Charmayne Cook\, a song by Minister Isaiah Briggs and Jaronzie Harris\, and Storyteller Deacon Robin Nobles\, with Dzidzor Azalgo as the event host.\n\n\n\n\n*Note that only some of the storytellers will be present at the showcase itself. The rest of the stories are viewable on our Boston Sankofa Journey website here.*\n\nThrough spoken word\, art\, and storytelling\, this evening will bridge past and present—inviting us to listen deeply\, honor the wisdom of these elders\, and discern how we carry the work of truth\, healing\, and reconciliation forward in our city.\n\n\n\nDinner begins at 5:30 PM | Showcase at 6:30 PM\n\nWe invite you to sit at the feet of these elders as we look back together to shape a faithful future together—for Jesus\, toward shalom. \nRegistration is not required\, but helpful for our planning purposes. SUMMARY:Theology Lab: Deliver Us From Evil\, with Willie Jennings & Janette Ok
DESCRIPTION:Session 1 of Theology Lab’s Deliver Us From Evil series looks at the foundational questions: What is evil? How do we identify evil and name it? Together\, theologian Willie Jennings (Yale Divinity School) and biblical scholar Janette Ok (Fuller Seminary) help us explore these questions. Janette and Willie consider how evil and sin are conveyed in the Bible — and how that informs the way they see evil and suffering in the world around us and what faithful responses might look like. A practical question for this session involves what to do when you and another person don’t see eye to eye on what is (or isn’t) evil.

SUMMARY:Boston Mayoral Candidate Action
DESCRIPTION:In collaboration with the Boston Ministerial Alliance (BMA) TenPoint Coalition\, Inc.\, GBIO is hosting a Mayoral Candidates Action on Tuesday\, September 2nd. We will be joined by Mayor Michelle Wu as well as challengers Josh Kraft\, Robert Cappucci and Domingos DaRosa. \nWe will use this Action to uplift issues of particular interest to Black leaders and communities across GBIO. SUMMARY:The Bible Women's Project
DESCRIPTION:This play is not for everyone. It’s for those who have grown up in faith-based communities and wondered whether God ever saw them. It’s for those who have struggled with how the church presented their gendered role in society. It’s for those who are seeking a moment of pause and reflection amid the chaos of life. \nThis play is a reckoning of faith and silence using women’s true stories to fill the gap between both. It is an act of justice in the name of women who were misunderstood\, misinterpreted\, never talked about\, twisted for the sake of someone else’s narrative. We tell their stories — honestly\, rawly\, creatively\, humorously\, poignantly. It is an act of truth-telling in the name of women today who do not get heard or believed or whose own stories have been twisted. We bring the ancient and modern voices to life and show they are not that different from one another. It is an act of faith that asks our actors and audiences to trust that God is behind this work and because that’s true\, what is He asking us to do differently with our storytelling and listening?

SUMMARY:Tremont Temple Balcony Restoration Project - Volunteer Day
DESCRIPTION:Tremont Temple Baptist Church is a historically influential church in the heart of downtown Boston. With a seating capacity of 1752\, the main sanctuary is one of the largest Christian worship spaces in Boston.  Unfortunately\, the upper balcony is largely unused because nearly 800 seats are in poor condition and need to be reupholstered.  A team of us are coordinating a major restoration project that will employ formerly incarcerated individuals to do the bulk of the work. \nWe are sponsoring a volunteer day on July 19 to clean the iron frames of the seats. \nWe are also looking for financial sponsors to help fund the project. Every gift of $250 or above will be recognized with a name plate attached to a seat as was done in 1896!
