SUMMARY:Annual Black Scholars and Professionals Matter Conference
DESCRIPTION:7th Annual BSAP Conference \n“Self-Care in Mind\, Body\, Soul\, and Spirit” \nInterVarsity \n  \nAs the scripture says (to paraphrase): we are first to love God with all of our heart\, soul\, mind\, and strength; secondly\, we are to love our neighbors as ourselves.  To do this\, we should strive to be at our best (whatever our situation or circumstance).  We need to engage in “self-care” in mind\, body\, soul\, and spirit. \nCircumstances for many African Americans make the topic of self-care tenuous at best\, and non-existent for most scholars and professionals.  Self-care\, which is care provided “for you\, by you\,” occurs through daily practice of the scriptures\, prayer and serving yourself as well as others.  It’s about identifying your own needs and taking steps to meet them.  It is taking the time to do some of the activities that nurture you in addition to nurturing others. \nSelf-care means “Black Lives Matter” enough to seek and know of the goodness of God; to confront and have victory over the daily trauma of sin and evil that Black folks deal with whether that trauma takes the forms of physical\, spiritual\, mental\, or emotional challenges. \nThis conference will address effective practices (mental\, physical\, emotional and spiritual) to cope with trauma and to live godly resilient lives.  First\, we should seek the kingdom of righteousness and allow ourselves to be empowered through Jesus Christ\, our healer.  Then\, we can build a foundation of resistance and resiliency through the scriptures.  Additionally\, there are practical applications we can adopt which move us towards wellness.  The “Black Scholars and Professionals Matter” conference\, April 6-7\, 2018\, will focus on the kind of self-care that promotes wellness and health in body\, mind\, soul\, and spirit.  Join us for this exciting exploration!

SUMMARY:Theology on Tap: Transforming the Supernatural in the Reformation
DESCRIPTION:The Church of the Advent’s Theology on Tap \nreturns Tuesday\, April 17 with Prof. Carlos M. N. Eire\n \n\nHistorian and Memoirist Carlos M. N. Eire opens the 2018 season of Theology on Tap with reflections on: “Transforming the Supernatural in the Reformation” \nOne of the most significant changes brought about by the Protestant Reformation was a redefinition of the relation between the natural and supernatural realms\, which amounted to a redefinition of religion itself. How did this redefinition shape the various churches created in this era? How did it affect the Church of England? How does it affect us today?\n\nProf. Eire is the T. Lawrason Riggs Professor of History and Religious Studies at Yale University and the author of numerous books\, including most recently the magisterial Reformations: The Early Modern World\, which won the R. R. Hawkins Prize for Best Book of the Year from the American Publishers Association\, as well as the award for Best Book in the Humanities. He is also the author of the best-selling memoir Waiting for Snow in Havana: Confessions of a Cuban Boy\, which won the National Book Award for Non-Fiction.\n\n\nJoin us at 7 pm on April 17  at: \n\n\nCarrie Nation Cocktail Club\nThe Beacon Room\n11 Beacon Street\, near the State House\n\n\nAttendees wishing to eat dinner first are strongly encouraged to arrive early and please inform the club that you are part of the Church of the Advent party for the evening. \n  \n\n\n\n\nEvening Prayer will be said at the Church of the Advent\, 30 Brimmer Street\, at 5:30 pm. All are welcome to say the daily office together and then process from the parish church to Carrie Nation. \n\n\n\nPlease direct any questions to Father Jeff Hanson and follow us @adventboston

SUMMARY:Book Signing Event
DESCRIPTION:Dr. James Sideras\, author of the newly published book\, “101 Good Reasons to Believe\,” is holding a book signing event in the Greater Boston area. With guns blazing in this masterly work\, Dr. James confounds the anti-biblical viewpoint that is expounded as truth in the majority of present-day academic institutions and media sources. Backed with scientific evidence and historical facts\, his book provides a comprehensive case for Christianity that challenges us to believe in the unchanging God of the Bible. \nDr. James will be present at the event to personally sign each purchased book. Some free gifts will be available on the day on a first come first serve basis. All are welcome.

SUMMARY:Evangelical/Orthodox Regional Dialogue
DESCRIPTION:The Lausanne-Orthodox Initiative (LOI) is a mission-oriented dialogue between Orthodox and Evangelicals. It has held three global consultations in Albania and Finland (2013-15)\, a regional consultation in Ethiopia (2016)\, and a specialist consultation for theological educators in Cambridge\, England (2017) – They are convening a North American regional gathering in Boston on June 5-7 on discipleship and Christian formation. \nUniteBoston has been invited to lead the conference’s evening prayer on Thursday June 7th from 5:00 to 5:30pm. We would love to have a strong local presence from Evangelical and Orthodox pastors and leaders at this conference; please email her at kelly@uniteboston.com if you’d like to help lead this prayer time! For your participation\, UniteBoston can subsidize a portion of the overall registration fee if you’d like to join in the other conference sessions. \n\nThis consultation aims to explore how the Evangelical and Orthodox traditions can coooperate in forming disciples\, drawing upon the experience and teaching of each tradition. The command to make (and\, preceding it\, to be) disciples lies at the heart of Christ’s commission to his Church (Matthew 28)\, and thus at the heart of the mission of God in which we participate. Sessions will: \n-Lay down some key biblical\, theological\, and pastoral principles about why discipleship matters; \n-Introduce Orthodox and Evangelical approaches to forming disciples; \n-In an event open to the public\, apply biblical teaching about discipleship to the workplace; \n-Explore what can be learned about discipleship from those on the margins of church communities; \n-Reflect on the issues raised for discipling by cross-cultural mission contexts; \n-And consider how far our two traditions can work together in making disciples. \nSpeakers include Archbishop Angaelos (Coptic Orthodox Church)\, Dr. Joshua Bogunjoko (SIM-USA)\, Dr Gordon T. Smith (Ambrose University)\, and Fr. Luke Veronis (Holy Cross). \nThe consultation begins at 3 p.m. on Tuesday June 5\, and ends at 8.45 p.m. on Thursday June 7. Sessions\, as well as the midday and evening meals\, will be at the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology.  \nIf you consider yourself to be a mission leader\, church leader\, or theologian\, and come from the Oriental Orthodox\, Eastern Orthodox\, or Evangelical traditions\, please consider joining us. We acknowledge the differences that separate us\, but believe that we can learn from each other and help dispel misunderstandings about one another’s traditions. \nPlease send the registration form to Tim at lausanneorthodox@gmail.com by May 18 so the school can adequately prepare for the group.

SUMMARY:Bethel Music & John Bevere Concert
DESCRIPTION:Our vision for the Killing Kryptonite Tour is to create space for the Church to encounter a greater revelation of truth in a Spirit-filled and prophetic setting. With teaching from John Bevere and worship led by Bethel Music\, we believe these gatherings will give the Church a powerful invitation to experience lasting transformation. \nAs Bevere writes\, “Like Superman\, who can leap over any hurdle and defeat every foe\, followers of Christ have the supernatural ability to conquer the challenges we face. But the problem for both Superman and us is there’s a kryptonite that steals our strength. Of course\, both Superman and kryptonite are fictional. But spiritual kryptonite is not.” \nDuring these tour nights\, John Bevere will focus on what this “kryptonite” is\, why it’s compromising our communities\, and how to break free from its bondage. We desire that attendees will leave these nights empowered and realigned with the strength we have been designed to walk in as Christ-followers on the earth. \nThis concert will take place in Chevalier Theatre in Medford. SUMMARY:"Neighborly Faith" Interviews - Share your story!
DESCRIPTION:Chris Stackaruk and Kevin Singer are co-founders of the Neighborly Faith Initiative\, and are traveling to Boston to interview Catholics and Evangelicals involved in UniteBoston for an upcoming podcast series entitled: “Divided We Stand?: Evangelicals and Catholics Search for Common Ground.” \nGod calls us to love our neighbors of different beliefs and faiths\, and they are investigating how Evangelicals can become better neighbors to Catholics\, and vice versa. Cooperation and dialogue between Catholics and Evangelicals is uncommon. They are investigating why this is the case and showcasing inspirational exceptions. \nWe are planning to meet at a home in Brookline on the evening of Monday June 18th for the interviews. Please stop by anytime between 4 and 8pm; food will be provided! For those who would like to hang out\, there may also be outdoor worship in the adjacent park. If you are a Catholic or Evangelical who would like to share your story\, please email kelly@uniteboston.com. Thank you!
