the Christian “symbol” of agreed doctrine and also the statement of faith for UniteBoston. This commemoration invites Christians to celebrate what unites them through the Creed while reflecting on the divisions that still persist today. \n \n\n\n \n\n\nClick above to watch a reflection on the significance of the Nicene Creed from Dr. Elizabeth M. Woodard\, Catholic theologian\, musician\, author\, speaker\, spiritual director\, and ecumenist. She is a member of our Christian unity cohort and considers her vocation as bringing people to God and to each other. \n \n\n\n\n\n\nMark Your Calendars – You are invited to mark your calendars and plan to attend the evening gatherings! In this time of Epiphany\, we encourage you to receive the manifestation of Jesus Christ through those of different denominations\, ethnic backgrounds and cultures. Let’s make the most of these opportunities in order to truly be the family of God and serve as the body of Christ in the world. Let’s also pray with our feet – consider how our beliefs can come together in common action and witness. \n\n\n\nSpread the Word – We also appreciate help spreading the word to people in your congregation\, family\, friends\, and neighbors. A personal invitation goes a long way. \n\n\n\nCalling to mind our common commitment to ‘love thy neighbor\,’ may the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity\, January 18-25\, 2025 be full of moments of conversion of heart through our encounters\, so that “all may be one.” \n\n\n\nResources for Your Week of Prayer Experience from The Initiative:\nLitany for Christian Unity \nDaily Prayer Guide \nPDF Schedule for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity  \nIntroduction on the Theme from Greymoor Ecumenical & Interreligious Initiative \n\nSchedule for Gatherings in Boston & New England\nSaturday January 18 – Christian Unity Prayer Service \n11:00am to 1:00pm at Noroton Presbyterian Church\, 2011 Post Road\, Darien CT \nJoin pastoral leaders in Connecticut for liturgical prayer using the International Week of Prayer for Christian Unity worship service. \nSunday January 19 – Love Casts Out Fear: An Inauguration Eve Vigil \n5:00 to 7:00pm at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul\, 138 Tremont St. Downtown Boston\, MA 02111 or via the Cathedral’s YouTube Channel \nJoin Episcopal Bishop Julia E. SUMMARY:Fully Alive - Life in the Spirit Seminar
DESCRIPTION:Are you ready to experience a transformational journey that could change your life? Join us to the Fully Alive retreat\, a dynamic spiritual retreat hosted by the Shalom Catholic Community in Cambridge. \nWhat is Fully Alive? \nFully Alive is a Life in the Spirit Seminar designed to guide you into a deeper connection with the love of God—a love that forgives\, heals\, fills\, and transforms. This event offers a unique opportunity to explore the gifts of the Holy Spirit and experience a life enriched by divine love. \nEvent Highlights: \n\nPraise and Worship: Engage in uplifting moments of spiritual renewal.\nPrayer and Reflection: Receive personal prayer from dedicated missionaries.\nCommunity and Connection: Share experiences and build friendships during interactive sessions and social hangouts.\nInspirational Talks: Discover powerful insights on these topics listed below:\n\n\nHow to satisfy your heart’s desires:  The world\, and even our own past\, has given us enough reasons to believe that we’re unworthy of love: to be loved and to love. Discover how God is crazy in love with you and how you can live this truth after this weekend. \nThe ultimate choice: We all have our own story. It has shaped the way we think\, perceive\, act and love. Unknowingly\, we’re held captive by sorrows and wounds of the past that bring fear to accepting healing and change. This will be an opportunity for you to make the choice to allow Jesus to come in and restore light into your life\, giving meaning and purpose for your life.\nUnshakable joy: God knows how difficult it is for us to understand His immense love and care for us when we’re constantly at war with ourselves and the voices of the world. Learn about His promise to you and the finding of true joy and happiness after every fight.\nJust the beginning: A weekend together is just the beginning of a new journey\, a new time! Explore ways you can continuously grow in faith\, in your relationship with Jesus\, and how to live it in community after this retreat!\n\nEvent Details:  \n\nDates: November 22 – 24\, 2024 (Friday – Saturday)\nLocation: 400 Cardinal Medeiros Avenue\, Cambridge\, MA\nHosted by: Shalom Catholic Community – Boston Mission\nCost: $10 (does not include meals) Meals will be available for purchase.
