SUMMARY:The 55th Season of Black Nativity
DESCRIPTION:Black Nativity welcomes ALL people\, far and wide\, into our circle of light. This is the Nativity story told through the lens of the African American experience\, but its message belongs to everyone who has ever needed hope\, ever sought home\, ever dreamed of a world where love wins. For 55 years\, we have been a gathering place where differences dissolve and humanity unites under the universal language of joy\, resilience\, and peace. \nBlack Nativity tells the story of the birth of the Christ Child from the point of view of Black Americans in the early twentieth century. Amid the hilly streets of Bethlehem\, a hotel with butlers and maids is set and filled with gospel music and gossipy chatter. In it the Holy Family find themselves surrounded by ordinary folk\nwho welcome their message and sing it with joy. Though based on New Testament gospels\, we offer the story as a testament to the joy of new births and to the hope that fills persons of “good will” from all traditions. Our message is one of transformation and spiritual uplift. \nInspired by Langston Hughes’ 1963 original production\, Boston’s Black Nativity retains the artistic direction of NCAAA Founder Elma Lewis; Director of Drama\, Vernon Blackman; Choreographer\, George Howard; and legendary Nigerian master percussionist\, Michael Babatunde Olatunji. The show’s music is set to the musical arrangements and adaptations of NCAAA Founding Music Director\, John Andrew Ross. \nOur 55th Anniversary Season features:\n75+ Voices Rising as One – Children and adults unite in glorious gospel harmonies that will move your spirit and stir your soul.\nThe Pulse of African Drums – Experience the dramatic pas de deux birth scene that happens live before your eyes\, propelled by the ancient rhythms that connect us all.\nA Living Legacy – Witness the continuation of artistic mastery passed down through generations\, from Elma Lewis to today’s visionary artists.\nFresh Energy\, Timeless Message – Gospel\, jazz\, and even hints of Hip-Hop breathe new life into this eternal story of hope.\n“Black Nativity is Boston’s Black community’s holiday card to the world” – a gift of transformation and spiritual uplift that has touched hundreds of thousands of lives across five and a half decades. \nDecember 5–21\, 2025\nThursdays: 7:30 pm\nFridays: 8:00 pm\nSaturdays: 2:30 & 7:30 pm\nSundays: 3:30 pm \n\nASL Interpreted Performances\nFriday\, December 5th — 8:00 PM\nSaturday\, December 13th — 2:30 PM\nSunday\, December 21st — 3:00 PM \n\nRobert J. SUMMARY:Ebenezer Scrooge: A Christmas Carol
DESCRIPTION:New Life Fine Arts’ spiritually uplifting musical adaptation of the 1843 Charles Dickens’ classic tells the story of the tight-fisted curmudgeon\, Ebenezer Scrooge\, and his personal transformation as he is supernaturally confronted with the haunting truth of his wounded past\, his spiritually impoverished present and his woeful future. \n“Ebenezer Scrooge: A Christmas Carol” is directed by Concord composer\, David MacAdam who wrote the adaptation while living in England\, where it was first produced in 1984. \nFor over 25 years\, thousands of NLFA patrons have been given an inspirational glimpse into the true meaning of Christmas and are encouraged to spread their holiday cheer throughout the year. \n“I have always thought of Christmas time\, when it has come round\n— apart from the veneration due to its sacred name and origin\,\nif anything belonging to it can be apart from that —\nas a good time;” \n– Fred\, Scrooge’s nephew in Charles Dickens\, “A Christmas Carol”

SUMMARY:The Angels That Christmas Book Launch
DESCRIPTION:The Christmas Story is retold by author Jacqueline Johnson in the book\, The Angels That Christmas. Join us for the book launch event at the Chatham Wayside Inn on Cape Cod and enjoy chocolate chip and macadamia nut cookies with hot chocolate\, shared with friends and family. Cozy-up while listening to the story in different languages from Papa Bear\, Mama Bear\, and more: plus\, live Christmas music and dancing. \nSneak Peek – Back Cover: The Holy Son of God was on His way to Earth\, and angelic beings were given charge of the magnificent birth. Full of stars  and lights and heavenly song\, it was a spectacular gift from the heavenly throng. \nTo Bethlehem His parents traveled\, across the distant miles\, to a stable that was hidden far away from human eyes. Not a cave\, a lowly manger\, or a humble shed; the room was filled with angels\, clouds\, and lights instead. When all was still and the world was asleep\, the angels delivered the baby in a place transformed with peace. Then carols were sung and more lights displayed\, for that first Holy Christmas was here to stay. Merry Christmas!

SUMMARY:Week of Prayer for Christian Unity
DESCRIPTION:The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is an international initiative where Christians worldwide are reminded of Jesus’ prayer for his disciples that “they may be one so that the world may believe” (John 17:21). Locally\, UniteBoston coordinates evening collaborative gatherings of fellowship\, prayer and worship from January 18-25 annually. \n\n\n\nThis Year’s Theme: Drawing from the resilience and liturgical richness of the Christians of Armenia—Oriental Orthodox\, Catholic\, and Evangelical—this year’s Week of Prayer for Christian Unity invites us to reflect on Ephesians 4:4: “There is one body and one Spirit\, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling.” As the first nation to officially embrace Christianity in 301 CE\, Armenia offers a profound witness to unity that has survived centuries of persecution and displacement. The materials for 2026 highlight that our shared identity is rooted in a ancient covenant\, symbolized by the safe arrival of Noah’s Ark on Mount Ararat and the promise of the rainbow. By focusing on our common vocation and the “one hope” of salvation\, we are challenged to move beyond historical divisions toward a conversion of heart\, practicing a unity that embraces diversity while remaining steadfast in the love and mission of Christ. \n\n\n\nMark Your Calendars – You are invited to mark your calendars and plan to attend the evening gatherings! In this time of Epiphany\, we encourage you to receive the manifestation of Jesus Christ through those of different denominations\, races and cultures. Let’s make the most of these opportunities in order to truly be the family of God and serve as the body of Christ in the world. Let’s also pray with our feet – consider how our beliefs can come together in common action and witness. \n\n\n\nSpread the Word – We also appreciate help spreading the word to people in your congregation\, family\, friends\, and neighbors. A personal invitation goes a long way. \n\n\n\nUB Board Devotionals – This year for the Week of Prayer\, the UniteBoston Board and Staff will be sharing video devotional and prayers\, which will be shared on our social media. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram! \n\n\n\nCalling to mind our common commitment to ‘love thy neighbor\,’ may the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity\, January 18-25\, 2025 be full of moments of conversion of heart through our encounters\, so that “all may be one.” \n\n\n\n\n\nResources for Your Week of Prayer Experience\n\n\n\nLitany for Christian Unity \n\n\n\nChristian Unity Daily Prayer Guide – Created by the Greymoor Institute or The Initiative \n\n\n\nIntroduction on the Theme from Greymoor Ecumenical & Interreligious Initiative \n\n\n\nAs you are able\, please also share this invitation with other churches and communities in your network so that more communities may gather to pray at this pivotal time in our country and city. \n\n\n\n\n\nSchedule for Gatherings in Boston & New England\n\n\n\n*All events are free and open to all.* \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThurs January 15  – Taizé Prayer with the Sisters of St. Joseph  \n\n\n\n7:00 to 7:45pm at Motherhouse Chapel of the Sisters of St. Joseph\, 637 Cambridge St\, Brighton\, MA 02135 \n\n\n\nTaizé prayer is a simple form of Christian prayer centered on scripture\, silence\, and song based on the daily prayer of the religious community in Taizé\, France. SUMMARY:Solving The World's Greatest Problems
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Friday\, May 8 for an 8:30-12:30 dive into Solving the World’s Greatest Problems.  We’re looking to gather 40-50 Christian leaders from across the Boston area to watch a 2 ½ hour videocast of a recent well-regarded event on this topic that included several known Christian leaders (for example\, Tim Tebow).   We’ll then dive into table discussions about what we can do together to actually solve some of the biggest problems that New England faces.  Ideally we’ll come out of this with a rough framework for an action plan with some next steps.  We’ll be meeting at Grace Chapel in Lexington.  Cost is $39\, lunch is included. \nFor more info and to register\, click here

SUMMARY:UniteBoston’s Annual Fundraising Celebration & Community Gathering
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to UniteBoston’s Fundraising Celebration and Community Gathering on Friday\, May 29 from 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm at the Bruce C. Bolling Building in Roxbury. This will be an evening of celebration with food\, joy\, and an opportunity to partner with us in our bridge-building work across Greater Boston. \nOur theme this year is “Illuminate.” In a time when division and uncertainty can feel heavy\, we believe Christ calls us to shine (Mt 5:16)—bringing light to hard places\, clarity to confusion\, and hope to weary hearts. At UniteBoston\, we are committed to equipping Christians to be peacemakers and bridge-builders—agents of unity\, reconciliation\, justice\, and repair. Illuminate reflects our prayer that the Church would not hide its light but embody it boldly and beautifully for the good of our city. \nThis year’s keynote speaker is Rev. Rozella Haydée White\, a public theologian\, ordained minister in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America\, and “Love Big” coach. Dedicated to nurturing a love that is life-giving\, justice-seeking\, and restorative\, she has authored a book entitled Love Big: The Power of Revolutionary Relationships to Transform the World. \nRozella’s work deeply aligns with UniteBoston’s mission to heal divisions and strengthen the Church’s collective witness. Over the past year\, she has also played a vital role behind the scenes\, working directly with Rev. Kelly and Rev. Devlin as a coach for a capacity-building grant initiative. We are thrilled to have her voice guide us faithfully illuminating the gospel and bearing witness to Christ’s reconciling work in our beloved city. \n \nThe evening will also include a conversation with Rev. Kelly and Rev. Devlin\, stories of impact from our UniteBoston community\, and creative expressions that reflect the heart of this year’s theme. \nJoin us to connect with friends old and new—and to discover how you can participate in God’s reconciling\, restoring\, peacebuilding work through UniteBoston. \nWe’re excited to offer FREE childcare during the event\, provided by safe and vetted volunteers. Stay tuned for a link to register your children so we can prepare well for them. Children do not need a ticket to the event\, but advance registration is required. \nWe can’t wait to gather\, celebrate\, and shine together.  REGISTER BELOW \n \nTicket Options:\n\nGeneral Admission: $50\nStudent Admission: $25\nVolunteers: Free\n\nSponsorship Opportunities:\n\nGold Sponsor – $2\,000\nSilver Sponsor – $1\,000\nBronze Sponsor – $500\nTable Sponsor (Organization) – $300\n\nOur Goal: Raising $40\,000\nYour generous contributions will directly support our efforts to fortify Christian unity in Boston through strategic planning\, staff and consultant support\, and partnerships with local ministries. \nThank you for partnering with us to God’s work towards reconciliation\, justice\, and peacemaking in our city.
