SUMMARY:Faith Formation Under Fascism
DESCRIPTION:Truth is one of the casualties of authoritarianism\, as fascist leaders rewrite the past\, redefine words\, disparage experts\, and wield alternative facts in order to hold power in the present and future. Jesus calls us to truth-telling and truth-living. We explore the political relationships among elites:  corporate\, political\, religious. We spotlight elite church leaders’ relationship with elite political leaders throughout U.S. history. We especially look at how Christian leaders have promoted hierarchy and innocence to defend structures of power. Then\, like Ephesians and Colossians\, we call for truth-living — starting with Jesus’ vision for husband and wife\, and his larger vision for men and women in the church. This is essential for accountability and healthier relationships in the body of Christ.

It will be streamed live through Facebook and at www.gcts.edu/live. \n\nABOUT THE SPEAKERS\nKaren Mason is a professor of counseling and psychology at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary\, where she has prepared students to be licensed mental health counselors since 2006. She is a native of Colorado (and loves to ski and hike). She learned French while growing up in France\, some German while living in Austria\, and some Haitian Creole while living in Haiti\, teaching at Hope Academy. She has also lived in Pakistan\, teaching at Murree Christian School. She completed an MA in Old Testament at Denver Seminary and an MA and PhD in counseling psychology at the University of Denver with a minor in industrial/organizational psychology. \nIn addition to being a licensed professional counselor and a licensed psychologist\, she has managed teams and several high-impact projects at the Mental Health Center of Denver. Before moving to Massachusetts\, she managed the Office of Suicide Prevention at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. She has worked in the mental health field since 1990 with clients across the age-span and in a variety of settings\, including Lahey Behavioral Health. She is currently in private practice. Her research is focused on the clergy’s and faith community’s role in suicide prevention. She is a member of the American Counseling Association and the American Psychological Association. \nScott M. Gibson taught at Gordon-Conwell for 27 years\, serving as the Haddon W. Robinson Professor of Preaching\, before moving to Baylor University’s Truett Theological Seminary\, where he held the David E. Garland Endowed Chair in Preaching and founded the PhD in Preaching program. After retiring from Truett in 2025\, he continues to lecture there and\, in 2026\, returned to Gordon-Conwell as the Haddon W. Robinson Chair of Preaching. He remains active in teaching\, lecturing\, and preaching in churches\, conferences\, and seminaries. \nAn ordained Baptist minister\, Dr. Gibson is co-founder and past president of the Evangelical Homiletics Society. His interests include contemporary issues in preaching\, discipleship\, pastoral ministry\, and the history of preaching and evangelicalism.

DESCRIPTION:Dialogue with cellist\, composer\, and artist-in-context Kendall Ramseur. \n\n\n\nKendall Ramseur\, an award-winning cellist\, composer\, vocalist\, and musical storyteller\, is the artist in context at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary for the 2026-2027 academic year. During this time\, he will be composing Songs from the Wilderness\, a new cello concerto inspired by the Exodus narrative that invites audiences to reflect on God’s presence and faithfulness in seasons of wilderness. \nAs part of the creative process of composing\, Kendall will spend time in dialogue with students\, faculty\, and community members about wilderness experiences\, identity\, and the role of creativity within the journey of faith. Moderated by Dr. Wes Vander Lugt\, director of the Leighton Ford Inititive in Theology\, the Arts\, and Gospel Witness at Gordon-Conwell\, this informal gathering provides a unique opportunity to participate in honest dialogue and to influence and learn about a major musical composition. \nAnyone is welcome to register for this free event\, which will take place on the first floor of the Retreat House. DESCRIPTION:WHAT WE PROPOSE HAPPENS NEXT BRJC outlines six immediate steps to move Boston’s reparations process forward \nBOSTON\, MA – As Boston’s reparations process enters an important new phase following the cancellation of a portion of its historical research\, the Boston Reparative Justice Coalition (BRJC)\, through the Reparations Now! Campaign for Boston\, is releasing a six-step community proposal focused on completing unfinished work\, strengthening descendant participation\, and providing residents with a clearer path from historical research to recommendations and implementation. \nOn September 2\, community activist and American Freedman Aja Jackson wrote in the Bay State Banner that Boston must stop studying reparations and start delivering them. Since then\, the urgency has increased: the Tufts-led portion of the historical research was cancelled\, the full $335\,000 contract amount was returned to the City\, and the separate Northeastern research covering 1940-2020 is complete and under review. \nWith several community proposals and timelines now circulating\, BRJC believes residents should have a clear understanding of what is already underway\, what remains incomplete\, and what additional steps could help move the existing work toward completion. \n“The City must document the facts\, and the community must document what those facts did to our families\,” said Jackson. “The goal is not to replace professional research with testimony. It is to make sure descendant evidence can help identify records\, add context\, reveal gaps\, and show the generational impact of documented public actions.” \nWHAT WE PROPOSE HAPPENS NEXT \n\nComplete the missing historical research. We are intentional about living out our Christian faith and supporting one another through prayer and friendship. We share household chores as well as weekly house dinners together. We try to create a house environment that prioritizes creating safe spaces for communication\, hospitality\, and shared fun. The things we do together are based on the skillsets and interests of each person\, and among many other things\, we’ve enjoyed exploring Franklin Park\, morning prayer times\, gardening\, creative arts nights\, lively discussion\, and board games. We seek to support each other as we grow in faith and being a light for the gospel in our neighborhood\, workplaces and beyond. \nHouse Details: The 3-story\, 5-bedroom house was recently remodeled. The bedrooms are sunny and large\, with hardwood floors throughout. There is a large living and dining room on the first floor\, and kitchen with new appliances. The house has a porch in the front\, with a large back deck and small yard in the back too. There is also a private parking area available in the back of the house. There is free laundry in the basement as well as limited additional storage space. There is also a guest room on the third floor that we use together for family and friends who are in town. Rent prices include utilities & Internet. \nNeighborhood Details: Our home is a 10′ walk to Franklin Park and Harambee Park\, a 5′ walk to the Talbot Ave commuter rail station\, and 1 mile to Shawmut on the red line. It is located on a residential street that is relatively quiet and safe\, though our neighborhood can be a bit noisy at night in the summer. There is a corner market one block away\, as well as grocery stores and local restaurants within walking distance. \nWe’re looking for the right person to join our community house! Here is our Fundraising Letter \nThis year’s keynote speaker is Rozella Haydée White\, a public theologian and “Love Big” coach. Dedicated to nurturing a love that is life-giving\, justice-seeking\, and restorative\, she has authored a book entitled Love Big: The Power of Revolutionary Relationships to Heal the World. \nRozella’s work deeply aligns with UniteBoston’s mission to heal divisions and strengthen the Church’s collective witness. Over the past year\, she has also played a vital role behind the scenes\, working directly with Rev. Kelly and Rev. Devlin as a coach for a capacity-building grant initiative.
