SUMMARY:We Protect Each Other: Immigrants in MA with “TPS” Fight Back Against Losing Status
DESCRIPTION:Did you know that over 1.1 million people in the United States (including more than 27\,000 in MA) are at risk of living their existing legal immigration status? The Trump Administration is doing everything they can to end “Temporary Protected Status” (TPS) for immigrants from 17 countries in which the conditions are unsafe for their return. Many of them have been in our communities for more than 15 or 20 years\, owning property\, starting small businesses\, and raising citizen children. Without a pathway to Permanent Residency\, TPS-holders from countries like Haiti\, Venezuela\, Nepal\, Honduras\, El Salvador\, and Afghanistan will be forced into an impossible choice: depart the U.S. by a given end date within the next year\, or lose their work permits and legal status and be at risk of detention and deportation at any time. \nCome hear from immigrant leaders in the MA TPS Committee\, who will share with us about their fight\, their wins in the courts so far\, and what they need from the greater faith community in MA to work alongside them for these protections. While in the long run a pathway to Legal Permanent Residency is needed for TPS-Holders\, right now we need to fight with them to be able to simply stay in their homes and prevent separation from citizen children. \nWe’ll also share about their newly released documentary and an opportunity to host showings in your own congregation with MA TPS Committee speakers available for post-viewing conversations. \nHosted by: The MA TPS Committee\, Episcopal City Mission\, UU Mass Action\, Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism\, UniteBoston\, and Merrimack Valley Project\, and Essex County Community Organization \nZoom registration link: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/fmlROfiVSga2aM62R0b-bw

SUMMARY:Book Group: Grace Can Lead Us Home
DESCRIPTION:Interested in deepening your understanding of housing justice? Join our book group to read Grace Can Lead Us Home: A Christian Call to End Homelessness by Kevin Nye. This study is a chance to move beyond feeling overwhelmed by the homelessness crisis and explore a faith-based approach to engaging with it. \nThe book\, written by minister and advocate Kevin Nye\, demystifies complex issues like affordable housing\, addiction\, and mental illness\, while re-envisioning our theological response. It offers a powerful message: Jesus\, from the margins\, has something to teach us all about grace that could change the landscape of homelessness and our response to it. \nWe’ll meet every other Tuesday 7:30 -9 via Zoom starting 9/23. SUMMARY:Prayers for Liberty
DESCRIPTION:Dear Massachusetts Residents of All Faiths: \nWe are writing to you with an invitation to pray with your feet and march with us from Lexington to Boston this Labor Day – Monday\, September 1st\, 9:00-5:00 – to sound the alarm for American democracy and to demand a more just and humane democracy that honors our shared sacred values. \nOn Friday\, May 30th\, hundreds of us marched this same route from Lexington to Boston\, reversing Paul Revere’s ride for liberty 250 years ago to sound the alarm for democracy\, as the actions of our current presidential administration regularly violate our shared sacred values and our constitutional rights. We stopped in Lexington\, Arlington\, Cambridge\, and Boston to pray to God for the merciful and just rule of law from our federal administration\, as well as the protection and preservation of our sacred values and democratic principles. We also brought a letter signed by over 300 Massachusetts clergy\, addressed to members of our Congressional Delegation. \nTo join any portion of the march and prayers on September 1st\, please register here. \nIf you have questions or would like more information\, our leadership team will host question and response sessions for clergy and other religious leaders over zoom on Thursday\, August 14th\, from 6:00-6:45 p.m. and on Tuesday\, August 19th from 8:30-9:15 a.m. \nA printable flyer and handout to share with friends\, family\, and congregations is available here. \nJoin us on September 1st in our call to religious leaders around the country\, and all our fellow Americans: calling for our President to obey the law and to respect the decisions of our courts and the rights of all American residents. \nIn our faith traditions and our American tradition\, the President is not a dictator or tyrant. Instead\, “the Law is King\, and no person is above the law.” (Thomas Paine\, Common Sense) \nIn Faith\, Hope\, and Power\, \nThe Prayer for Freedom Organizing Team \n\nFrequently Asked Questions (FAQ) \nWhat does the schedule look like on Monday\, September 1st? \n9:00 a.m. Hancock Church – parking\, gathering\, greeting \n9:15 a.m. Opening prayer on Lexington Battle Green \n9:45 a.m. Walk from Lexington to Arlington (~5.3 miles) \n12:00 p.m. Prayer in Arlington Center – The lawn at First Parish Unitarian Universalist Arlington \n12:30  Walk to Cambridge Commons (~3.5 Miles) \n2:30 Prayer in Cambridge Center – Cambridge Commons \n3:00 Walk to Boston Commons – 3.1 to 3.2 miles \n5:00 Boston Prayer and Rally at the Common – Embrace Statue or Common Bandstand \n  \nWho can participate in the march? For what parts? \nPeople of all faiths are invited to participate in any segment. We will walk relatively quickly between stops\, in order to make it to each of our prayer gatherings on time. (See our schedule above.) For our friends who are disabled\, tired\, busy\, etc.\, we welcome participation at any one of the prayer stops in Lexington\, Arlington\, Cambridge\, or especially at our conclusion in Boston in lieu of marching. \n  \nCan I use my clothing\, signage\, and speech to protest other offenses at this event?  \nWhile we respect the conscience\, speech\, and liberty of all our clergy and other participants\, at this event we are focused on the preservation of our shared sacred values and democratic\, constitutional governance. In our prayers and signage\, we ask that participants not mention any other issues\, however important they are to one’s conscience or community. \n  \nWhat should I bring? What should I wear? \nClergy are encouraged to wear any clothing identifying their tradition and/or role. We will have bathroom stops in Arlington and Cambridge. We recommend all participants bring a refillable water bottle\, some snacks in your pocket\, sunscreen and hat\, and comfortable walking shoes! \nFor more information and to register\, go to Prayersforliberty.org

SUMMARY:Be the Movement: Welcome the Stranger
DESCRIPTION:Turn your compassion into action.\nWelcome a Haitian family in New England \nImmigrants built Boston. And now shelters are scheduled to close starting June 30th. When that happens\, Haitian families already vulnerable will be pushed onto the street and into crisis. \nWelcomeNST has identified\, interviewed and vetted families at immediate risk with the Immigrant Family Services Institute in Mattapan. UniteBoston is partnering with them to stand up\, lock arms with your neighbors and form Neighborhood Support Teams (NST) that will welcome these families into your communities. NSTs help vulnerable families secure housing\, navigate schools\, find work\, and become part of your community. \nOur goal is to mobilize 50 Neighborhood Support Teams in Greater Boston to come alongside 50 Immigrant Families.  \nRev. Kelly’s church (Neighborhood Church of Boston) launched a Neighborhood Support Team last year to support a refugee family from the DRC and it has been an incredible experience. \nAs tensions escalate\, this movement enables you to put the superpower of your community to work\, welcoming someone from the outside to the inside. Your community was made for such a time as this. \nJoin for a zoom call next Tuesday August 5 from 6-7pm ET.  Register here. \n\nResources \n\nPartner Toolkit\nRegistration link to the “Welcome the Stranger\, New England!” Zoom on July 9 from 6-7pm\nInterest Form\n“Be the Movement. SUMMARY:The Bible Women's Project
DESCRIPTION:This play is not for everyone. It’s for those who have grown up in faith-based communities and wondered whether God ever saw them. It’s for those who have struggled with how the church presented their gendered role in society. It’s for those who are seeking a moment of pause and reflection amid the chaos of life. \nThis play is a reckoning of faith and silence using women’s true stories to fill the gap between both. It is an act of justice in the name of women who were misunderstood\, misinterpreted\, never talked about\, twisted for the sake of someone else’s narrative. We tell their stories — honestly\, rawly\, creatively\, humorously\, poignantly. It is an act of truth-telling in the name of women today who do not get heard or believed or whose own stories have been twisted. We bring the ancient and modern voices to life and show they are not that different from one another. It is an act of faith that asks our actors and audiences to trust that God is behind this work and because that’s true\, what is He asking us to do differently with our storytelling and listening?

SUMMARY:Tremont Temple Balcony Restoration Project - Volunteer Day
DESCRIPTION:Tremont Temple Baptist Church is a historically influential church in the heart of downtown Boston. With a seating capacity of 1752\, the main sanctuary is one of the largest Christian worship spaces in Boston.  Unfortunately\, the upper balcony is largely unused because nearly 800 seats are in poor condition and need to be reupholstered.  A team of us are coordinating a major restoration project that will employ formerly incarcerated individuals to do the bulk of the work. \nWe are sponsoring a volunteer day on July 19 to clean the iron frames of the seats. \nWe are also looking for financial sponsors to help fund the project. Every gift of $250 or above will be recognized with a name plate attached to a seat as was done in 1896!

SUMMARY:Join the Pilot Cohort of the Beloved Community Lab
DESCRIPTION:Monthly on Tuesdays\, 11:00AM–2:00PM | Starts September 16 | $750 Stipend | Application Due August 15 \n – Do you long to be in a community of Boston-based leaders from a variety of Christian traditions and backgrounds? \n – How do we follow Jesus’ call to love our neighbors – and our enemies – without losing our convictions? \n – Do you want to explore how conflict can strengthen our connections to one another instead of fracturing us apart?  \n – Do you long for the Church to be known for what we are for\, rather than what we are against?  \n – Do you desire to be an ambassador of reconciliation (2 Cor 5:20) and want to grow in learning how to lead your community in the peacemaking\, reconciling Way of Jesus?   –  \nIf these questions stir up something inside you\, then the Beloved Community Lab might be for you! \n\nA New Kind of Leadership for our Divided Time \nDespite Jesus’ clear mandate for unity and welcoming all to the table\, churches remain some of the most divided institutions in our society. With over 45\,000 Christian denominations and countless divides over race\, gender\, theology\, and politics\, the Church’s fractured witness stands in stark contrast to Jesus’ prayer that we would be one (John 17). \nA team of diverse Christian leaders in Boston recognized this gap and came together to ask: \nWhat kind of discipleship is needed to form leaders who uphold God’s call for unity and oneness in today’s world? \nThrough prayer\, study\, and listening\, UniteBoston has been on a two-year journey of developing the Beloved Community Lab\, a unique opportunity for Boston-area Christian leaders to come together across lines of difference to learn and practice unity\, justice\, and reconciliation in their leadership contexts. \nWe call this a “lab” because it combines core theological concepts with real-world application through case studies\, interactive exercises\, and spiritual practices. This cohort is a space for spiritual formation—shaping leaders into peacemakers and reconcilers\, growing into the life and way of Jesus.  \nThe things that are keeping us part are deep-rooted: we need a vision of togetherness that doesn’t only lean into our differences but also brings about holistic gospel transformation. If we want to see a different kind of world and a more embodied Christian witness\, we must become different kinds of people. Our pilot Beloved Community Lab cohort is an experiment in Christian unity that seeks to change not just what we know\, but how we live. \n\nDetails  \nWHEN: Tuesdays from 11:00AM–2:00PM\nFORMAT: Monthly gatherings in-person (Greater Boston Area) or Zoom\nSTIPEND: $750 for full participation\nAPPLICATION DEADLINE: August 15\, 2025\nWHO SHOULD APPLY:\nChristian leaders in Greater Boston who value unity\, reconciliation\, and justice—and want to grow in living these out. We are seeking to convene a cohort community of stakeholders that come from a wide range of denominational\, theological\, racial/ethnic\, and generational backgrounds to shape the curriculum during its pilot stage. \nClick here to see the Beloved Community Lab Cohort PDF to learn more about the vision\, dates\, core competencies\, and more. We will be choosing 15 pastoral leaders from diverse backgrounds and we do have $750 stipends to honor leaders for their time and participation. \nWe believe there’s no better time than now for Christ followers to prioritize the ministry of reconciliation by engaging well across our deep differences – serving as peacemakers in our fractured world. Today’s algorithms and silos will seek to keep us fractured and divided\, but God calls us to a different way.  \nApply by August 15 to join the Pilot Cohort!  \nWe look forward to learning with you!

SUMMARY:OneBoston Praise Concert
DESCRIPTION:The purpose of this event is to bring together all children of God around the New England area regardless of Culture\, race\, or ethnicity for a memorable and uplifting  the Name of the Lord as the LORD commanded. We believe that God wants to use this coming together of HIS children not only to bless every individual but also to touch the foundation of this great country (like how he shook the wall of Jericho when the Israelites were praising Him and circling the wall). We are excited about the positive impact OneBoston Praise will have on the community of God’s children.\n\nWe are contacting local church organizations that share similar beliefs and are all about coming together for the purpose of God’s work. We would like every Christian organization and Churches to be part of this mission and also support us with prayer\, financial assistance\, and Guidance in any way for the event. This could include helping with promotion\, or any other form of support that aligns with the church’s mission. We believe that by working together\, we can make OneBoston Praise a truly special occasion that resonates with everyone in our community.\n\nThank You

SUMMARY:National Day of Prayer - May 1\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a powerful day of prayer as believers come together across Boston to pray for our nation\, its leaders\, and every area of life. On Thursday\, May 1st\, we are offering two opportunities to join in prayer: \n\n\n9:00 AM – 11:00 AM at Congregación León de Judá (20 Reed St\, Boston\, MA 02118) \n\n\n12:00 PM – 2:00 PM at Church on the Hill (140 Bowdoin St\, Boston\, MA 02108)\, directly across from the State House. This unique location\, though not a Christian church\, has been generously opened for prayer by Michele Charles\, who regularly intercedes for our government here. \n\n\nThese prayer times are not about political agendas\, but about seeking God’s will for our government\, as Paul encourages us in 1 Timothy 2:1-2. We will pray for our leaders\, our police and first responders\, public schools\, families\, businesses\, and all areas of society. It is a time to come together\, giving thanks\, and asking for God’s guidance. \nWhy join us? There is great power in united prayer. On this day\, thousands—perhaps millions—of believers will be lifting up prayers for our nation. We encourage you to gather your church\, your community\, or even host your own prayer meeting to stand in agreement with believers around the country. \nMark your calendars\, invite others\, and come ready to pray for God’s will to be done.
